Hows Your 2021 Shortlist Looking?

More of a theme team pick than a game winner, but legit just came across a name I am so stunned to find was still alive that they need to be picked next year. And I thought Ulitzer pointing out the guy who did the Van der Valk theme was alive would be hard to top.

Tease.

Better not be one of mine, I've been sitting on some for months!

If Frank Carney hadn't died, he was going to be my nailed on Joker. Sat on that pick for 6 months!

I've got a few picks who've not been mentioned here, and who weren't picked for this year's list. All are guaranteed to receive a QO. After my success with Dave from Eggheads I've decided to keep quiet about other suitable picks.

One is someone who I believe to be in the advance stages of dementia, due to comments made on another message board a few years ago by someone who witnessed an incident involving this person. They've been absent from the media ever since, with any relevant interviews being with a close relative instead.

Another is someone who turned up on TV in a charity commercial this year looking absolutely dreadful. I've not seen the commercial air again - perhaps it's been taken down as they've not got long left.

A third is someone who was missing from a television documentary that aired this year, but which was filmed the year before. As someone significantly relevant to the subject, they really should have been there, and it's highly unlikely that the documentary maker forgot about them. Of course they may have been absent for other reasons, but it's somewhat suspicious.

I also have another source for information on possible picks. There's a thread on a certain website dedicated individuals in a particular field who were seriously ill. Unfortunately the main contributor to that thread has himself died, and although the thread is still going it's only updated very infrequently, with the last update about three months ago, but I still keep monitoring it in case anybody significant turns up.

That classic dead pooling moment when you first see news that makes them a lock but then upon further research they might not be as sound of a pick as they first seem.

Easily the best way for determining what are and aren't good picks is by seeing particularly appealing health news released by a QO source not get mentioned on the forums.

Trying to figure out if a potential pick is actually as ill as someone on Twitter claims or if that’s just a bit of exaggeration on their part.

Still as basic as it was before, I don’t enjoy researching so every name are well known on here to be terminally ill.

If there is one good thing to come out of 2020, it's me having the time to finally dive into the universe of RuPaul's drag race. I have been going through the seasons lately, and while 2021 is coming up too fast, I think I'll have a "Drag Race" theme team ready for 2022.

Generally speaking if a person is on trial or in jail they exaggerate their illness.  If it is a person still working, they tend to minimize it.

Which makes me wonder am I better off being caught at work googling whether porn stars are alive or dead or drag queens?

Not a criminal, it seems to be one person screaming that they’re ill though.

Team Gris Gris complete.
Team Made In Detroit I’ll give a few hours tops.

In not putting much effort into DDP so I’ll investigate general names and likely use 20 of them.  No off the wall solo names for SirC this year

I've some doubts over one of my picks - a terminally ill sportsperson.

They don't seem to be as big a name in their sport as they claim, and could be considered more as a Famous For Being Ill person who used to do some sport on the side, and therefore won't count. Furthermore there's been no updates on their various social media pages for some time, and they could have already died.

I feel like their notability went down with each successive sentence there!

Note for all - if you are entering a team from now on with some dodgy FFBI credentials make sure you fill your 3 spaces on your subs bench to avoid tears in early January.

I haven't even started yet. I was planning to skip deadpooling altogether, but am having second thoughts now. It's become such a tradition around this time of the year that it would feel weird not to submit a team. I see it as a chore that I have to do, however (un)successful it is. Guess I could take a few hours off and make a list, but the research will be more on the rudimentary side...

Oh, and since my theme team did so badly this year, I think I actually have enough names to play it a second year.

I wrote my list out at the start of the month and I have not looked at it again since, I'm not even sure that I will send it in yet, still there's plenty of time.

Your teams are always a welcome addtion to the DDP, but take care of yourself first and foremost.

Welcome in the same way that the PL top half always welcome relegation candidates like Norwich and Cardiff? ^_^

And thanks, likewise! I do my best to stay safe. Also, I feel that I'm finally getting towards the end of my grieving process (before anyone offer their sympathies, I AM referring to Olivia de Havilland's death, lol).

I'm now more or less done with my DDP team. Might do a few tweaks, but it'll probably be sent tonight.

Anyone else get end of year jitters with their teams? Last year it cost me Banali, Hagen and Last on my main team.

So... Robert Powell the TV charity one, I take it? Only one I can hazard a guess at...

Choice one never made the final cut in the end, although I may keep them for next year if things get worse. I found some info on them in late December which seems to indicate that they're not in a really bad way at the moment.

Choice two was indeed Robert Powell. I noticed him making a charity appeal during one commercial break, and he looked awful. I've not seen that commercial since, and they may have pulled it as broadcast regulations prevent commercials airing if anyone appearing in it has recently died - (or at least they used to).

Choice three is Dave Edmunds. He was missing from a BBC4 documentary on a recording studio that aired early last year, despite making a major contribution to the workings of that studio. I assumed something was wrong, so decided to add him.

I've already spotted someone suitable for next year - they've stopped doing voiceovers for something all of a sudden. Of course it may simply be that their contract expired at the end of last year, or they've been prevented from doing so due to lockdown/shielding issues. I've got 11 months to find out!

I think the appeal might have been time limited - I do agree by how awful he looked - he was on GMB in October through not looking as bad as that so he might be declining quickly.

I think I might know the voiceover one.
