Love it. I might eventually pinch this and add to UK Singles Chart thread (if I ever make it into the 2000s).

If only you had been brave enough to cover the whole of the top 75 ;)

Going to only do people who've died since their hit, rather than including posthumous hits. Will only list the date of death for the first reference, and am checking to see if the relevant musician played on the hit in question (ie, Crazy Town had a second band member who died but he left the group before "Butterfly" was recorded). Will add the songs in question to Spotify playlists as I go along.

Feel free to steal the data of course. Top 75 might be a little harder, but if this self-isolation rolls around into September/October perhaps we'll see it.

Daft Punk's One More Time can be added to the 2000 list as it features uncredited Romanthony who died on May 7th 2013.

Shouldn’t this be extracurricular — along with the dumbass thread Ulitzer posted about U.K. singles artists?  Shouldn’t it/they?

1) I asked members if they were interested in me doing that thread and quite a few responded yes

2) I’ve been putting a lot of original research into that thread as the info isn’t readily available online. The biggest contribution you make is cut and pasting stories about obscure ppl from your Google news feed.

Take a fucking seat.

Able to add our first COVID-19 death to the list. Nashom Wooden, vocalist for The Ones, who had a 2001 #7 hit with "Flawless", has died.

I would've thought that both Michael Jackson, and David Bowie would be on this list, and would've had top ten singles, this century. And possibly Prince, too.

I think Spade is working on this chronologically,  one year at a time.  And he has said he's not including posthumous hits.

Bowie did have a top ten hit when alive when Where Are We Now came out, mind you. But that's not till 2013.

Check 2001 for MJ. Prince didn't manage even a top 40 pre-death hit in the UK in the 2000s, despite the assistance of Zooey Deschanel.

I'm half keeping an eye on this to cross reference with the Scrabble deficit thread.   Any idea on an age for the sadly departed Mr Korzhov?

Also reminder that Roc Raida died of a spinal injury he got while training for a one-off MMA fight.

XXXtentacion (mentioned by The Engineer earlier in thread) must be unusual in that he qualifies for the Scrabble deficit with both his stage name and his real name Jahseh Onfroy.

Died when he was 20.

Apologies for going off topic. Great thread Spade.

Could Technically fit Naya Rivera here because as part of Glee Cast, they released albums from songs sung on the show up to the 6th season.

This is for top 10 singles, though.  Did they have any?
