A lot happens over six months with names dropping off the perch and new ones coming to our attention.
gcreptile 10,979 Posted December 29, 2020 I kind of like the shortened runtime.... also remember, the more hits, the more bonuses come into play. It could become a mess, and very dependent on the initial deck.
YoungWillz 21,071 Posted December 29, 2020 Just by a general feeling rather than stats, the person who seems to get most hits in the 6 months after closing in December is....Sean. Not to say he would have won every year, depending on bonuses, but he'd likely be king of this pool if it ran for a year. It's the working out of bonuses that concerns me too - I'd probably also have to re-rack how the leaderboard was set out. But I'm all for democracy! Initially it really was for those disappointed in a Cup run to have something to engage with for a run-in to year end. That could change if more folk want a year pool though. I'll ask nearer the time but all views welcome.

There's a period of grace on this pool for late obits to come through, so still plenty of time. Of course, the staff will have left, the players will be on their way back to their country estates and I shall be in the manager's office poring over the books. Meantime, it's the end of the month. so I believe a little visit to the Card Roulette Table is in order! Come along everyone!

YoungWillz 21,071 Posted January 2, 2021 Even the BBC can't confirm a date of death for Michael McKevitt. Anyway, those who have an interest have until the 7th to find something to push him into 2020! Although it is looking like he's died after the bells have chimed in 2021 at present. Also still waiting for any late notifications or obits. I'm working by anglepoise lamp in a deserted casino!
YoungWillz 21,071 Posted January 8, 2021 Well, the final reckoning is now due. What a year! Actually a half year but it seemed like a year! Not clear cut by any stretch of the imagination, and a good competition for most. Indeed, it's been my best year pointswise, by luck rather than by design. But the lights have dimmed, the players have left for their 2021 competitions and it falls to me to do the final tally, which is as follows. If you entered last year, your position and points total is shown in brackets after your total for this year. Not strictly comparable, given the introduction of the monthly card roulette table, but hey...Even so, points are relatively down overall on last year. Anyway, the final table looks like this: 1st - Perhaps - 1408 Points 2nd - Sean - 1359 Points (=13th, 710) 3rd - Death Impends - 1244 Points (=5th, 1435) 4th - Joey Russ - 1241 Points (2nd, 1712) 5th - An Fear Beag - 1240 Points 6th - Grim Up North - 1086 Points (3rd, 1485) 7th - msc - 996 Points (=8th, 930) 8th - The Quim Reaper - 986 Points 9th - gcreptile - 958 Points (4th, 1443) 10th - YoungWillz - 872 Points (17th, 613) 11th - DeathByArsenic - 809 Points (21st, 406) =12th - Banana - 808 Points (7th, 1069) =12th - Captain Chorizo - 808 Points (1st, 2000) 14th - theoldlady - 803 Points (18th, 600) 15th - Clorox Bleachman - 678 Points (=5th, 1435) 16th - The Old Crem - 675 Points (10th, 835) 17th - Yorkshire Banker - 620 Points (16th, 674) 18th - Miracle Aligner - 560 Points 19th - Bibliogryphon - 516 Points (24th, 100) 20th - Great Uncle Bulgaria - 512 Points (22nd, 332) 21st - JoeMoneypenny - 498 Points 22nd - markb4 - 482 Points 23rd - Toast - 364 Points (20th, 436) 24th - CalebH - 180 Points 25th - Gooseberry Crumble - 158 Points (23rd, 305) 26th - Guy From Future - 48 Points So it is with some pride I pass the trophy for the 4th Deathlist Poker Tournament to a rookie first time player - PERHAPS. Congratulations to you and well done against the big beasts of the poker tables and indeed deadpooling in general. I have to note big commiserations to Sean, who had his lead snatched away at the death. (Well, it's a bloody dead pool!). And also to inform him that I have lowered the extra security doors, in case he marches upon our beloved casino, shouting "Stop The Steal!" The lead had been held at various points by Grim Up North, Joey Russ, Death Impends and An Fear Beag, but despite the jostling, their team members just couldn't come through. If you have improved on your placing and/or scores, well done, if not, that's the turn of the card, the swish of the Reaper's scythe, and hey, there is always next time. Our Hall of Fame now reads as follows: 2017 - Death Impends 2018 - Death Impends 2019 - Captain Chorizo 2020 - Perhaps. And now it falls to me to hand over the Hall of Shame prize, the hanging of the portrait in the gents. (Next year, it will be the toilet for the physically challenged, as I'm running out of cubicles - must get an extension built!). This is normally awarded to the player who has essentially cut their own throat, whether by the way picks have been made or non-obiting. I have decided that this meaningless award is to be shared this year. There is no getting away from the fact that if a player calls himself Guy From Future, you'd expect them to get at least one main team member dead and obiting, in fact you'd expect a lot of hits. The majority of points came from the monthly draw! Deservedly last, the management will expect better time travelling skills to be reflected in his score IN THE FUTURE. There is also no doubt that msc had three non-obiting hits in their main team. While the Casino appreciates the thrill and danger of the choices of deceased, you have to know you are going to get those obits in. And had they come in, msc would have had a flush, pairs, three of a kind and a full house on top of the standard hit score and would have won the entire game. So it's a joint portrait this year. Hall of Shame 2017 - Joey Russ 2018 - Joey Russ 2019 - Sir Creep 2020 - Guy From Future & msc. And we are done! Let's see if we open up later in 2021, and how long we are open for.....
Perhaps 1,425 Posted January 8, 2021 Astonished that I accidentally won this considering the fierce competition from the regular deadpoolers. As a newbie this has been one of the most enjoyable pools I've entered thus far and I can't wait to play this year to defend my fluke. Sorry Sean.

Yeah, and I've noticed the monthly draw was not that kind to you either. I'm probably not going to check that as it's totally random anyway, but somebody must have benefited more than most from that side of things. Might be an indication of when to put your picks in, maybe not. I think that experiment worked this year. At one stage it looked like it might decide the whole damn thing - but you were a clear winner. Who would have imagined a politician aged 104 would just up and die so close to the end? Bloody Labour!
