US Congressional 2020 Change Predictions

Recommended Posts

I wanted to try a game out for the rest of 2020. Basically inspired by the By Election thing, though there some differences.
So, it’s a game of basically guessing who will get removed from congress before the end of the 116th Congress by any means. Whether it’s by dying, retirement, or being voted out of office, it is the job of this game to guess who will no longer be a congressperson by January 3rd 2021.

Here is how the scoring will work:

If a congressperson announces their retirement from Congress = 1 point. HOWEVER, I will not be allowing any congressperson who already announced their retirement to score, so if you pick someone who’s already known to be retiring, you might want to pick again. Only points they’ll be eligible for is if they die in office.
If someone gets defeated in the general election = 2 points.

If someone gets defeated in the primary = 3 points. Again, I am not counting those who already got primaried, so anyone picking Steve King or Dan Lipinski will have to pick someone else.
If a congressperson resigns for whatever reason before the election comes through = 4 points. Although if they were already defeated and then resigns from office, that doesn’t count as double points in this case.
If someone dies in office = 5 points.

The game will start now since there are primaries along the way this month, but you have to submit by June 30th by midnight GMT time. You can either post here or DM me to enter.

I have a team in, although I haven't a clue who nearly any of the names are. Just in case Lindsey Graham gets ousted in his primary in a few days.

Btw, if anyone wants to know a list of people running for reelection, you can always look here and here. Although if you want some super old senators just look at my list above, hehe

So the Virginia GOP apparently had a convention today to see who goes on the ballot for the Republicans. Particularly keep an eye out for Denver Riggleman to see if he ends up winning or losing, as it isn’t entirely clear yet...

As it turns out, Riggleman was ousted. Now it was a convention that was why Riggleman lost rather than a primary, but I think a convention basically is the same as a primary for scoring purposes. And I’m the only one who scores from the two teams who entered.
If you want to enter this game before another primary, the next date to look out for is June 23rd. The official date that closes for any entries is June 30th. And yeah, next time entries will open up much earlier than this time...

Joey Russ - 3

Ah, how fun is it that somebody wants to divert attention to something else rather than this game.

Doesn’t look like that’ll happen. She’s beating her opponent by a really wide margin.

So far things are looking good for Jamaal Bowman defeating Eliot Engel. 2 of the 3 teams who entered so far picked Engel so if things stay the way they are that’s three points each. One race that might’ve gone completely under the radar is Carolyn Maloney’s race. So far she’s actually losing to Suraj Patel, and if things hold that’d be two incumbents being defeated.
You still have about a week to send in entries for this but at this point I won’t be accepting any teams with Maloney or Engel unless they resign from the house...

This is good enough for me to count Eliot Engel points.

And good riddance to him. He’s absolutely terrible in foreign policy (he was even against Obama’s Iran deal to give you a sense of how awful he is). So that’s 3 points for me and mr whit then. There’s still about a week to enter in this pool if you want to:

mr whit - 3
