  1. We're up again...

Your headline & caption for Attenborough really made me laugh. And I forgot he helped launched Channel 4, that's a lot more than BBC's shitty half-arsed TV report told me. (Obviously, muttered comments about whether that's a good thing or not will inevitably follow given what C4's been like over the last few years.)

Also, I still think it's possible we could lose nearly half of the Drop Forty by the end.

  2. re: former DDP pick Donatas Banionis who died yesterday, I was gonna say "That's one you can stick on the list of the lost right away" but then I realised he wasn't picked again this year. Probably doesn't even warrant an article on the Film4 website nevermind BBC or whatever. Although he did get one from the Onion's A.V. Club in the US.

Shocking the people some expect to get qualifying obits sometimes...

  3. I was away when Richard Attenborough died and I was convinced that he was on the list.

I think this should go alongside Tony Benn and The General as the three big misses of the year but in my opinion I had Lauren Bacall down as a survivor so that is one i didn't expect to go in 2014.

I take it that unlike the Bank of England Monetary Policy committee the Deathlist committee do not publish their minutes so the public can scrutinize the decision making and voting.

Eh, Benn, who cares. One of the worst ones no-one really mentions is actually Fred Phelps, he should have been on. That was a shame - Windsor actually suggested him, maybe I should have too.

  4. Are we ever going to get any details on the "successes" of 2014? Or is no one interested any more, and perhaps preparing to end this increasingly half-hearted series

Lots of things are either missing or in short supply in these extremely strained and fractious times we live in which put one in mind of the run-up to World War One. Like.... quality entertainment, a palpable sense of national security, and politicians who you wouldn't want to see pushed into a vat of radioactive molasses. (Then again you're probably too dumb to even realise we live in such times.)

So, is it really that much of a big deal that those haven't been filled in? It's a small casualty in the grand scheme of things and this website is still doing a lot better than your shitty one (whatever it is).

Besides, I think having (an) AWOL leader(s) lends us a slightly lovable air of a mad cult, a little bit like Scientology but obviously much less scary and nuts. Or something like that.

    In summary: Shut up.

  5.

Eh..... the guy's clearly a trooper. Or he just has plenty of cash to spend on experimental treatments that poor people can't get. Or both. I'm tempted to make a total U-turn on my previous sentiments and say he'll make it into 2015. Then again 4 months is a long time. Then again again, he looks better than $teve Job$ did and he was around for years.

  6. South African bowler Norman Gordon, formerly the world's oldest cricketer and last survivor of the 'timeless test', is out after reaching 103.

And he was the last living man to have played test cricket before World War II.

So he survived a series of gruelling, awful and brutally tedious battles that would leave you too scarred to even tell anybody about.......... and World War II.

  7. http://www.telegraph...-years-ago.html

Birthday gal lost her proof 40 years ago..

But by fuck, she looks 127.

Some utter fucktard isn't doing their sums right.

She was 27 when World War One erupted, 75 when John F. Kennedy was shot and nearly 100 when the Berlin Wall came down. Supposedly born on August 31, 1887 – the year Queen Victoria celebrated her Golden Jubilee –

The Berlin wall came down in 1989 so how could she have been "nearly 100"? Fuck off.

  8. Looks like they're taking her out of the coma and the family might file a lawsuit

It's just like the Schumacher thing now. We'll find out if she's a vegetable if/when she wakes up. And presumably if she does it'll be a lot faster than Schumi. Which he won't like!

I have a strong feeling she's a goner though. All this talk about whether she was deprived of oxygen or not strongly suggests she was. i.e........ that clinic didn't have any kind of emergency oxygen on hand or any resuscitation equipment.

  9. I forgot to post this one yesterday, but since it's still the 30th over in America...

Former WWF wrestler Killer Kowalski (real name Walter) died on August 30th 2008.

    02.jpg

Of course, to most younger wrestling fans he's mainly remembered as the guy who trained Triple H.

Also, here on the 31st of August of course it's the day (or night) Princess Diana died in Paris in 1997, in a huge car crash.

Hope you guys have got your commemorative plates ready!

  10. December the 18th 2014 . One winter too much for good old zsa zsa .

Does it ever get very cold in Los Angeles during the winter season?

