Indeed the fastest start, beating the inaugural year's kick off with Smith Hart on 2 July, last year's Christopher Brooker on 3 July and the disappointing 2018 Giuseppina Projetto on 6 July.

Well we are under way with an immediate hit as Georg Ratzinger, world renowned Choir Director and priest has died today. Apparently he has some sort of famous brother too...

A start that @maryportfuncity would kill for in the Deathrace and the MMMDP!

There isn't an "Everybody Else" on the leaderboard as the monthly draw will happen at the end of the month which should ensure we have a full complement of players on the board by then.

Yee Hah!

Oh tremendous. Another case of "didn't pick because I didn't think he was famous enough in his own right". *sigh*

Ha! All anyone had to do was ask.

The helpdesk at the Casino was seriously underused this year.....

I don't think I ever had such a high "has a wikipedia page" quota.

Only Tim Bilton on my team has none.

There just wasn't a lot around in the fringey department.

@YoungWillz: My pick Stanley Crouch is not a convict, but a critic.

A few names I got through on the "some bastard was allowed them last year so I expect to be allowed them" leeway, but Ratzinger I always assumed was notable enough. Helps to remember more religious members of the family moaning about the "Ratzinger brothers" well before one of them became Pope!

This was a case for me of not realising he was famous in his own right - I just thought he was the Pope's brother - whereas in actual fact he has his own wiki and imdb pages as a musician/conductor.

My whole team is shit though - lesson for future - do not do team off top of your head about an hour before the deadline after a bottle of red and a few beers - I looked at my team this morning and had to check it twice to confirm I really hadn't put Leon Spinks or Alex Zanardi in it but had found room for William Perry FFS (and he needs a lot of room! (whereas Alex Zanardi will fit in a small cardboard box)).

Yep similar here, did mine without wine but in about 5 minutes flat while sat by a machine at work. Very little thought went into it (to the point where YW pointed out I picked someone twice). Pope's bruv did cross my mind, but that's all he was to my knowledge so he didn't make it. I'm still trying to formulate some kind of useable rules for a Deadpool that would filter out anyone who isn't properly famous, that doesn't just involve one person's judgement. Haven't managed it yet.

Oh fucking hell, looking at most of the picks in the DDP is the precise reason why I don't partake in it.

Fixed.

Tim Bilton scraped though on his Great British Menu appearance. You are only properly famous if you've been on a TV cooking show....

Not that I'm greatly given to killing but...

If I was prepared to kill for such a start, I could always look at the list of selected talent and start the spree with some  low hangers who'd likely succumb to a vigorous shaking - :P

Some interesting choices , names and entrees this year.

The teams entered by @msc seemed to especially catch my eye with the intriguing and  interesting choice and mix  of names in their lists.

Thanks to Willz for posting the masterlist so I can remember what my team actually is...

Writing, taking as read the names we all know by now - which is pretty much all of them, Bullet Bob is a dull wrestler but should get a QO as he is in the WWE HoF and also because his son Brian was one of the most popular wrestlers of the 90s. Michael Cullen is the former Deputy PM of New Zealand, I believe his health problems have been mentioned on the forum before but he's a real "will they see the 2020 DDP name?" right now. Ditto Stuart Wheeler, who helped fund David Cameron's election and the Brexit campaign, but is now gravely ill with cancer. Meghwal I nabbed off one of Drols lists of Asian Politicians in Comas. Lone Dybkjaer (Danish MP plus wife of the former Prime Minister, sort of Danish Cherie Blair if she won a seat) has been told her treatment doesn't work so if she sees 2021 it'll be an impressive feat.

As for Everett McGill, who you might recall from Licence to Kill where he plays the FBI agent who double crosses Bond/Felix and works for the drug lord. Then gets eaten by a shark. Saw him show up in something or other recent and thought "Man, he looks like shit". So he's my annual Acting Punt in Willz's Poker Game, of which iirc I have a surprisingly strong success rate with.

11. msc

01. John Lewis (US Civil Rights) - K Hearts

02. Gavin Robertson (Aus Cricketer) - 9 Clubs

I remember Everett McGill but only as Ed Hurley in Twin Peaks!Husband of eccentric deluded  one eye patch user Nadine Hurley!

I expect many  of the names of Twin Peaks cast members to start appearing in more lists as time goes on.Piper Laurie, Ray Wise , Grace Zabriske, Michael Ontkean etc.

We have already lost Jack Nance, Peggy Lipton and Warren Frost. Others too I'm sure.

So I nip away for a few hours relaxation and it seems like Weekes.

Yes, the Poker Tourney scores it's first ever first day double with the death of a cricketing legend, Everton Weekes.

So we not only have Yorkshire Banker in the lead now playing his Red Joker already, at the other end we have our first Sub faller -  for Sean.

Yorkshire Banker picks up the 50 Point bonus for a Joker hit.

Sean draws Q Spades for 12 Points.

Bibliogryphon hits an A and gets an additional 5 Points.

Other scorer was Joe Moneypenny who joins the leaderboard.

It's maybe also worth pointing out at this stage that Bibliogryphon now has more points this year than he did at the end of last year's competition! ;)

Could this be his year? :o

I'm kind of hoping it's my year!:D^_^

Don't underestimate me because I've come nearly last in every year on nearly every pool I have entered!

The enema seems like a game changer......

Remember when there were nine planets? Then Doctor Who thought it would smart to call a story The Tenth Planet? Now there's a whole generation of kids giggling, going well, where's the story about the missing ninth planet?! GAWD!

Anyway, I digress. Earl Cameron has popped his clogs. Promoted into theoldlady's main team to replace the late Tim Brooks, she hits an A and gains 5 additional points.

He remained on current leader Yorkshire Banker's subs bench. He draws Q Diamonds for 12 Points added.
