I will say this. Inasmuch as diego was a spam machine, at least when he was called out for it he curtailed what he was doing (after a few attempts, but we got there). TOC has made no actual effort to do so and if anything seems to have gotten worse, which leads one to the inescapable conclusion that he is deliberately trolling.

Yeah this has definitely given me the capacity to believe. There are wars raging all around the world with no signs of coming to an end, but if there was one threat above all it was people dressing in animal costumes and seeing the death of one of the prominent figures within this subculture has left me thoroughly convinced that there is a benevolent god out there.

I've just witnessed a new way of dealing with annoying fuckwits who play extremely loud music through speakers on public transport. They were politely asked to stop by a few passengers, including one man who made a very valiant attempt to peacefully reason with these braindead specimens to no avail. After many stops, with us feeling resigned to our suffering, up stepped the man of the hour who yanked the stereo out of their hands and hurled it off the tram as he departed. It was an impressively good throw as well, he could be a serious contender for the hammer throw title at the next Olympics if he stays in shape.

Was there a 50% off sale at the registrar's office so they decided to splurge?

The obituary also mentions a living sister. Not many get to 98 and have a sibling still going. I don't imagine I'm getting anywhere near 98 but I'd be pretty gutted if I got there and hadn't at least claimed victory over my closest relative.

What is it with all the middle names!? I'm in agreement that it's him.

Do we know he was definitely residing in Southport?

I would if I could actually locate him on the birth index to find middle names, which I could then check against the electoral roll. Unfortunately, no Alan Rogers (or even just any Rogers) appears with a DOB of 31/12/1924 in GRO births. I can find two people called Alan Rogers residing in Southport on Ancestry, one is an Alan F Rogers born between 1942 and 1944, the other has no birthdate indication. This is probably solvable but we first need to establish that he was definitely residing in the UK, and if he was definitely born 31/12/1924.

Can we please put a filter on using the word fucking? It started off as an amusing gimmick but now it's just painful reading these posts. There's more fucking than a gay orgy, and considerably fewer virile young men to make it worth it.

It's cruelty to even film things like this. Extremely undignified and I'll never agree with the families of these people shoving them out like this for media time.

    Huw Edwards

I don't really mind Jimmy Saville being erased from a video that nobody really cares about, I'd hardly call this video significant historical footage. What I take objection to is people trying to rewrite history in this way.

Perhaps that explains why they aren't doing so well.

    Huw Edwards

This does seem a bit absurd to me. What's next, deleting historical footage of Queen Victoria because she was a staunch colonialist? Deleting footage of tennis matches involving Zverev because he was a domestic abuser? Deleting historical films that involved cast members that did some truly abysmal things off screen? Where do you draw the line between what gets kept and what doesn't? Trying to rewrite history doesn't work. You can't delete the fact that there have been truly horrible people throughout history. By all means shame them, remove their name, and make it abundantly clear that their actions are unsupportable, but the precedent of "this person has done something horrible, lets just pretend they didn't exist" creates a rather woeful precedent. The fact remains that Huw Edwards announced the Queen's death - it was a historic moment, and the fact he's been found to have done some very perverse things does not mean that that significant piece of history should be erased.

Probably because they haven't applied any scrutiny and just wanted to be first. The GRG isn't a reliable organisation and I wish people would stop treating them as such. We should wait until LQ validates him.

I rather like coexisting with nature, especially eight-legged critters as they rid the environment of horrible insects. I've two decades of experience studying spiders (autistic fascinations have no limits) and I will happily leave them be. A few summers back we had an absolutely titanic spider living under our steps in the back (he was abnormally huge even by large domestic spider standards - this was Incy Wincy's tough older brother), and he genuinely felt like another pet.

The happy consequence of having my bedroom window open a lot in this heat is that I now have the most beautiful orb weaver spider housing itself inside my room by the window. I feel much safer with this critter there because I cannot abide those nasty huge flies that get in at this time of ths year. It's nice when nature solves its own problems.

At this point, I think it's a mistranscription and what he actually said is he wants to give Joe Biden's eulogy.

I don't see why that's a downside. The more I can see of him in his swimming trunks, the better.

At least take the last bit of advice, then. Spend more money on yourself. This is advice I give to everyone. Work gives you money and you should use it. Far too many people refuse themselves things that are "too expensive", when what they really mean is "it's more than I really feel like I should spend in one go". Sod that. I am somewhat intrigued what work you do.

I know you might disagree with me on this, but one of the best pieces of advice I have ever known is to never take work home with you. I love my job too - it pays me well, I get to work on a lot of interesting things and I'm genuinely never bored. However, home is home for me - I don't respond to work emails or do anything related to work after I have finished for the day. Sometimes I might work a bit after my official hours to get something done, but as soon as I land home that's it. I always change my clothes after work, even despite being able to dress virtually how I please every day. Even on the days I work from home, I wear formal attire for work and informal attire after work. These systems have definitely allowed me to find a work-life balance that I enjoy, and given me more time for leisure activities that I find relaxing and which contribute to my improved mental health. No matter how much you love your job, it shouldn't massively eat away at your personal time. It causes problems even if they go unnoticed for a long period of time. Also, make sure you're spending enough on yourself - buy yourself things on a whim, book yourself a nice massage, and do things that you love. My mental health and ability to sleep well got significantly better since I stopped restricting myself so much and spent a lot more time on just being myself. You've plenty of support here too - if you ever want an extra person to talk to, I'm always keen to expand my network. I'm told I give good advice (though I seldom see people actually taking it!)
  24. I would be fine with that, but it's hardly like the deathlist is filled with A-listers. Nigel Starmer-Smith? If you're including people like him then surely Jonnie Irwin isn't a stretch.
  25. This is the point I am trying to make. Looking frail but having no severe health issues is not the death sentence that people think it is. I meet a lot of elderly people through social activities. I know a lady who is 93 who has looked like a gust of wind would take her out for years, but medically she's absolutely fine, hasn't visibly declined much in the past decade and I can well imagine she'll rumble on for some years yet because her health is stable. Similarly, I've seen plenty of people who were younger by a decade or more and looked much better die of severe health problems that they had. Old, frail, and stable beats younger, better externally, but suffering with health problems.
