You have a point Toastie. With some people it's "If I've never heard of him, he's not a celebrity". That's why objective criteria like getting an obit in a significant news source is a good rule for pools like the DDP. Of course, then we can argue over what's a significant news source.........

Deadpooling has made me much more cosmopolitan. I know about old and sick people all over the world that I would never have heard of otherwise. The old host at Alt Obit's used to say to me "You only want him/her because he's/she's got pancreatic cancer" and I used to say "Yes, isn't that the point - picking people who are going to die? Should I be picking all young healthy people?"

I only became aware of her when she became ill but she was a significant pol in the UK. The alt obit DP is a bit quirky as to who they allow or disallow. I've been surprised at some who were disallowed (I have a few every year) as well as surprised at who has been let in. It's a case of "your pool-your rules" so I don't squawk (much).

It's hard to think of a celebrity who has fallen more precipitously in the public's regard. He went from a much loved father figure to the depths of a sickening rapist. It's even worse that he was a man who was rich and powerful; he didn't have to rape women to have sex. How revolting to think that he actually enjoyed drugging women and having sex with an unconscious victim. Ick.
