  1. Fans of His Bobness might be able to help me with this. I heard a Dylan song on the radio at work recently. It's a long, slow song possibly from Slow Train Coming or somewhere around that time. The chorus goes "Somethin' is happening and you don't know what it is" Any ideas?

  2. To my knowledge, no man or woman has been categorically proved to have lived to the age of 128. The most widely accepted record holder is Jeanne Calment who died a few years ago aged 122. Before her there was a Japanese man who lived to 120. So it's possible that a 115 year old is the world's oldest living person.

    Sill not really famous though.

  3. Yes, she said some time ago that she would never abdicate. I'm sure that at the time it was to end speculation that she might, but she will feel now that she has to stick to that. If she goes on as long as her mother I reckon she will come to envy the comfortable retirement (when it comes) of Queen Beatrice across the water.

  4. Has Philip been listed before? If not, perhaps next year he should make his debut. We need a distinguished person to succeed the late Pope. He seems in reasonably good health at the moment but he is 85 next year - that's living on borrowed time in my book. ;)

Incidentally I believe that, after the Queen Mum, he's the longest-lived royal consort.

  5. William G Stewart is the chap you're referring to. Not sure how old he is, late 60s would be my guess. Magnus Magnusson of Mastermind fame would surely be a more promising candidate.

Incidentally, I often used to wonder what happened to the unsuccessful participants on Fifteen to One. Stewart always introduced the second half with "the three surviving contestants are ..."

  6. I started a thread on this last year, which I assume is no longer accessible. I gather Signor de Cesaris was a racing driver prone to high-speed crashes.

But it does seem strange that Jimmy Savile's demise was expected when he was only 61.

  7. Has anyone tried Banana Bread Beer? Curious stuff, rather like drinking liquid banana flavoured toffee. I can't manage more than two bottles. More of a winter drink really, well, it's a darn sight better than mulled wine. Plus, it has a recipe for banana bread on the label. Very peculiar, or should that be "peculier."

  8. On a related topic, can I just say it's good to see our old friend Jean-Claude Juncker in the spotlight, acting as mediator in the row over Britain's EU rebate.

He actually got a few lines on BBC News 24 the other night.

If anyone has to declare the constitution dead, surely he's our man.

  9. HE HAS GOT MORE TV THAN ALL OF YOU WILL EVER GET, DOWNLOADING PORN AND JERKIN OFF TO A NIPPLE SLIP BY JENNIFER ANISTON. SHOCKING!!!!!!!!!!!

This man knows me better than I know myself. ;)

Did I leave the webcam on again?

  10. He didn't come over for the TT this year as he was in hospital with an eye problem.

So, he could be a good choice for the list.

    Oh I dunno, it doesn't sound life-threatening.

Unless he's continuing to race, that is. ;)

  11. and now...

Best arrested over assault claim - BBC

George Best was arrested on Thursday after an allegation of assault. The football legend said nothing as he arrived at Staines police station, Surrey, in a taxi just after 1310 BST. Surrey Police said a 59-year-old man had been arrested over an allegation of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against a 34-year-old woman.

I think, if I'd just been beaten to within an inch of my life by a crazed woman, for any reason, I'd be a bit aggrieved at being arrested for assault immediately afterwards. Or do Surrey police not believe a woman is capable of hitting a man? :o

  12. Just like the OJ Simpson case - another mad verdict from the american jury system - oblivious to plainly spoken facts and hard evidence in front of their faces - incredulously they come up with opposite verdicts to let off the famous criminal and the leave the victims with no sense of justice and closure.

Well, I agree it seems rather perverse, but then I didn't hear all the evidence in the case - the jury did.

Anyway, I reckon his career has been irreparably damaged. After all, does anyone know what OJ Simpson's doing these days, apart from protesting his innocence on talk shows?

  13. How does my name get in there?

I have been hanging around this websight since 2003?

I must say you insult me cerebus.

No I didn't - read the posts again. I said I didn't think you were DLO. Someone else suggested you might be. I can't be bothered to look up who it was.
