Reasons for lack of deaths: 1. Hell is full 2. With climate change, the fires of hell have been lowered 3. Barack Obama is able to keep people alive longer 4. Global Financial crisis means people cannot afford to die any more 5. Lack of deaths so far is purely dramatic effect, building tension for the great swine flu pandemic 6. All of the above

G'Day all. Just replying to the accusation the Bud Tingwell is only 86. I Have a link here that claims his year of birth is 1917. Why are you calling me "Spring Chicken"? Also we MUST include Rose Porteous-Hancock (61) - Australia's answer to Anna Nicole-Smith but no-where near as attractive as Smith was. She NEEDS to be included on the list as she appears to be ill and the list would be incomplete without her anyway. I cannot remember where the link I had was for him being 86. I think 86 is correct. I was calling him a spring chicken, namely young compared to 92. Jeanette Howard ought to be considered too. He was 86, as I said, but as reported, he now won't get to 92. G'day Applecool Downunder. What can I say, you were right. But I hope you'll agree with me at least on this - Bud Tingwell will be sorely missed and Australian TV will never be the same without him. R.I.P. Bud. Fully agree, a charming man. There was a note in The Age this morning that apparently he was reported as being 90 two years ago and he rang to Age to correct their report!

As predicted just one week ago... Archbishop Sir Marcus Loane died today aged in fact 97. Good shout AC/DU, but he'd never have passed the DL fame test. Most colonials don't, sadly.

There are many Australians older than 88. Maybe only one Test cricketer though.

I heard something of ill health for Sara Douglass before Christmas but cannot remember what is wrong. Philip Newell is not so old. Didn't realise his son suicided, though I knew he died.

Other Australians you could add to the list of potentials: Alf Howard, sole remaining member of Mawson's Antarctic trip in 1920s. He's over 100. Sir Marcus Loane, former Archbishop of Sydney, aged about 96 Greg Page, Wiggle with health issues Doug Anthony, former Deputy PM Lady Sonia McMahon, had a recent tumble Brian Burke, former WA Premier (or am I just hopeful putting him on this list) Kel Nagle, golfer in late 80s Sara Douglass, author

From above: "Bud Tingwell (92) - Brilliant Australian Actor, but getting on a bit though." He's only 86. Spring chicken.

Welcome bodysnatcher44. Good to have another Melbourne contributor. "On Feb 7th the tragic bushfire that swept across Victoria Australia claimed the lives of esteemed former news reader Brian Naylor (78) and his wife Moiree. They died trying to save their home." Already mentioned a day or two after the event in this thread.

Never heard of him either. Hardly worth any mention at all I'd have thought Yeah I know. But I figure that this being an extremely slow year for celebrity deaths, Martin's death was noteworthy in that it was the first shocking death of a (somewhat) famous young celebrity. We haven't really had any shocking deaths of young celebrities until this one. I've never heard of him. Neither has Mckenzie... That's why I said SOMEWHAT famous... A lot of Americans have never really heard of him either. But amongst wrestling fans, he did have some name recognition. Obviously not in the level of The Rock, or even Chris Benoit for that matter, but he's fairly well known amongst WWE and entertainment fans. So not quite famous enough to merit a mention in two threads within 15 minutes?

Brian Naylor, famous newsreader on Channel Nine Victoria for 20 years has died, aged 78, in the bushfires surrounding Melbourne, along with his wife. (At least 106 others have died thus far.) http://www.theage.com.au/national/newsread...90208-810t.html

First of all, nobody outside of the celebrity-obsessed Americans gives a sh*t about Heath Ledger, Brad Renfro or Allan Melvin, Heath Ledger was Australian, so I would imagine news of him dying was pretty big there, as it was here in the UK. Also, because people around the world would have seen the latest Batman movie, that elevates the significance of his death to celebrity-obsessed non-Americans too. He's just been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, and I would imagine the Academy Awards has a fairly broad following in many countries around the world. I didn't know who he was until he was dead. I wouldn't have recognised him if he passed me on the street. Being Australian, I can say Heath Ledger remains big news here. But we all would have recognised him on the street - not every day you see someone looking like a Joker.

Wow, and I was only joking. Seems like I almost started WW3. (Apologies for the missing bracket at end of my earlier post. Unforgivable, I know.)

24 hours and no new death to report. Is this the effect of Barack Obama? Has he conquered death? (In which case I predict the death of deathlist. What a pity.
