Well, he's not getting any younger, plus he had open heart surgery last year too. It does sound rather like his body is beginning to fall apart though, which is a bit worrying. Rather good to read that proceeds of the recent Talking Heads stage show went to the NHS, seeing as I went to see one of them (the Kristin Scott Thomas/Rochenda Sandall)  in that short time in September when we could still enjoy a bit of culture.

Did he sell his house in London btw? I remember it was up for sale a while back but not sure of the outcome.

Bram van der Vlugt (86) was known for portraying the well renowned (Dutch) precursor to Santa Claus, Sinterklaas from 1986 to 2010, with occasional portrayals since then :)

A great actor who was part of many a child's upbringing, also known for playing in TV shows like Dokter Deen and Willem van Oranje (1984).

I thought he would live at least another five years and so did he apparently; his obit mentions he expected to reach the age of 95 - and his fear for getting COVID-19 :(

    RIP

He's a friend of mine's father. Really, really sad news, especially so close to Christmas.

EDIT: I've passed your sympathies on to her. The fact that he was so loved in the Netherlands is helping her with her personal loss.

  3. Maybe 2020 and Covid_19 isn't so bad after all. And on Friday 13th too!

I rarely welcome someone's death but I'm from Bradford and grew up in the 70s. The horror and terror women had, the posters of missing/murdered women in shop windows, having to accompany my mother when she walked to the doctors on an evening because she couldn't walk on her own and couldn't risk getting a taxi or ask customers/friends from the pub we lived in because they could have been 'him', is not easy to forget.

I hope he suffered in his final moments. May he rot in hell.

Hot Metal was a fun but forgotten 80s sitcom, with him and Robert Hardy.

Watched Hot Metal a few months ago. Not a patch on Drop The Dead Donkey, mainly due to lack of topicality, but still holds up well.

I'd rather try my luck with her own series, like "Diana" (1972-73) or "Mrs. Bradley" (1998-2000).

She made also tv-remakes of "Witness for the prosecution" & "Rebecca" that weren't too bad & I liked two of her movies: Agatha

Christie's "Evil under the sun" & "Theatre of Blood" with Vincent Price.

    https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001671/

If you can, dig out 'Mother Love'. One of the most genuinely bloody terrifying performances I've ever seen, and, imho, one of *the* great BBC dramas (not quite Tenko but in my top five). Wish the BBC would repeat it again or release it.

Anyway, awful news. The word iconic is much overused these days but Diana Rigg most certainly was. RIP.

Now that the Vera duet is a non starter, if he wants his pop career to continue, I've got some free advice - give Toni Tennile a bell and reform The Captain and Tennile.

She's probably at a loose end now that the original Captain went overboard and would jump at the chance to do that to him one more time.

I don't want to be rude but, even in these days of autotune, judging by his performance on that awful recent record, Capt Tom can't hold a note. His timing's off too.

He won't get a British obituary, but it's not very likely that popular German singer Tony Marshall will survive this year.

He was diagnosed with Diabetes a couple of years ago, went into a coma, lost 35 kilos &  undergoes dialysis three times a week.

Tony Marshall singt in der Geroldsauer Mühle in Baden-Baden bei einem Youtube-Konzert seines Sohnes Marc.

Ooh, he looks rough compared to how he looked only a few years ago. Lost a shocking amount of weight.

There's a Eurovision connection too - he should have represented Germany in 1976 but the song had previously been released, so we got the Siegel-fest 'Sing Sang Song' by the Les Humphries Singers instead.

It looks like Tim Smith (Cardiacs) has left the building.

He gave me his tour pass after I met him at the end of the All About Eve 'Ultraviolet' tour (the Sea Nymphs had been the support). Nice chap.  Sad news.

  9. Sad news if true. I remember her from Channel 4's 'Manhattan Cable' (a few years before Clive James) and she was always hilarious. I also saw her live in Sunderland in 1995(?) - fab, of course, and my friend Mark got a kiss from her which he's never quite lived down.
