In the US, the appeals processes and clemency pleas could take up to a decade. In Egypt, on the other hand, things might go faster. I'd say Morsi. I was going to say that. Plus one is like 27 the other 87. Not a contestSC I think you are mixing up Morsi and Mubarak... Morsi is just 61 and in good health, but it doesn't even matter if they're gonna hang him in a year or two anyways. Maybe the Yanks should take a page out of ISIS' book and behead Tsarnaev on live TV. I'm sure FOX would be up for it.I guess beheading is getting a bit boring now. The crowds want something new... Burning at the stake perhaps? As an American citizen, he could also be considered a traitor, so he could also be hanged, drawn and quartered. _______ On a more serious note, US daredevil Dean Potter was playing with death for too long... Now death plays with him instead. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32776686

One of those three was Toast who admitted changing his vote two weeks ago. So at most two of you had original votes for BB upon Simon's dying. Any vote that came in after BB's announcement of hospice they wasn't worth the keyboard it were entered from.SC I don't quite agree. I haven't voted for anyone last time (nor here, yet); but I would have had a clear conscience if I had voted on BB King after the announcement. Yeah, changing a vote is kinda cheesy, but voting on someone after an announcement was made might just be a smart move. He didn't claim that he was on his deathbed, or that he will die in a week, just that he was admitted to hospice care. It could have just meant that he was terminal, but he's not the only one on this list. Crowe, Clive James and Woodhead all have terminal cancer and are expected to die pretty soon. The lack of news in Crowe's case is particularly worrying, but I haven't decided whether I want him. I'd be much happier with Mugabe, but unfortunatelly, he's not there yet...

This woman is the biggest deathlist tease. In 2014 she was at deaths door and was a shoe in for the 2015 list then she was feeling much better so she got left off a load of people's DDP teams and now she is saying her time has come. If it is true then good call to the committee for keeping the faith and those of us who replaced her with MTM will hang our heads in shame. Well, I don't know what these people thought, the medical info was there and it was obvious that she couldn't have been cured, despite all her optimism. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1156338-treatment#1 The only hope she had was that she did not have (and as far as I know, does not have) any metastases, in spite of the fact that this type of cancer tends to metastasize (unlike most other brain tumours) and people usually die of the systemic disease. So the doctors might still be able to buy her some time, perhaps another year or more, but she will have to live with cancer (and treatments) for the rest of her life.

The cause wasn't widely reported 'cause he was in hospice care with severe diabetes and his death was kind of expected. So the immediate cause was the series of cerebrovascular accidents with diabetes and high blood pressure as contributing (complicating) factors.

To be honoured at BAFTA TV awards. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-32654937 No new medical information, but the article emphasizes the fact that his leukaemia is terminal and that he has started saying goodbye to his friends/loved ones. Maybe the chemo didn't help him much and is heading out soon? Better watch the awards to find out how frail he looks.

In case anyone had them on their ddp teams, there are also some qualifying obits. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-32679281 Guy was recently sentenced to life for leading a bloody coup in 1980 that helped him become president. Was one of the oldest presidents alive as well.

Activity on these threads is usually based on news, about the candidate, their relatives (fighting for the estate) and friends. If someone dies suddenly, e.g. in a massive stroke or a heart attack, you likely won't see much activity in their threads immediately before their demise. On the other hand, if someone dies after "a long illness" and there are clear signs of their death being imminent, you'd see quite a few posts. I don't think Simon's or Nimoy's threads could be considered empty in the days before their deaths...

Good catch! I haven't seen the article about the pig brothel, but looking at these other posts it's painfully obvious that it's a hoax/faux news site. That outrageous quote from Rockefeller must've rung the bell but the rest of the article wasn't funny enough to alert me. I also have to admit that I wasn't on my guard cause gcreptile and SirCreep already commented on it as if it was serious and that made me lazy enough to ignore the cues.
-
That is terrifying. How could he already spend 6 hearts? Aren't there other people needing those as well? It's the money...How could he spend 6 hearts? Well, the article states he went jogging a week after the first of those operations... His attitude to these transplants might be a little strange as well... It almost sounds like some of these were not even absolutely necessary. And let's not forget the two livers. I kind of hope that something like this could never happen in Europe and the waiting lists for organs are based on need and medical criteria, and not the wealth of the individual. I'm probably too naïve.

