Do they all still breathe then? Poor calibre this year if I may say so...

Aye, tottering in the face of a global pandemic the (less than) walking wounded surge into a record breaking 12th day

Or summat

So now it’s the longest we’ve ever waited for a winner in this pool.
Out of curiosity, what happens if nobody dies by a midsummers day? Is that basically no man’s land?

If the Maryport-run Deathrace 2010 is anything to go by, the winner will be "no one, f***in' no one", and the burden of shame shall hang over all who participated.

Indeed, we're in uncharted territory here - I'm minded to go the "f***in' no one" route tbh and my head will hang in shame with 20 others.

The whole point here is the deadpooling equivalent of making the right contact and avoiding premature ejaculation by the smallest margin. So we're looking for a full-on frenzied action fest. We're - like - looking for that.

It's June 13th btw!

Hmmm

I think we should post opinions on this thread. Having cogitated on it longer than any other MMMDP (for fairly obvious reasons), I'm even more minded to lump it with the 1992 Grand National and other non-events. Entrants here are self-identifying low-hanger specialists. Victory months later is akin to Steven Gerrard claiming a belated league title on the basis it was a certainty if he hadn't slipped etc. (Apologies for the sports references that'll be lost on some but I'm assuming the drift is clear).

Apart from owt else the ticking clock of approaching humiliation for those of us who think ourselves forecasters on a par with the mighty Dominic Cummings himself will give this moribund meeting some slight semblance of a spectacle, or summat.

I'm open to other views so long as they're posted on this thread.

iirc the rules stress the likelihood of a winner being before June 21st but only states the game is over when the first death happens, so in theory this could lumber along till next Summer with everyone looking foolish.

There does appear to be an increase in "random old guy" picks this year, for which I think we can blame covid wiping out all and any other health news off Google...

Aye, a good point msc - and I wrote the rules. So, I'd be a raving hypocrite to declare a no contest.

That said, I might reconsider the value of the "carefully chosen and appropriate prize" if it's awarded when the days are getting shorter again.

See now there's a marketing advantage for Joey: bonus points if you get an Advent Avalanche winner before theres a MMMDP winner!

Aye, that'll turn up the temperature on this thread to mildly tepid. Then again, I could market MMMDP 2021 on the back of beating the Advent Avalanche to a winner.

Aye, although if he survives another few weeks, Book might have jinxed Derek Draper into becoming a "Will he/wont he make it" 2021 DDP name. So the MMMDP loss might be the Drop 40's gain.

So, clearly I have to stick to my own rules - but I'm thinking of gifting an ironic prize if anyone wins after 21 June

And - mebbe - amending future rules so's it's a void race if we can't crack it by midsummer 2021

That seem reasonable to the massed crowds gathered to watch this spectacle?

Minutes away from an unprecedented THIRD week.

Bets in now on whether we'll have a winner by this time next week

Half the month gone (near as makes no odds), then - 21 prime picks still the right side of the last rites.

Hmmm

We no longer have the tumbleweed graphic to hand, right?

See the source image

The flesh coloured ball appears to be lying on the bottom cushion.

PS This photo is from earlier in the year.

Nice he has a copyright in the bottom left hand corner - a performer with a sense of his self-worth to the very end, then

MMMDP Form Guide #83

The London Planetarium, sorry Willie Thorne

Induced coma upon him and only breathing with mechanical help. If these intereventions don't turn round a desperate position Willie's toast and Toast takes the MMMDP.
