Also though their are several people picked like DeHavilland,Prince Phillip,Fidel Castro etc who are must choose picks because of their notability and or historical importance even though they are clearly less likely to die then if replaced on the list by a random celebrity their age who was picked at random. Factoring that in it makes the hitrate pretty impressive this year. I don't really agree that Fidel is less likely to die than a random celeb his age. He stepped down 7 years ago for health-related reasons. He wouldn't be able to get the best quality healthcare available to American celebs. (Yes, Cuban doctors are sought after in poor Latin-American countries like Venezuela, but would they be able to get cutting-edge chemotherapy medications, medical equipment?) And Olivia might be healthier than an average 99 year old, but at that age, she might drop any day.

Ruth Newman is reportedly dead on August 1st. This leaves the 1906 San Francisco earthquake survivor count to William de Monte being the last known survivor. Who the fuck keeps track of that; how did you find it; what the fuck is going on on this big blue marble whilst it spins?,!SC It's called "research" Not answering my question. I don't believe for one second (and it's moot now) that one could enter 'living survivors of the San Francisco earthquake 1906' and that anyone anywhere on the Web had that list. As a goddamn LIBRARIAN and former CORPORATE SPY (er... collector of actionable business intelligence) I think I know a wee bit about 'research'. I also think I know what is simply too obtuse to obtain, like 'living survivors of the San Francisco earthquake 1906'. So again I ask, who the fuck keeps track of that? I doubt the San Francisco Chronicle had a story posted years back listing the few survivors still breathing, but impress me with a link.SC LOL, well he called it research, I call it Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1906_San_Francisco_earthquake#Centennial_commemorations There was a centennial commemoration, where eleven survivors participated, were interviewed and birth data written down somewhere. Naturally, all older than 100. Then we know all of them died and a new guy who was only a few months old at the time is presumed to be the last survivor. Then again we don't know if there was a survivor who didn't wanna come out and might still be alive, but it's unlikely.

Eugh, that's a little gruesome. But I sincerely doubt that she's still able to wriggle around that much. Remember, she had a serious car crash that left her (partially) paralyzed, a stroke, a hip replacement and a leg amputation.

We've got 3 cancer patients (Crowe, Harper, Clive James), at least one of them should die this year. CLL usually kills slowly, Harper has been active til recently and Crowe has the most aggressive disease. So my bet is on him.
-
Well yeah, they "described the surgery as elective", which would suggest that the disease was not malignant (either a benign tumour {e.g. adenoma} or gallstones etc.), but they might have an incentive to lie (to keep him hopeful til the very end, protect his privacy). Only time will tell…
-
Nope that would be a first. Except for all those thousands of years when there was no press, birth certificates, or the popular concept of "records".I beg to differ. The concept of longevity records is at least as old as The Holy Bible. But it would have been quite hard to challenge the record holder.

Go fuck yourself. There are at least 10 more people who "could have" been the 10th hit.Edit: Oops, didn't realize he was on a previous year's list. Still, I don't think it matters. I agree, the guy had a highly treatable form of cancer (Hodgkin's lymphoma), which was in remission at the time of his death (from cardiac arrest). Yeah, he was included in 2007, but he wasn't famous or ill enough to be included for 8 subsequent years, just in case he "might" (with like 10% probability) die that year. Considering the Deathlist has about 7-14 hits each year, that simply isn't good enough.

Yeah, I see, but the article is dated 30 July and quotes deadline.com as its source. The timestamp there is older than that of the report released by ET. http://www.etonline.com/news/169019_valerie_harper_in_a_coma_source/ So more recent reports admit that the situation is unclear: http://www.newsmax.com/t/newsmax/article/664740 And - as I quoted above - the hospital's statement (issued today) is also amiguous...
-
Only if she's just died Well, she was reported to be in a coma, which is not the same as death, but adding the pieces of the puzzle together (incurable brain cancer + felt worse the whole week + said to be in a coma), her prognosis seems pretty bleak. I'd say it's cheating... she has been released now apparently Reports are conflicting, if you take a look at the hospital's statement (released today), it's really ambiguous: http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/valerie-harper-hospitalized-in-maine-before-theater-performance-2015307#ixzz3hUlDyRQm So she is not under "their care" but they didn't say she was sent home. One source, quoted by ET, claims she has been transferred to a different hospital. Another source claims she's been discharged and is resting at home. They don't give any information on her condition, some say she is in a coma, others say she's "resting comfortably". I guess we have to be cautious, but since no one tries to deny that she does have terminal cancer, this episode was quite significant either way.

Her doctor never said anything like "not looking good"; ET attributed that quote to an anonymous source "close to her". That could have been the cleaning lady in the hospital, who saw her unconscious and drooling (if she suffered a seizure, not uncommon for brain cancers). On the other hand, the cause was well-known (she's still under treatment for her cancer) so she was observed for a while and sent home to rest. I guess they couldn't really do much even if they found out that her cancer is progressing, as its type and location restricts their treatment options.