I guess not by UK standards , but someone acclimatised to 30 degrees being the norm might suffer from the temperature dipping to 15 to 8 degrees especially when old .

Erm....... central heating? Unless someone's retarded enough to leave a window open all night. You're really clutching at straws here! Just admit you were wrong haha....

She's probs gonna hang on for a while yet. (But then I thought Thatcher was gonna carry on past 90 and surprise everybody...)

Zorders, people tend to get sick with the flu more frequently during the winter period. More importantly, viruses spread much easily in lower temperatures, so it's not really as much about leaving a widow open, as it is to being contaminated by other people that have a cold. At that age, being near someone who coughs or sneezes can prove to to be fatal.

I usually get sick when the weather changes to being cold enough to put the heating on. Any germs that have been in the air vents all through the Summer get pushed out around the house.

Like so many fascinating things, that is gross. Or do I just personally find it fascinating because it's gross. I don't know.

Why don't you..... find a way to clean out the vents? Too much of a faff I guess?

    Hahaha

btw I was just responding to the engineer talking about the temperature at night....... I never brought up the temperature in the first place so lecture him!

anyway whatever I really doubt they all walk around in LA in December sniffling and blowing into handkerchiefs, come on. That's why they move there in the first place.

  13. Going to beat the usual suspects in here - Jake Roberts unconscious in hospital with pneumonia: http://dailywrestlin...vegas-hospital/

"Fading in and out of consciousness" according to DDP on Twitter, who is presumably bricking it at losing his meal ticket if Jake dies.

I'm heading over to YouTube now to watch his (in)famous appearance and promo at the 1999 "Heroes of Wrestling" one-off PPV, as many times as I can, while it's still funny and not yet tragic.

(I'll be doing the same for Gazza's "Fog on the Tyne" if he keeps getting worse)

you wanna play 21  ? Also if you watch botchamania its at the start of the intro's well the old intro's . For years i wondered why he was saying that and were it came from then on a plane i was listening to some podcasts mainly attitude era podcast heroes of wrestling review and there it was, had to contain myself from looking like a psycho and laughing out loud to myself in front of my fiancee and the whole plane.

That's almost the only thing I remember him from, I remember when I first read about that promo online I died laughing just reading a transcript of it. Apart from being a drunk and being the guy that Austin happened to beat to become 1996 KOTR just before his famous 3:16 promo. So I won't be "heartbroken" or whatever, when/if he dies like (seemingly) most of the other wrestling fans on DL/this thread may be. Cos I never saw him as a kid or came to admire him as a performer as I know many wrestling fans do. That's just one of the (many) advantages of the fact that I chose to sit out the shitty pre-Attitude era and I only became a fan in late 1997 & early 1998. Same goes for Warrior, all I knew about him was his "craziness" and his politics (although even as crazy as he was, as a part-time right wing nut job I can't help admiring his conservative "spirit" or something). And that incredibly stupid fucking entrance theme with the excessive cymbal that used to make me piss myself laughing every time I heard it on a bit of "vintage" footage.

Still I do actually hope he lives cos he seems like a nice enough guy and everything.

  15. I am a fan of Joan Rivers-although she was out of order saying some of the things she did about the Middle East by in large she says exactly what people think and is one of those brutally honest battleaxes/divas who is very entertaining to watch!I hope she recovers!

Now that's a scary thought... if "everyone" is thinking the kind of stuff she usually says.

(p.s. I just saw she's now "stable". Also she already had her own thread, someone move these posts?)

  16. Nah, it's called Google. Yes, she has made a career of saying outrageous things, mostly about d-list stars and plastic surgery. Justin Bieber is her portfolio so to say, so that's understandable even if completely stereotyping. However, it's not her job to judge the Middle East conflict, or using homosexuality as a slur.

But then I didn't know you were a fan.

Yeah..... when you say stuff like that you're falling into bad stereotypes again..... y'know "stepping out of line" and stuff.

  17. Wow you're keeping a dossier..... okay. I guess you didn't realise the old cow has made a career out of saying "outrageous" things. The first two are just understandable overreactions to the excessive pro-Palestinian media coverage/internet chatter....

And the fact that she actually knows who Justin Bieber is probably means she's a lot more mentally alert than most 80 year olds.....
