  1. When the news bulletin began "one of Britain's best-loved comic actors ..." I was certain we'd seen off Sir Norman. Ah well ... :)

Incidentally, does anyone know if the "third Ronnie", theme composer/conductor Ronnie Hazelhurst, is still about?

  2. I don't think any ruling was made (re: the Kirsty Howard thread) but I seem to recall that there was a consensus that children were unlikely to be famous in their own right (not too many child stars around nowadays) and "famous for being ill" was not good enough.

  3. This month it will be nine years since the end of her last (8th) marriage to Larry Fortensky - that's the longest she's been unmarried in her adult life. So she's facing all this alone, it seems. Anyone know if she has a "companion" at present? I gather she's no longer matey with Michael J.

  4. It depends how long they've been in the show I suppose - we had Gretchen Franklin in the Deathlist for this year and I'm sure June Brown ("Dot Cotton") would also qualify - but I can't think of any others (of that age-group). Of ex-cast members, Ross Davidson and Anna Wing have been discussed at some length and they haven't been in it for nearly twenty years!

  5. If we have to have just one, my vote would be Brandreth... Susie Dent's used to his smell, Carol finds him charming, and I believe he used to be Whiteley's english teacher. Oh, no, wait, that was Russell Harty. But you get my point, I hope...

I have to know - what does he smell of? Cinnamon? Wet dog? Gunpowder? Wensleydale? I shall be looking for Susie's wrinkled nose next time he's on.

Speaking of Ms Dent, am I the only DLer who finds her quite attractive, in a sort of ice maiden/English rose kind of way? :P She takes "demure" to new levels.

  6. I thought William Williams Pantycelyn had the best name though.

This isn't really my field, but could Eleanor Farjeon still be alive? She penned that primary school assembly favourite, "Morning Has Broken," but I've no idea how long ago.

  7. Well we're going slightly off topic here, but it seems to me that there are people on here (and it's not confined to the UK, I'm sure) who just like to blame the Government for every little thing that goes wrong in their lives. I expect they were just the same when the other lot were in power. With regard to Iraq, it's funny, isn't it, we're constantly being told that "everybody" is opposed to the Iraq war, and yet Bush and Blair both got re-elected. Likewise, in London, "everybody" is against the congestion charge, yet Ken Livingstone was returned by a comfortable margin, despite a vitriolic anti-campaign (lasting at least 20 years) by the London Evening Standard.

Just pressure groups claiming to speak for the majority despite having been no mandate to do so.

    End of (quiet) rant.

  8. I thought this series was a bit disapointing, since the girl in it did'nt beleive in the afterlife. Then went and committed suicide just to find out for herself

I hope the spoiler posted on here earlier didn't, er, spoil it for you.

  9. I believe the law will be changed one day - but not before thousands of terminally ill people have been starved to death or been allowed to suffer needlessly in great pain.

Changes to the law will have to be handled very carefully though.

BTW I can't see Mr Josco voting for the second option somehow. ;)

  10. No it's not a reality show, you're thinking of "Most Haunted" perhaps. It's a new drama series (in six parts, I believe). Well acted I thought, and quite thought-provoking ...

Obviously if no-one else saw it, or has an opinion on it, then go ahead and delete, but I thought it kind of ties in with what we've been discussing recently, re "Do You Believe In Ghosts?"

Plus it proves that, contrary to recent evidence, I do actually know how to post a link!

  11. I was just wondering if anyone saw this last night on ITV1 (in the UK) and if so, what they thought of it.

I suppose I could have posted this on the "Ghosts" thread but what the hell, I never get to start new threads, so there. ;)

  12. Sounds like they were taking it way too seriously. You don't get fatalities in the London marathon, as far as I'm aware, because the vast majority of runners take it at a gentle jog. Essential when you're dressed as a rhino, and it takes 20 minutes just to get to the start line!
