  1. Is it possible to request a change in someone else's user name?

This wouldn't be about an 'i' that isn't before an 'e' by any chance, would it?

Oh yes. I'm losing layer after layer of tooth enamel with the involuntary grinding that happens every time I see it.

    :D

  2. Oi, I've looked in on this thread twice and it's still showing no views. Is the site possessed by strange beings or is there summat up with the software?

I think it's aliens. I noticed the same thing last week on a new thread that I had viewed a couple of times, and new posts had appeared in.

  3. Boudicca, I'm intrigued by what quirks of fate brought you and your sister to such different places on the social ladder. You come across as erudite and well-read (dare I say it, even intelligent!), and your chav-tastic sister well, rather less so. What could have happened in your past to lead you down such different paths? Was she corrupted by her other half, or were you rescued from impending chav-dom by Mr B? Is she rebelling against a middle class upbringing? Too much cake as a child? Too early an exposure to Burberry check?

    So many possibilities...

  4. Does anyone know of a website where you can tap in the contents of your fridge, click and it comes up with a recipe?

I ask this because I am expected to make a meal sometime over the next few hours and all I have to work with is a cabbage, a sprig of broccoli, an onion & some tomatoes as someone forget to get anything out of the freezer last night...me apparently, so my othewr half has proportioned the blame.

So come on fellow DListers, help and save me from having to get the car out and dash to Tescos.

Sounds like a stir-fry to me. Some chicken or pork would help, obviously. Do you have soy sauce, garlic, ginger, spices etc at home?

  5. I'm going to have to have a rant about these two threads. Namely the "near misses" and the "not exactly famous".

Please you Mods, lets have some order. I can't help but feel most of the postings for these two areas coming from oribit swipes from wiki et al, should be placed only in the "not exactly famous" tread. Only those people who are genuinely known by most people (ie famous by both name and image) and are regular picks in DDP (and not on the DeathList 50 persons list) should be in this near misses thread.

To confirm if it's DDP hit or a really famous person (say someone famous as Douglas Barder) its in here, if its an orbit swipe of someone most people have never heard of (like this WWII flying chap, god rest his soul, thanks very much and all that) then its only in the "not exactly famous".

Or, more simply, and less subjectively, restrict iain to only posting in the 'not exactly famous' thread. That would cut the mods' workload from your proposal in half. I like your idea though, despite how difficult it might be to classify them. For instance one of our esteemed mods has an interest in chess, so he may say that all dead chess players posted would count as famous. Similarly, if one of them had an interest in WWII flyers, and their circle of contacts (outside DL) consisted almost exclusively of like-minded people, then this person would appear to be famous to them.

  6. You and Wikipedia are a bit slow I posted that two days ago in the correct thread,

"Not exactly famous but worth a mention"

Tempus, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't necessarily make it drink the water, if you get my meaning regards a certain member. :)

But you can always shoot the horse! :D

... and Iain would probably post its death in this thread!

(Yes, I understand Iain IS the horse, so that would not be possible, but you never know with Iain....)

That would be perfectly reasonable. The posts iain produces usually relate to non-famous people, or non-dead people, or sometimes both. So a non-dead non-famous horse would fit his criteria perfectly.

  7. tpom manhy photos on thes page takes near on a mihntue to load up.

    Morning Bruno!

Do you consume alcohol with breakfast? If so I'm very impressed.

Not so much with breakfast as for breakfast, methinks.

    :P

  8. In other old people news, today Maria Capovilla's lifespan ties that of the 5th (or 6th if you count Shigechiyo Izumi) oldest fully documented and officially validated person to have ever lived. Thus, if she lives until tomorrow, she'll move up a peg in the all-time rankings.

Just out of interest, why wouldn't you count Shigechiyo Izumi?

  9. With all the controversy over his nose, how much do you suppose Michael Jackson fans would pay for his bogies. Label them as 'inner nose scrapings' and your all the way.

His fans look like a bunch of looneys so it should be an easy sale.

You'd need to be very careful scraping that nose.

  10. Bird flu has been found in a cat

I'm now waiting for the headlines

    "Bird flu now in dog"

"Goat goes down with A (H5N1) Virus"

    "Fresian Cattle now infected"

    "Killer 'Flu shocks equine world"

    "Old Woman Dead (of course)"

Now you mention it, I don't remember the "H5N1 attacks insect world" or "Spider dies of New strain of Avian Flu" headlines. Maybe they were hushed up by the Chinese government.

  11. It's Limbo for me!

Charon ushers you across the river Acheron, and you find yourself upon the brink of grief's abysmal valley. You are in Limbo, a place of sorrow without torment. You encounter a seven-walled castle, and within those walls you find rolling fresh meadows illuminated by the light of reason, whereabout many shades dwell. These are the virtuous pagans, the great philosophers and authors, unbaptised children, and others unfit to enter the kingdom of heaven. You share company with Caesar, Homer, Virgil, Socrates, and Aristotle. There is no punishment here, and the atmosphere is peaceful, yet sad.

    Woo-hoo!

  12. Now I consider myself to be a reasonably erudite sort of cove, well travelled and knowledgeable in the ways of the world; able to keep up with contemporary thinking and movements in both the cultural and political worlds, and to confound Josco Junior with my grasp of current modern music and trends.

I am sorry, but I have to ask: Who?

Do you mean you dance spectacularly and vigorously in your beige cardigan at JJ's school discos? Rather like the dancing that your 'little man' does incessantly.

'Mm, it's got a good beat', as Hugh Dennis used to say.

  13. Voted yes as well.

I was veering towards no, but the silver-tongued arguments of Star Crossed and in eternum+ persuaded me to see the benefits of guest posts. Guests who post lots of times without registering wind me up, Himler recently being a good example of this. The DLRI is a good reason to allow them, also the sheer lunacy and narrow-mindedness of some of them (especially those in the Pete Twunterty thread) makes me chuckle. Perhaps guest posts could be banned from those threads which have been taken over by these posts.

Maybe if those who have registered start ranting, then the mods could have a polite word. :) or :D perhaps?