Well this is true for the US and Japan, because even if these counties do apply the death penalty, they wanna make it 99.9% sure that no innocent people are getting executed. In order to do this, there are a zillion appeals processes, reviews and hearings so that there could be no reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty and culpable (ie. not insane). I guess there are countries where this process is a little bit shorter, like we could see in Romania in 1989 where the local rulers (Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu) were tried, convicted and executed in 3 days.

Terrorists & Topical Terrorist Targets

Radio Iran claims he's dead. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/isis-leader-abu-bakr-al-baghdadi-reported-dead-by-radio-iran-1498603 I'm not sure this source is reliable, could be a hoax. On the other hand he'd be good deathlist material if he still survives. EDIT: Now I'm 99% sure it's just a hoax. Israeli hospital? Yeah, right! They tended Bin Laden as well, didn't they? -
Guys are you really sure that this isn't an archived post? The link you gave brought me to a post with a timestamp from 2010 and a comment that was 5 years old. So isn't this the same leukaemia ordeal that he already survived?
-
I don't know if he is smart enough to realize that even if the death penalty is brought back, it would not benefit him (since international law prohibits retroactive application of stricter punishments to the disadvantage of the sentenced). Well, if he commits another murder after the death penatly is reintroduced, he could still be executed, but it's extremely unlikely given his age (77) and general state of health. I guess he supports UKIP just because he's dumb and xenophobic.
-
Can't see why he'd be certain to die in the next few months. Just because there is an election? Or just cause he looks frail? (How'd he look at nearly 94?) I know that he had some health troubles in the last few years so I wouldn't be very surprised if he died this summer, but as far as I know, he doesn't have any terminal illnesses, so he could survive this year, and maybe even 2016. The prostate cancer rumours have been around for years. In fact, one of his closest confidants revealed that he had prostate cancer and gave him five years to live back in 2008. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/wikileaks/8740721/Robert-Mugabe-is-dying-of-prostate-cancer-new-WikiLeaks-cables-show.html On the other hand, while autopsy reports revealed that prostate cancer is indeed very common for octo- and nonagenarians, they are not always that dangerous. (The vast majority of those examined had cancerous cells in their prostates, but most of these cases were clinically insignificant and did not contribute to their demise.) And 91 y.o. people having trouble walking is not a rare phenomenon either. But we can still hope that the cancer will eventually spread to his spine and cause him a painful, miserable death.
-
So he has sarcoma that spread to his lungs and spine, and a unique attitude to his treatment plan. Sarcomas are rare indeed, but perhaps he's underestimating the whole concept of modern, evidence based medicine. Unless he takes part in a clinical trial, he will receive some drugs that were tested in multiple phases and approved by the FDA. Sure, chemo has dangerous side effects, but if they get the dose right, he'll be killed by his metastatic cancer and not the chemo itself. Of course, if his cancer has already spread to multiple sites, and it's really aggressive, chemotherapy (alone or even combined with radiotherapy/surgery) wouldn't result in a cure, but nor will the green tea enemas and acupuncture that these type of guys often fancy. Just try bloodletting, it's faster and less painful.

Not sure what Empire Games are but a 51-year old won a marathon?SC LOL good catch. It's a typo. There were no Commonwealth Games in '84, this race was 30 years earlier in '54.

An obit is certainly likely, whether it will qualify him for a DDP hit is a question though. He received these nominations in one of the most obscure categories [documentary short], he only has a short imdb entry and doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. Anyways, the cancer seems to have affected his brain as well - in addition to his pancreas: http://www.virtual-strategy.com/2015/03/18/father-information-age-james-r-messenger-66-diagnosed-terminal-cancer#ixzz3XOJfABvH America is "sinking into tyranny" and China is "reaping the benefits of a new Renaissance"? Wtf is he on about? Which country has a "Great Firewall", "protecting" her citizens from "harmful information" (ie. criticism of her government)? Where would you feel free to criticize your own leaders or organize a demonstration/protest march online without risking a lengthy prison sentence? This guy is a total nutcase.

