  1. To be a great death, to me it needs to be great at the time. Otherwise it's not really the death that is great/noteworthy/memorable, it's the person and their life's body of work that's great. So, although Picasso was a great artist, with many (now) famous works, the fact he was old, and wasn't cranking out masterpieces when he went, would mean although his death was that of a quite significant figure, it lacked the "Whoa!" factor. In this regard, there is a difference between "great" and "significant". The (for lack of a better word) entertainment factor needs to be present, for me at least, for a death to be truly great.

Assuming he was well-known throughout a reasonably large part of the then-known world, Jesus' death, especially if it was how Mel Gibson envisioned it, would be a fairly great one. I'm just not sure how famous he was at the time - clearly not as famous as he is now.

Deaths which are unknown at the time and are only found out about subsequently should, in my view, be evaluated as if the person died just before the world finds out about it.

In some cases (give me a chance to find a example) its not the life of the unknown which makes them famous it is in fact their cause or way out of this world which then makes them famous

  2. I'm guessing the mods will message directly on that one. We've got a media profile, mind. The Sun newspaper cover us once in a while, especially when Keith Richards says he's pissed off we've dropped him from the list.

Im sure he just craves the attention

  3. I recently got a call from radio1 tendering me to be on a daytime so which links up companys and discuss's topics for the day. I wont mention the presenter but she is scottish and i think quite hot.

Anyway if i get selected is it worth giving deathlist a shout and see the nations opinions or would it cause to many ranters to potentially destroy what has been created?

  4. Instead, I find comments from insensitive people who need to be prayed for, badly.

Tammy's soulmate was so bad at praying, he was, amongst other things, not good enough to stand on the carpet.

seems like he is cashing in on tammys passing to me

  5. Three Reasons why a Father should never go shopping for baby Clothes !!

  6. Hi, maybe its just me, but to wish death on ANYBODY, it seems a bit harsh. don't you think, people say others should die, would any of us be capable of killing someone we thought ought die? I don't think so. I couldn't.

If it was April 1945, and I was Clint Eastwood in Where Eagles Dare, except the mission was changed and I had to kill Hitler hiding in his mountain castle, I'm pretty sure I could pull that trigger.

Its a shame really that in the end he took his own life bet the whole allied forces we gutted they didnt get a shot at him

Nobody is wishing anybody dead we are just looking at foregone conclusions of people we know are going to die soon. Death is a morbid facination, even the fact that you have signed up and posted means ur interested.

  8. Whether Jesus 'died' or not it's the most significant death since it's central to christian belief that he did die and was raised from the dead. No death has had more significance in history, nor is any death likely to as far as anyone can see.

Then again, the recent sacking of Neil McDonald as Carlisle manager is making a few waves.

Jesus is an interesting one. How well known throughout the world was he at the time he died? Were millions of people thinking, "Damnit, Jesus died", or was it just the disciples and assorted hangers-on who were sad? For me, the death has to have a profound impact on people everywhere at the time the person goes.

Besides, are we totally certain there even was a Jesus?

Thats the point tho! it doesnt matter if he did or didnt exist the point is that his "death" was prolific and still effects people today. I think it was more than his followers so yes id say that he would have been famous in those days. Half the roman army was after him surely that would have made him well known.

Im not religious in anyway and i usually have these sorts of debates with believers but u cant doubt that its effected the way we live today thats the sh*t with religion, its all good to have a faith if it makes you happy but if it starts causing death then its got to be questioned

  9. Think you'd make a good webslinger? Try this double wires game out and see how good you'd be.

I'm struggling to get past 95 yards.

An absolute monstrosity of a game!! :)

    Less than 7 yards. :skill2:

Far too frustrating to play at this time of day. :ghost:

51.47 Yards well worth the bollocking i got from my boss!!

I am actually getting addicted now and may have got the sack but 266.49 yards gotta be hard to beat!!!! i think i may actually die before i give up this game just wont end just like Clive dunn

    im still playing 344 yards

  10. a really bad joke i got sent yesterday, so bad i thought id share it and for once its clean.

A farmer goes out to his field one morning only to find all of his cows

    frozen solid.

As far as the eye can see are cows, motionless like statues.

It had been a cold night, but he'd never thought anything like this

    would happen.

The realisation of the situation then dawned on him.

With his entire livestock gone, how would he make ends meet? How

would he feed his wife and kids? How would he pay the mortgage?

He sat with his head in his hands, trying to come to terms with his

    impending poverty.

Just then, an elderly woman walked by, "What's the matter?" asked the

    old lady.

The farmer gestured toward the frozen cows and explained his

    predicament to the woman.

Without hesitation the old woman smiled and began to rub one of the

cows noses. After a few seconds the cow began to twitch and was soon

back to normal and chewing the cud.

One by one the old woman defrosted the cows until the whole field was

full of healthy animals. The farmer was delighted and asked the woman

what she wanted as a repayment for her deed.

She declined his offer and walked off across the field.

A passer-by who had witnessed the whole thing approached the farmer.

"You know who that was don't you?" asked the passer-by.

    "No" said the farmer "who?"

    "That was Thora Hird."

  11. How about Jesus! surely his so called death has led to countless amounts of suffering, pain and death all in his and his fathers name. Apparently he also died for our sins aswell believe me if you go just on mine he must have been carrying a bloody big burden.

  13. Did anyone know that they are making a film about his life, Tom Hanks is producing it. Supposed to be released sate side thi syear but that is yet to be confirmed.

Just got to wait and see now if he can make it to his own premier.

  14. Interesting article about his current state of affairs. While he's still in the early stages of Alzheimers, everything else sounds rather grim.

Perhaps it's for our resident Isle Of Man-ners to investigate further...

I kNow a joke on the subject ... (Clears throat) two drunks in the pub stammering over there 7th pint of the day when one turns to the other and says "i have a good one for you. If you could either have one or the other what would you have? Parkinsons or Alzhemiers?"

" Thats a good one but its deffinatly got to be parkinsons"

"that was a quick anwser, why so deffinate?"

"well" said the second drunk " Id rather spill half my pint than forget where i put it in the first place"
