  1. HOSNI MUBARAK R.I.P . GREAT DAY FOR THE WORLD!

    1) He isn't dead yet.

    2) We've yet to see whether or not this will be a great day for the world.

    1). is certainly true.

2). may be true. At the moment I would say it is a much more positive day than negative.

  2. Fiji's President Josefa Iloilo, 88, who has often been mentioned hereabouts, is to retire next month.

    Dead. http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/world/67897/...-president-dies

I'm gobsmacked that Ratu Iloilo hasn't got a UK obituary yet. He was a often mentioned in the British press when he was alive and was a significant figure in Melanesian politics for many years. The two teams who picked him on the DDP possibly have similar concerns.

Iloilo was also the paramount chief of the district of Viseisei in Fiji's Ba Province (just up the road from the airport, for the benefit of anyone who's ever visited Fiji), where the consumption of kava is still practised with enthusiastic vigour. Traditionally when a great ruler such as Iloilo dies, the menfolk hold a several day long vigil consuming gallons of the stuff and getting so numbed in body and mind that they are unable to even speak for up to a week. I doubt that there is anywhere in the world right now where the male populace are more incapable of anything than they are here.

    Devon? :birthday2:

  3. Irony dawned on me today.

Jerry "I control the world in my own mind" Jones built a travesty of a stadium to get the Super Bowl, swearing his Cowboys were going to play in the Super Bowl in their own stadium. Not only did the Cowboys have one of their worst seasons ever and not make the playoffs, the possibility exists for their two historical rivals to play in the Super Bowl in their stadium.

Green Bay v. Pittsburgh. I so want that to happen.

Yes, I hate Jerry Jones with a passion and his stadium looks like a cockroach.

Dallas here I metaphorically come. Think I'll start the tailgate now.

Metaphorically is better. It costs several hundred for one of the tailgate spots during the regular season. I am not even looking to see what they're going for during the Super Bowl.

    Never in doubt. ;)

Jerry didn't exactly come up smelling of (yellow) roses, Xtina fluffed her lines and the Black Eyed Peas were dull.

Seriously? World Champions? what other nations took part in this?

To be fair, the flag does say "world champions".

  4. Well, well.

I just tried to log in on Facebook and got the following message:

    Account disabled

Your account has been disabled. If you have any questions or concerns, you can visit our FAQ page here.

    The FAQ told me:

    Why was my account disabled?

Your account was disabled because the name under which it was registered was fake. In addition, Facebook accounts are intended for use by single individuals, so groups, clubs, businesses, or other types of organizations are not permitted to maintain accounts.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Perhaps I'll return under another alias, but for now as fas as I'm concerned Facebook can FOAD.

    regards,

    Hein

Were you registered as "Magere Hein"?

  5. Gary Moore - as posted in dead pop stars already :-)

    I guess he's be

    in a while...

I was very saddened to hear of Gary Moore's demise. He was instrumental [sic] in the formation of my early musical tastes and was still a nostalgic favourite of mine whenever I heard him around and about. Shame that. I'll miss you Gazza.

Quoted out of context, this could give folks the wrong impression...

  6. I remember my teacher telling me that looking out of the window wouldn't get me anywhere.

Did I have a smug look on my face later on in life when I handed him his Burger and fries at the drive through.

This joke doesn't really work though, because working at a McDonalds/Burger King isn't really "getting somewhere" in life.

    Please do bette next time.

  7. **snip**

Then you get into a rule of thumb situation. Would a team with a greater perceived disadvantage of more than 10% be able to win this competition? I guess not, and that puts any of the top nine teams (more than 43,170pts) odds on to win even at this stage.

Another rule of thumb could be the winner will definatly come from a team in the top 3 quarters or most likely from a team in the top 25%.

I ask again - do you have a life?

He clearly doesn't. He takes the death list and its related stats to their most obsessive degree. Sad really...

  8. Blinking news reporters...

Just caught a moment of Peter Allen going on about a previous secretary of education...

    And talking about "she was"...

I put these two half bits of info together a bit too well...

Only now finding out that it's only just that it was twenty years ago today that Mrs T left office...

    Oh well...

Now I'm here and felling a bit daft and deflated...

    We live in hope.

Is it really 20 years ago since she resigned? I remember it so well...

It was also 20 years ago when the man in your avatar resigned - now he's back.

Maybe Maggie will stage a similar comeback? :wheelchair:

  9. Does anybody actually know what form of cancer it is? Note they're saying it's 'inoperable and life-threatening' no indication of how long he may have.

Q magazine will almost certainly acknowledge his demise.

    Well I don't!

And I've half a mind to think it is a scam.

Second Rate musician in three minor one hit bands. And as I understand it, adding little to the back catalog + I've never heard of him.

Wiki page has this on him...

"Frederiksen is involved in increasing awareness of Hepatitis C through benefit shows for the American Liver Foundation."My guess is that he also has HepC and this has little to do with any cancer.

Back to that one bit of news - saying the same thing "inoperable and life-threatening cancer" - in every place I've looked.

One benifit concert, back in July 2010 - adding funds to a family trust?

    No other news since?

    No news about the hospital.

    No news about prognosis.

    NADA.

If the said cancer were really serious (liver) he would have not seen out the year.

I think it's BS to say inoperable in the middle of last year and he still be going now without some form of treatment.

So what has this treatment been? Has it really been given up on?

Is anyone really interested beyond thinking he may be worth 9 pts (and just 8pts beyond May 15th)?

Toto were hardly a 'minor one-hit band'. And besides, there are cancers that can linger for years before they see people off, Egyptian president (for now at least) Hosni Mubarak is supposed to have had prostate cancer for years, actor Jerry Orbach was ill with prostate cancer for much of his time on Law & Order right up until his death. I knew a guy who was ill with cancer for years, at various points he was given 2-3 years but ended up lasting a lot longer than the doctors had forecast, though that was not such a good thing.

Perhaps there has been no further news because he would rather keep it amongst his friends and family rather than the public at large. Are you such an expert on cancer that you can say definitively how long people afflicted with inoperable forms of it will last?

Toto were a 'minor three-hit band', at least on these shores, and those hits were prior to Frederiksen's invovlement.

Debatable whether he will get a UK obit. Bizarre choice if you ask me (you didn't, but I will offer my opinion anyway)

  10. President Mubarak of Egypt looks likely to stand in the next presidential election.

At 82 years of age and with rumours of cancer he was mentioned as a possibilty for 2011.

Have they talked about his health in the last couple of weeks? I haven't heard it mentioned, but I haven't been following 24/7 news either. Like Berlusconi and Gaddafi, his hair looks disconcertingly black for an OAP. So vain, these dictators.

    Berlusconi is hardly a dictator!

  11. In the good ol' US of A, Mark Madoff's death actually received more media coverage than Leslie Nielsen's passing!!!!!!

You would think that Mark Madoff was you know, actually a real celebrity. Of course he ain't!!!

Would this have anything to do with their respective nationalities perchance?

    Irrelevant.

Leslie Nielsen was much better known than a Madoff son.

Then how do you account for the greater coverage?

because the whole Madoff story is such a big deal, a symbol of the corporate greed of our times, and such a train wreck.

I can guarantee you that very few people knew the name of Bernie Madoff's son before his death. However many millions knew of Leslie Nielsen.
