31/01/1963 Hava Nagila #13
25/04/1963 Just Listen to My Heart #36

Think it's because the band's English Wikipedia article lacks a death date for him. Crazy that all 4 of them died in the space (heh) of just 3 years. They were not super ancient, and don't most bands have at least one person who outlives the others by some margin?

Ferry Cross the Mersey was among the first 1960s songs that I was exposed to because we had a 1960s hits CD. Some of the songs in it were kinda corny (Limbo Rock, Wild Surf) but a good compilation album all in all.

Updated for the death of Bell. 14 gone, 8 still alive.

Quite a shocking list considering it's a team of people who were professional athletes. I appreciate the heading-induced dementia has been a factor in several cases but only 2 out of 14 making it to 80 is a terrible stat.

1960s footballers and 'professional athletes' - not necessarily the same thing. Most of the England team back then probably couldn't wait til half time so they could have a quick fag.

Sickipedia but wtf?

Leicester city have lodged a formal complaint about Liverpool holding a minutes silence for local musician Gerry Marsden. They say that the precedent it sets, has implications for them, when you realise that Showaddywaddy had about 20 members.

Updated.

A bit of a strange one. I did ask myself if he was at risk of dying in relative obscurity/off radar only for us to hear of his demise weeks/months later but that's super quick reporting.

He was assaulted in the 1967 under very mysterious circumstances and suffered head injuries as a result. Remembered nothing of the incident but eventually returned to performing in '69 but by that point his famed had dwindled and he was soon forgotten about by the mainstream.

Edit: A pick for two teams in the DDP! Obit guaranteed.

The act never charted in the UK in the 1960s when they were big in the States, but instead were part of a wave of re-releases from that era in the 70s which subsequently did better commercially.

The charting act is gone now, but Ben Moore survives. He was the replacement "Bobby" from 1974 until the act was disbanded in the 1980s. He'll turn 80 this year.

Wonder how many locals even knew about his past.

Like I've shared earlier hereabouts, a Maidstonian used to mutter about his pop music past whilst supping in a town centre pub. Several people didn't believe a word - but he was a former Pretty Thing and nationally obitted when he went.

This appears to be a Wallingford in the USA, not the Wallingford in Oxfordshire (or Occupied North Berkshire, as some call it).
