I am considering giving up alcohol for Lent, but I may just give up wine. Is that cheating?

The BBC website is saying that Ian Richardson, Shakespearian actor, has died. No link yet.

They're live. Half an hour before they were still promoting today's show, so it seems to be a very last-minute decision.

I'm shocked he has a daughter.
Seems odd to have a sudden absence though when that report is a week old.

Just before today's show they announced that O'Grady couldn't do today's show, instead they would be showing a repeat. I doubt anyone would have noticed, but before the previous programme they were still trailing the live programme, so it seems a bit of a sudden decision. Another heart attack maybe?

My team isn't up yet, but I don't really expect any of them to die. Last year I had only one death, and that was pretty late on. I am so convinced of my bad luck that I have actually chosen my joker as the person I least want to die. I don't want him to die not because I like him particularly, but because I know that it will really piss off someone I know if they survive another year.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Vinegar Tits.I always thought Vinegar Tits was a woman. I wonder how many others I have given the incorrect gender in my mind?
Happy Anniversary, by the way.

I am astonished that I have finally had a hit on the DDL with Ross Davidson. I thought being on my list was the kiss of life. The fact that it happened whilst I was on my honeymoon makes it even sweeter.

No, Lady G, I never get further than drinking the gin.

Look at your own DNA.
I got this from a "100 things to do before you die" booklet, free with New Scientist a couple of years back.
Equipment: salt, a strong drink and some washing up liquid.
"First get a sample of your own cells by swilling salty water vigorously around your mouth for half a minute. Spit it out into a small glass containing a teaspoon of washing up liquid diluted with three teaspoons of water. Give this a good stir for a few minutes so that the detergent can break open the cells and release the DNA.
Then, very gently, pour a couple of teaspoons of ice-cold strong alcohol down the side of the glass. Gin works fine. If you are careful, it will form a separate layer on top of the spit-salt mix. Soon you'll see spindly white clumps forming in the alcohol"
...and that's your DNA!
Or you could just drink the gin.

If he lasts out this year it looks like Danny LaRue could be a good bet for next year.

I am convinced that no one on my DDP list will die. Perhaps I should sell spaces on there next year to those who aren't quite ready to go despite a terrible prognosis.

I just got engaged - is there a male version I could use?

Thank you, Captain Oates. My personal favourite is HCW's, however.

Have got Crime and Punishment in my "waiting" pile. Is it an easy read?It is a great book, Godot, and very easy to read. Quite modern in its outlook despite the setting.

I have returned after a couple of years off. I didn't post much before. Have also entered the DDP for the first time in a few years. I expect that like previous years, all my list will see the year out without bothering the undertaker.
