    The Dead Of 2009

Apart from DDP, are there any other online death pools around to join (free ones)?

    The Dead Of 2009

Yes, I believe he was on the german government's list of former Economy Ministers. I believe he was probably also on the Christmas list of his grandchildren. Hope they didn't do their Christmas shopping too early

    The Dead Of 2009

Already posted in the Political Frailty thread. So? He also died in 2009 so ought to be in this thread too.

Thierry Henry for 2010 list? Doubt he'll survive the IRA snipers in Cape Town.

    The 13th Death Of '09

George Steinbrenner, because I don't even know who he (or she?) is. Totally random.
  7. What about Dennis Hopper? Prostate cancer. And Elton John is ill. Who's the 'Michael Jackson' of 2010 going to be?

    The Ninth Death Of '09

Swayze. He has 100% of the vote so far! All the others will live for years to come. Mr Lockerbie Bomber will have a new lease of life back home, be elected the next Libyan President and enrol Ronnie Biggs as his Chancellor.

    The Dead Of 2009

Two Democrats dead in a day? The Republicans must be creaming in their pants! Perhaps talk of his death is premature? Not reported on CNN, BBC

    The Eighth Death Of '09

Havelange. Cardin was seen sprite and well buying up a mediaeval village in France somewhere recently so unless the locals bash him to death with their baguettes, I think he'll outlast the year. Biggs is the great escape artist and Swayze has been dancing with death for ages.

    Player Choices

In the death list group I am in, we do not have names the same. Over dinner annually, beginning with the person who had the least names from the previous year, they select a name and round we go.

I won the competition for the 6th death of year (still waiting for my cigar mind you), so choosing Claude Levi-Strauss. Two in a row?

    The Dead Of 2009

Just a bird? Philistine. I have just been watching Ospreys in Scotland, The ones we watched on the river Cassley had just the one chick. Another nest about seven miles away was deserted when only one parent returned. That said the Ospreys generally are doing quite well and there are plenty about in Scotland, everywhere except Fraserborough. I'm on the move from nest to nest just now (Funchal today) hence sporadic posting. I can't help noticing there seems to have been an influx of dickheads on the forum. Oh well, I guess it's the silly season. Whoever you are, welcome dickheads but don't overstay and don't on any account upset our cherished regulars. I have noticed some rather rude comments directed at the gentle LFN, Lardy, Rotten Ali and the "mostly harmless" Honez to name just five. If just one dickhead could be converted in to a reasonably articulate poster I guess that would be a result. I'm not holding my breath. Oh dear, no Applecool, please don't draw that inference. Read the note. It said Philistine, not dickhead. You live in Australia so I'm not sure whether you are a Prisoner of Mother England or a genuine Aussie. But it must be tough there at the moment, living with the shame of defeat at Lords. You have my commiserations. I guess the ant was called Flintoff. I slept well in my bunker DDT after a glass or two of chilled Madeira. Yes, all ants here go by the names of English cricketers. It is so therapeutic. Roll on the 3rd Test...

    The Dead Of 2009

No firm evidence of death yet, you cannot claim DDP points. A bit like Steve Fossett last year. Oh, and it's just a bird. Maybe I should put up a posting for the ant I killed in the kitchen? If I am meant to draw an inference that I am a dickhead, get a life. Some people obviously have no sense of humour.

    Each Year's Most Significant Death.

Like your argument, but a Pope isn't a one-off. Rather like the death of a monarch - unless there is a serious regime change (ie - scrapping the monarchy) then it is a case of "The Pope is dead - Long live the Pope" as there's always going to be a new one chosen in a few days. Plus in the case of JPII he'd been probably the most watched soon-to-be-dead-person since the Queen Mum (Gawd bless 'er) and certainly in his final few days, and for a couple of days around Nov/Dec the year previously whe he was ill, everyone was waiting for him to die. At the time I was working for a news gathering agency and I usually answered the phone with "is he dead yet then?" such was the anticipation. Michael Jackson was unique, a one-off. He is irreplacable; and for all the rumours about his health and the feeling that he wold never reach old age, his death still came as a shock and out of the blue. There hadn't been a death like this since Saint Diana. Therefore most significant death of 2009? Certainly. I'd argue it's the second most significant event of this decade in fact. Michael who?

Bobby Robson, for no reason except that no one else had mentioned him, though someone else did vote for him

Jian Xianlin has died. To bad...who is he? That sounds very uncaring. I am sure his mother is most distraught...

    Hooroo, Mate.

I suspect he's also getting a lot of pleasure after his death too. Not well known in the public eye but a very prolific writer I think.

Tony Kempster died today. Once again the Swear Filter rears its ugly head. Swear filter? Other websites with this quote all have 's.i.g.n.i.f.i.c.a.n.t' growth. At least downunder, this is not a swear word.

    The Dead Of 2009

Why do people keep reporting this? It's because they don't check to see if they have their own thread, it gets reported here moved to the correct thread and then someone else comes along thinking that no one else has reported it, so they post the info again on here. This thread is the Dead of 2009 and she died in 2009 so it belongs here, even if she has her own thread. Surely not one OR the other. In which case this thread should be 'Dead of 2009 Who Do Not Have Their Own Thread'.
