Pierre ‘Father Abraham’ Kartner, of Smurf fame, 86. I guess he did a Dunn by playing older than he was, but I still thought he’d be long gone.

And yes, I was singing the Smurf song, in case you were wondering.

Hawkwind
Nik Turner 26 Aug 1940 – Living

Still a vibrant and going creative concern - seriously, I'm gutted at the cancellation of UK festivals this year because Hawkwind on the same bill as Pure Reason Revolution was looking to be one of the best days out I'd had in ages. Turner (long gone from the main band) and Brock (mainstay of the outfit from the start) are 80 and 79 this month and we're talking miracles on the level of that which allows all four of CSNY to breathe. I mean, it's not like this band or their audiences are strangers to all manner of chemical potions. The legend has it that Lemmy was fired for taking the wrong drugs. Factually incorrect but metaphorically precise!

Nik Turner of Hawkwind has died today.

Rab Noakes the Scottish singer-songwriter who performed with Lindisfarne and Stealers Wheel has died at 75

My dear and old friend Rab Noakes has died suddenly in hospital today. I am shocked. We had so much in common - The Everly Brothers, the Flying Burrito Brothers and an enduring love of songs, particularly traditional music. Sleep well, Rab. May you rest in peace. Bx #rabnoakes

Hawkwind's line-up ought to include Stacia (dance), born 26 Dec 1952 and still with us.

Do you have evidence that Stacia recorded onto either of the above two singles?

Yeah, now THIS is a tough call. There are the odd musicians (Bez on percussion for example) where you can argue their musical contributions were negligable next to their simply being visible and embodying the essence of an act. If anyone adorning a band could usefully be called a member it's Stacia, I'm willing to venture her presence in this film was a major reason their only significant hit made #3. Fuck knows, for anyone unfamiliar with space rock this onslaught on Top of the Pops was truly mindblowing stuff.

Half of the people in 60s bands didn’t play on their records, session bods replaced them. The Byrds on Mr Tambourine Man being a famous example, though I think even Michael Clarke was allowed to by 66/67.

It's a true nightmare really, almost every Joe Meek act was replaced on the recording, but hey we're concerned with band members, who often played the single live anyway.

Ulitzer has done promo members too.

So, we dream...

It's going to be tricky when Milli Vanilli die.

Half of Milli Vanilli is already long dead. Unless you mean the Real Milli Vanilli but they also have a faller.

Not that it matters, we are aware of the session musos and are reporting their deaths on the appropriate thread as well.

As this only goes up to the end of the 70s at present, point is moot for here.

A fair point

If we were being honest when Clem Cattini dies we'd have to list enough bands to take up a page of the thread, same thing with US acts and Carol Kane.
