They circulated a lot longer so got worn down. Also the metals used for them were more conducive to wearing (I think, not an expert though). I have a set of pre-decimal pennies that I've worked on putting together - it's really fascinating to look at a coin from the 1860s and think of what it saw.

Like virtually anything these days, they have been hoarded away because they might one day be "valuable". What people fail to realise is that the valuable antiques are generally valuable because so few survive in good condition. If everyone saves them, then they'll never be low in quantity.

They produce them in enormous quantities so they wouldn't really be "rare" even if they stopped tomorrow, it's just that they all got hoarded nowadays by bank workers and post office cashiers who believe the clickbait articles that insist they're worth a fortune. I've not had a single one in my change, and I pay cash for most transactions (accuse me of being a luddite if you want, but I prefer it). The only ones I've got in my collection are from people specifically saving them for me.

Might I suggest that you just don't post on this thread (and forum) and confine your reporting deaths to the 110 club? I promise you that absolutely nobody on here cares that an obscure supercentenarian has just died aged 112, or that someone created a findagrave to pretend someone had died. Either you're interested in starting arguments, or you're interested in wasting your time increasing your post count on yet another forum. This forum is clearly suited to a more mature and thick-skinned audience than teenagers who have personal rankings of their favourite old people and get upset when an obscure person who they had no personal connection to dies. In a similar vein, if people on here were to go and infiltrate the 110 club and start posting loads of rubbish that nobody there was interested in, you would also have a right to be annoyed.

I'm now intrigued to know what the hard evidence was. If I had £1 for every time I'd seen hard evidence that a 110 club member was a wrong'un, I'd have more than £2 for sure. One particular member once expressed their desire to have intercourse with a tank, but he "wasn't sure how that would work logistically".

That's a shame, I'm sure they'd be queueing up for a chance to associate themselves with the many facets of your winning personality.

CEEFAX!!!! The good old days of the BBC red button too, 555 for the lottery results. I remember us burning Match of the Day to DVDs. I've got absolutely loads of them still. I should probably start a youtube channel and post this great archive of matches on there (that's what the youth of today do, right?) Someone should really start a memories and/or a hobbies thread, so we can really get the juices flowing.
