1 hour ago, The Old Crem said:Quite different things. Eriksen (Playing right now as it happens) has a heart condition which until then he didn’t know about and went into cardiac arrest. Hamlin was hit in the chest and his heart then sttopped. He could have major damage to that region which n could make recovery challenging. Eriksen was also conscious as soon as he was revived while Hamlin is still unconscious.
reminds me of an incident that happened in the NHL a few years ago: Chris Pronger took a slapshot to the chest and collapsed shortly after (warning).
he later explains what happens here (to save a click: it's called 'commotio cordis' his heart skipped a single beat, resulting in less oxygen being pumped throughout his body and eventually causing him to pass out). he went on to play hockey for another 14 years.
like you say though, Hamlin is unconscious so it's obviously more severe. here's hoping he makes a full recovery. -

Frank Gehry is getting up in years. he'll be 94 next year.
both looked fine when i did my annual sweep of the web for updates on my previous picks.
Glock did have COVID earlier this year, but seems to have recovered. Gehry seems to be indestructable (or very private about any health struggles... then again architects seem to live forever)

Penguins defenceman Kris Letang suffers a stroke
not career threatening (let alone life threatening), but seeing as this is his second one, he’s worth keeping an eye on in the future

names i'm considering outside of the ones in the above lists, or featured on the DL main (note: depending on your location they may not meet the fame requirement):
- Ted Turner (television producer: founder of CNN/TNT), 84, lewy body dementia since 2018
- Michael Caine (actor), 89, old and frail, yall are aware
- Borje Salming (hall of fame hockey player), 71, ALS, already lost ability to speak and eat
- Stella Stevens (actress), 84, dementia for years (tip of the hat to goosebury for the suggestion elsewhere on the site)
- Lindsey Buckingham (fleetwood mac), 73, emergency heart surgery in 2019 and undisclosed 'ongoing' health issues cancelling all concerts this year (not even postponing) and lack of updates.
- Alice Munro (nobel prize-winning author), 91, in poor health for years (i'm stubborn and will keep her on my list until she goes)
- Sir Quentin Blake (artist, and illustrator: Roald Dahl), 90, just old (one of those 'surprised he's still alive' entries)
- Gordon Lightfoot (Singer), 84, emphysema and somewhat frail
- Roger Corman (Director/Producer) 96, just old
others that i'm considering for the role of joker, just because of general health concerns: Phil Collins, Salman Rushdie, Jimmy Buffett, Tim Curry

risky pick because i’ve included her on my list for 3 years now, thus granting her immortality.