IMHO, people in their 70s (up to 80) are "too young" to be considered good candidates in the absence of any health (or at least, lifestyle) info. Leonard Cohen is still active, and I didn't hear about any life threatening illness either, so I'd wait until we have some cancer rumours or until he turns 90.
-
Dead. Wow! Of course, the committee wouldn't listen to me and put him on this year's list. You must've known more about him and his condition than what I knew at the time (that he received radiation treatment for skin cancer), but I think it would've been unreasonable to put every major celeb with "skin cancer" on the list. That's not a very helpful term - since it encompasses a range of very different conditions, from almost innocuous, indolent basal cell carcinomas to metastatic melanoma; and I couldn't really find anything more specific on any major news site. EDIT: This is what I read about him in November: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-11-10/-benaud-undergoing-therapy-for-skin-cancer/5879558 Nothing about the cancer being terminal or his family preparing for the worst...

Why couldn't you put "accidentally" killed himself? It's a big difference. Afterall, who hasn't accidentally poured themselves a cup of polonium-210 tea? I was just trying to rescue the difference between time's intellectual aspirations and a shit-brained Chelsea season-ticket-holder who says "well if he 'andled it wrong then be basically killed 'imself dinnie?". Y'know since almost all people immediately associate the phrase "killed himself" with an intentional suicide. If you were to get your head out of your arse long enough, you'd see I was quoting the BBC. If you have a problem with the way its reported, its with them. End of story. I'm so sorry I infringed on your O'Briain- given right to expect to be able to just copy & paste shit headlines without someone complaining, just cos it was your precious Beeb.... If we're gonna set our standards as low as them why bother having an internet at all? This is slightly off-topic, but I wish that every other news site (or newspaper) could meet at least those "low" standards... Kovtun's claim is quite ridiculous even if you consider this an accident (ie. "death by misadventure" instead of suicide). How would someone "accidentally" get their hands on a rare radioactive element like Po-210 without even knowing he is in possession of it? What could be the mysterious thing that he regularly brought with himself and was leaking? That element doesn't really occur naturally in macroscopic quantities and only has niche applications. And the guy even went on to claim that it was "gradually accumulating" in Litvinenko's body, for heaven's sake, he had 200 times the lethal dose in his body, I'd consider that fact to be inconsistent with any kind of gradual, lengthy process.

The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

Again, Sir Creep is not learned on the media of the UK, but goddamit if Pat Summit wouldn't obit no sense in publishing the damned paper. Granted we had this tiff re: Tarkanian a couple months ago and Sir Creep was right, which seemed obvious to him. But she's the greatest NCAA female bb coach ever, what could possibly be the debate?SC The question is whether anyone in Europe really cares that much about college-level female basketball. Yes, NBA is a thing in Europe and you get to watch it live in almost any country, but even WNBA or male college basketball is less interesting for European viewers. So if the matches get basically 0 coverage how would you learn that she was a legend? It's a bit like cricket in the US and continental Europe. Most people there have probably never heard of Sachin Tendulkar, yet he is the single most popular player and #1 sports legend in India. But you can't really appreciate his achievements as an American. You lack the "reference frame" to interpret feats like "the highest number of centuries" when you don't even know how they score in cricket and how many runs are scored by ordinary players. -
That scenario is extremely unlikely since 1.) Neutral experts would have a way or determining the type of nuclear device used, and thus they would be able to tell whether it was likely an efficient, technologically advanced weapon from the US, or a rudimentary design from Iran (if they even had enough material to assemble such a weapon). 2.) Iran doesn't have any nuclear weapons yet, and even the most hawkish Israeli politicians only claim that they could obtain one in about a year or two if they are allowed to continue their nuclear programme. 3.) Civilian casualities in the millions. -> PR disaster It's extremely unlikely that either the U.S. or Israel would use a nuclear device unless there is a direct existential threat. There are several other options that would be more acceptable for everyone (from ground troops to intensified airstrikes + arming the Peshmerga). This is a rare case where even the UN Security Council could agree on a solution, since the Russians and the Chinese would also want the IS wiped out just like the West and Iran.
