Although, should they be reinstated and go on to win, wouldn't this be the most against-all-odds victory? I would look for bookmakers still accepting bets on Romania if I were you...

MHDP
in Dead Pools
That makes sense, because otherwise people with only 1 obit would get 0 points. Adjusted, but still unofficial, results:
- Switch: 62*2+53 = 177
- Rad's Rad R'list: 62+53+23+33 = 171
- Thomas Jefferson Survives: 45+62 = 107
- Cancerous Hatred: 62+23+20 = 105
- Yankee Go Home: 62
- "O" (that is, the letter O): 62
- The Unknown Man: 62
- RoverAndOut: 53
- msc: 21
- Anker Jørgensen 45 points (unique)
- Rob Ford 62 points
- Johan Cruyff 53 points
- Mother Angelica 23 points
- Kris Travis 33 points (unique)
- Bill Rosendahl 20 points (unique)
- Rachel Johnson 21 points (unique)
- Patricio Aylwin TBD – obits still incoming

MHDP
in Dead Pools
Now that a month has passed since the beginning of the competition, I thought it would be a good time to see where things stand. Note that this is an unofficial results table, since MH might have different thoughts on which obits count and which don't. I relied on the honesty of my fellow participants.
These are the obit counts I used in calculations, as well as the multipliers and points for a non-joker death (unique bonus added where applicable):
- Anker Jørgensen 25 (Arabic, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greenlandic, Hindi, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish) – multiplier 4.6439, 37 points (unique)
- Rob Ford 37 (Albanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian , Lithuanian, Macedonian , Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese) – multiplier 5.2095, 52 points
- Johan Cruyff 50 (Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Basque, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Western Frisian) – multiplier 5.6439, 45 points
- Mother Angelica 12 (Croatian, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish) – multiplier 3.5850, 18 points
- Kris Travis 3 (English, French, Spanish) – multiplier 1.5850, 21 points (unique)
- Bill Rosendahl 2 (English, Spanish) – multiplier 1, 10 points (unique)
- Rachel Johnson 3 (Chinese, English, Scots Gaelic) – multiplier 1.5850, 13 points (unique)
- Patricio Aylwin TBD – obits still incoming
So far, the only joker that has passed away is Rob Ford for my team. There have been four unique picks: Anker Jørgensen for Death Impends, Kris Travis for RadGuy, Bill Rosendahl for JiroemonKimura and Rachel Johnson for msc. Bibliogryphon will also get a unique bonus for Aylwin. And now, the results table:- Switch: 52*2+45 = 149
- Rad's Rad R'list: 52+45+18+21 = 136
- Thomas Jefferson Survives: 37+52 = 89
- Cancerous Hatred: 52+18+10 = 80
- Yankee Go Home: 52
- "O" (that is, the letter O): 52
- The Unknown Man: 52
- RoverAndOut: 45
- msc: 13

Posted this in the Olympic deaths thread but guess it makes sense here too. France reports a 'London 2012 curse' following the deaths of 18 athletes who took part in the games in the subsequent 4 years. Full list of those cursed included in the article, complete with helpful details of their cause of death:
Within 4 years, 18 people out of 10 768, or 0.167%, have died. I don't see a curse here and I'm sure the numbers were similar for all previous Olympics. France is just more sensitive towards Olympic athlete deaths since the helicopter crash last year.

As for me, Diski is the only (near-)certainty. Then there are a few cancer patients who might hold on (Bain, Chong, Kilmer, Wetton), a few ALS sufferers who are also likely to see 2017 (Frates, Ricksen, vd Westhuizen) and Gino Odjick, who seems to be recovering from amyloidosis and is probably a wasted pick. Then I have three wildcards in Gascoigne (if he drinks himself to death), McGuinness (the Isle of Man TT is pretty dangerous) and Vilks (surely there are still terrorists who want to see him dead). I probably won't reach 100, not that it's a bad thing.

Peking is getting a Winter Olympics?
Yeah, the IOC didn't want to be out-done by Quatar landing the World Cup
To be fair, by the day of the voting Almaty was the only alternative. And if Russia could hold its winter games in a summer resort, what's wrong with Beijing?

Maybe The Independent closed its print section because of Mr Perrone's death?

Cesare Maldini, Italian football manager and player, father of Paolo Maldini, dead at 84. Played for Italy in the 1962 World Cup and managed its national team in 1998.

Aye, after coming one point short in my debut year that milestone has been reached at long last.
Also - surely DDT has to have shattered the most points in a month record? By my reckoning, Plowright, Crowe, Feek joker, Davies, Ford, and Travis add up to 64 points.
Note to self: I'm likely in second place in the same ranking. Crowe (9) + Feek (10) + Ford (10) + Cruyff (8) + Travis joker (24) = 61 points
Also, I think DDT got 66 points (Plowright 9 + Crowe 9 + Feek 20 + Davies 6 + Ford 10 + Travis 12).
Kris Travis was 32 so only worth 10 points.
Well, I say "only"...
Ah, for some reason when I made my team I wrote down he was worth 12. Probably would have chosen Feek as joker if I had known it was actually 10.

What a huge year this is for deadpooling.
Also, with Kris Travis gone I'm no longer the highest placed player whose joker is still alive.

A lot of the obits we have so far are from Catholic news websites so who knows if they're valid.

Magere Hein, the time to collect obits for Jorgensen has expired, and it will expire in a few hours for Ford. Should we expect the first scoreboard soon?

Ukrainian? http://glavcom.ua/news/369892.html Google translate says Russian, but I know the two dialects are very similar, and the site is under .ua which is Ukraine's domain...
That is Russian. I can't find Ukrainian news about his death.

By my count, I now have 56 points. If Diski, Marks and Travis die (I reckon the odds of dying are above 50% for each of them), I should reach 95 points.

So does Jorgensen count? Is it necessary to provide obits for him?
