There's 6 Derek Elsons that could be him in the GRO. Most likely one is a Derek Elson b. 1942 in Thanet, Kent (as the band were from Gravesend, Kent). In saying that, whilst researching the others I noticed they were all born in different parts of the country, so could mean nothing for all we know!

I've learned too much over the past few hours about 14th Century Baroque! I've come to loathe them and I haven't even been able to bring myself to listen to their chart "hit".

 

Anyhow, I've not been able to elicit much on the elusive Oliver Brookes. He's patently much older than his fellow band members. What I do have is the following:

He was a soloist in 1965 with the Birmingham Philharmonic and seems to have been playing with them at least up until the mid-1980s. He was certainly engaged with Birmingham University in the early 1980s and also visited the University of Western Australia at some time then.

 

The trail slightly goes cold after that - he's quoted in a book from 2014 to which I've lost the reference (ha!) but unfortunately although I can get the quote, I can't access the footnote!

 

Hopefully the Leicester then Birmingham gives you something to work on. My hunch is he's probably at least 10 years older than his fellow members given the pictures I've seen. Would not surprise me in the least if he's dead.
