Longest British marriages, appeal for information.
Master Obit replied to Master Obit's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
They weren't quite the longest - that goes to William and Eluned Jones, at 83 years and 359 days. I've contributed quite significantly to this page https://oldestinbritain.nfshost.com/couples.php but unfortunately very few people get in touch! -

This is very interesting - I hadn't seen this before! -

Absolutely anybody, so if they meet the criteria then I'd be very interested to know. We don't get many cases from Wales either, I've only got one Welsh case amongst my living 75+ list. -
Deathlist Dreaming
Master Obit replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I had this lovely dream last night where they locked the Jimmy Carter thread on here. I was disappointed to wake up and realise it wasn't actually true. -
To be honest, you did more of the heavy lifting here by supplying the possible names!

A Jennifer Enfys Davison died in Q3/2023. Enfys is distinctly Welsh, so I'm going to say it's a fair punt especially when you consider that a Jennifer E Hill married a Geoffrey Davison in Q1/1970.

Announcing "deathlist.net Members" Own Death
Master Obit replied to Saint Peter's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
What age would she be if she was still alive? Does anyone know how old she was? -
I shouldn't hold your hopes out of getting an article, but maybe 110 will be viewed as a major milestone and article-worthy even though he hasn't really been reported on in the media up to now.

The one from 106 is from a facebook post by a care home, and it was matched to Norman Spencer based on the details. I know this because I was the one who found it. There's also supposedly an interview/video on twitter from when he was 107.

As far as I know, nobody actually has any contact (certainly nobody on OldestinBritain does, because I'm one of that group). All the posts about him on fora are simply operating under the assumption that he hasn't died. It's entirely possible that he'll die off the radar and only be discovered in the index.

Norman Spencer, mentioned here a few times, implicitly reached 2024, since he isn't on Q4 of the 2023 index.

I should have specified English/Welsh cases - I'm not really so able to track abroad, but I think you for directing me to her profile because it contained a very interesting thread about gay men and their classification. -

I'm going to declare him legally dead on the basis that there's nothing I can really go off for identity and I find it hard to believe anyone here actually misses his very low-quality content. -

You might need to narrow it down a bit more than that! -

Just to be clear on this, this isn't a direct confirmation from anyone who knew him. I pieced this together based on known details about his life, and used GRO/Ancestry to check if anyone matched. Someone died on 16th April 2021 that matches every known detail about Cat O'Falk, and there are enough details present that I'm 99.9% confident. I won't reveal the name here as he himself seemed to prefer anonymity, but if anyone here closely knew him and does have a name for him, I'm happy to PM the name I have for confirmation. I'm happy to assist if anyone has any other members they're concerned may have died, on the basis that I think it's better to have transparency than eternal limbo. Cat O'Falk is a sad reminder that cancer does not discriminate, and makes no exceptions for the nice people in the world. -
Accurate representation of what it feels like to look through the King Charles and Jimmy Carter threads. 0:22 onwards is what I think whenever I see that the Jimmy Carter thread has had a new reply.

My sister is a PhD level cancer scientist and yeah, pretty much this. How functional you are is (from my understanding of the technical stuff she conveys) dependent on the type of cancer you have. Certain cancers such as pancreatic cancer are especially difficult because you can be very advanced and not even know you have it, and the treatments that are available to a patient depend on exactly what their cancer is and how likely they would be to withstand the intensity. Responding to treatment doesn't mean that his prognosis is good, it just means that the type of therapy being used is not causing any detrimental effects, and is keeping him comfortable. It absolutely doesn't mean he's necessarily getting better, or even improving.

King Charles coins aren't that small in number, it's just that all these clickbait news articles have caused them (and any other commemoratves) to be hoarded away by the people who have the most exposure (bank workers, post office workers). I really don't understand why anyone wants to hoard them that badly with the belief that they'll be worth a fortune in the future, when they're crappy base metal coins and the pool of coin collectors is nowhere near large enough that the entire lot can't reasonably acquire one at face value. This never used to be a problem before the media got obsessed with "collectible coins in your change". I put together an entire set of commemoratives, including a few complete sets of the Olympic series and the Kew Gardens, entirely from pocket change and a couple of eagle-eyed people helping me - the only non-conventional source I had was a local post office, when I got down to the last couple of Olympics and was getting a bit desperate. The point is, they were out there and I'm confident I could still have completed the set even without their assistance. It's like all this invented hype about AA series banknotes, or AK47 code banknotes - the serious collectors amongst us recognise they're not special but the ignorant public don't because The Sun has told them that they're worth a fortune.

DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
Master Obit replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I'm not suggesting anyone's anonymity should be waived. It's not a breach of anonymity if somebody who already knows his identity checks on the GRO index (it's fairly easy to explain how to do this if they don't know) and gives a yes/no. It's entirely possible nobody knows his identity, but I'd wager that somebody does and I think it's much better to simply put this discussion to bed than it is to idly speculate. -

Surely one of the site admins (or someone in the know) could check his name on the death index? It's morbid but we've done similar for members on a different site I'm on. -

I'm not really sure how you've not muted him yet. I did so ages ago. If a majority muted him, there'd be a sort of herd immunity against seeing his content either directly or in quotes. He's been told time and time again just how much of an idiot he is, and to get out more and gain perspective, but ignores it every single time. The only reasonable conclusion at this point is that he is a troll. -

@Octopus of Odstock Reg Tapley's death was registered in October. Final residence of Cheshire East. -
When do you last know these people to be alive? There's a big difference between checking just 2023 and checking several years so I need some indication.

@Ulitzer95 Alfred Hoffman died 18/05/2023 @Gisooo Vivienne Martin, or Vivienne Ann Martin, died 22/01/2023. Bizarrely, she is listed as born on 28/12/1930, not 28/12/1936. Possible she understated her age deliberately. They've done some maintenance so I can now access things registered in October, so if either of you has any names you want checking then tell me who they are and I'll get to it after tennis later. I've had a nice sports massage from a young muscular footballer today, so I'm feeling extremely relaxed and unburdened.