At this point, Valerie Harper has 0 votes. Just for the record.
-
Wow, that guy sounds a bit overly optimistic. Of course, there is nothing surprising in what happened; she was living with terminal brain cancer and was bound to have some problems at some point. Will she ever get back on stage or is it the time for a sweepstake?
-
I'd go with Martin Crowe. His health has reportedly deterriorated since he was last seen in public. He's known to have a terminal illness (double hit lymphoma) that kills 95% of its sufferers within a year (from diagnosis).

No, Estonians are not "Slavs", and are unrelated to them. They are Balts, but they speak a Finnic (or: Fennic) language similar to Finnish and Sami (also known as Lapp) languages. Technically, Slavic languages are closer to English than Estonian, since the former two are Indoeuropean languages. Do Latvians and Lithuanians also speak a Finnic language? What about the so-called " Old Prussians" who lived in what became East Prussia before the Teutonic knights evicted (read: committed genocide against) them? No, Latvian, Lithuanian and Old Prussian are Baltic languages, which are indeed genetically related to Slavic languages (and other Indoeuropean languages) and unrelated to Finnic languages. Estonians are "Baltic people" only in the geopolitical sense (they shared a common history with Latvians and Lithuanians). They are a little similar to Finns, who live in a Nordic country, but are unique among them as they don't speak a North Germanic language (like Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic or Faroese).

I can't believe this either. Why would he boost Mug@be's chances (at the next presidential elections) by meeting him or even taking him seriously? Not only is the Zimbabwean president an opponent of gay rights, he also has a poor human rights record, bad policies, is known for vote rigging etc. But at least he would help the president reduce his travel costs.

I didn't follow Levon Helm's story at the time. However, according to Wikipedia (yeah, not an authoritative source, but still), his wife broke the news (that he was dying) and asked for prayers on the 17th of April. So it wasn't "gut feeling" or "insider information"; they just did their research. But anyways, they wouldn't be very successful @ dead pools.

Bush discharged from hospital. Surgery was not needed, the spinal cord was intact. On the other hand, he looks awful, unlike his wife who looks splendid at 90.

Could Queen Elizardbreath II's grip on the national media be waning at last? Or is this one last act of vengeance from Murdoch before he carks it? This is hilarious stuff. What it really proves again is that Britain (and the world) was lucky that Ed VIII reigned for less than a year... Lizzy was just seven, so she can't be blamed for the gesture, but I'm surprised that her mum was teaching her a nazi salute. Naughty naughty Queen Mum... If I had been a member of the Royal Family, I would have destroyed the original footage ages ago, but definitely no later than 1940. It's so compromising, and it could have damaged the Royal Family's reputation if someone had published it in the early 1940s. Then we would talk about the United Republick...

An English obit was never in doubt, but here's one for those who can't speak Brazilian or use google translate: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/17/alcides-ghiggia-uruguay-maracanazo-dies-88

Wow, even if he looks much younger than his age, they seem to be overly optimitic about his life expectancy. I guess surviving the next three years will be a harder challenge for him than winning the election itself. Well, provided that it's as "fair" as usually. But if he does achieve that feat (which would be bad news for ordinary Zimbabweans and Deathlist Committee members alike), he could break Hastings Banda's incredible record and become the oldest president ever (not just in Africa).
-
I don't believe there are any obit rules for the Death List. Well, there are no obit rules in the sense that not getting an obit would disqualify a hit. On the other hand, one of the few DL rules state that "Candidates must be famous enough such that their death is expected to be reported by the UK media" and the usual interpretation is that borderline cases are best left out (except for Fergie Frederiksen, ofc.).

Today's day in court was cancelled because of the "bad state of health" of Mr. Groening: http://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/prozesstag-im-auschwitz-verfahren-vorzeitig-beendet-oskar-groening-in-schlechtem-gesundheitszustand/11737296.html(link in german, but I bet english articles will appear, since the trial has received a fair bit of attention abroad.) Judges are considering their verdict: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3152324/Prosecutors-demand-3-year-prison-sentence-bookkeeper-Auschwitz-Oskar-Groening-trial-death-300-000-Jews-judges-consider-verdict.html Verdict has fallen: sentenced to 4 years in prison http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33533264 So, most major news agencies will report his death in jail automatically and he's old and frail. Low DDP points, granted, but HPDP and Deathrace gold, maybe. Despite the verdict, he might not spend his final months in jail. He can either appeal the ruling or he might be deemed unfit to go to jail due to his age and general state of health.

There will either be a coup or he leaves power when he dies. I don't see him surviving 2015 unless he decide to become the new zsa zsa Well, he is a bit younger than Zsa Zsa, but more importantly seems a lot healthier as well. If you read that article, you can see that the reason some people are scheming or trying to position themselves is precisely because RM is now the president of the African Union, and is frequently abroad for AU meetings. If he was really that ill, he would stay at home, and would dictate his political will from his deathbed. That being said, I hope you are right and we won't see him in 2016. The world (and especially Zimbabwe) would almost certainly be a better place without him.
