Why no Indians ever in DeathList?

70s/80s Karnataka governor Johti Venkatachalam: Long dead? If she was alive she'd be 104 now.

Sometimes looking at the "history" tab of the Wikipedia page is handy. I've killed this woman off several times now, and idiot editors keep changing it back. As per this article from The Hindu she's deceased.

So where on Wikipedia is he still marked as alive then?

The guy doesn't seem to have an English Wiki, not sure if he has a page anywhere else,  so I guess nowhere else. Except the page for Arunachal Pradesh Governors on the German wiki, where they also have his birthdate wrong.

Narayan Dutta Ojha was the Governor of Madhya Pradesh in 1987. According to wikipedia he's living, but could he have died off-radar at some point? He'd have to be 96 now. Same for 1980 Odisha governor Sukanta Kishore Ray, who'd be 103 if still alive.

I'll have a proper hunt for evidence of death for these two tonight.

In the meantime, I've moved both to the possibly living category on Wiki. There's no evidence either are alive. It's just yet another case of new pages being created on Wiki by editors who don't really know what they're doing.

S.K. Ray's sister died in 2020, aged 95. It mentions her brother, but annoyingly doesn't state if he's alive. Given that it lists another sister as a survivor though, it kind of infers he's dead, but not strong enough for Wiki standards.

Sukanta Kishore Ray was actually the son of Bira Kishore Ray (1891–1985), who was the first Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Anyway, he died on 23 December 2002, aged 84. Full bio of him here.

Narayan Dutta Ojha died sometime between 1991 and 2019, as per this news article from April 2019.

Quote:
"I remember when I was appointed a judge of Allahabad High Court in 1991, I went to the residence of late Justice N.D. Ojha, who had retired as a Supreme Court judge, and had been my senior when I started law practice, to take his blessings."

I told you I'd kill them both off this evening... :shoot:

Still alive I would say. He published books in 2010 and 2017. In his 2010 book, he gives his own birth as "April 1935".

He was actually born in December 1928.

Alive. Photo of him from June 2018. Looks pretty good there.

Given his career in the IAS, as well as a prolific author, I doubt he will die off radar.

Updated for the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

A few other mentions:

B. C. Khanduri celebrated his 88th birthday ten days ago. He was called a "dying king" in a birthday post of someone who used to work for him so I assume he's not in great health.

Suresh Mehta had multiple surgeries this year according to a post on facebook from May.

Shürhozelie Liezietsü is still very active, will probably die while working

And here's an image of Pratibha Patil yesterday, looks frail but better than I thought. The guy in the other picture is her husband, former First Gentleman of India Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat, as far as I know the only living former Spouse of a President of India

Abbas Ansari was the moderate who wanted to end violence in J&K, once said "the Kashmir issue is not a border dispute, but a humanitarian problem. It cannot be solved through gun, but only through negotiations". A much better person than for example SAS Geelani.

Old Kerala communist, VS Achuthanandan ally/enemy/friend/comrade M. M. Lawrence doesn't look very great.

Chittajallu Krishnaveni, Giri Babu and the late Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry (1955-2021) received the Sakshi Excellence Award for Lifetime Achievement. Yes, the ceremony is called Sakshi Excellence Awards 2021 but was held two weeks ago.

She produced Mana Desam in 1949, a film that was the debut of actor N. T. Rama Rao (1923-1996), who later became the Andra Pradesh CM.

Punjab's political heavyweight and second-oldest living Indian CM Parkash Singh "hospitalised five times this year" Badal made an appearance on his 95th on Thursday.

Looks the same as usual in this image, but in the videos he either walks assisted by two or more people or uses a wheelchair. Seems to be doing fine for 95 though, and those health issues this year haven't been that serious (asthma, fever, "stomach & chest pain", covid, gastritis, mild heart problems etc.)
