    Olivia De Havilland

Pretty weird that they'd wanna honour her just now. Like someone in the talent scouting team came across this interview with her and said: "Oh, Melanie from 'Gone with the Wind' is still here at 101? We could make her a Dame so we'd honour a centenarian in the centenary year of the modern-day honours system." OTOH, at least she deserves it, unlike the likes to David Walliams or Jonathan Ross (like they'd wanna honour every guy they've seen on the telly at least twice, regardless of their individual achievements or moral character.)

    Theresa May

I don't think that there's any cause for panic. The GE results were obviously disappointing for her and the Tories, but she won over the DUP quickly and easily. As long as most EU leaders think that the "4 Freedoms" (free trade, capital flows and free movement of people) are inseparable, her hard Brexit line seems the only reasonable strategy for Britain. And as for her health: At 60, she's younger than she looks and while diabetes might be troublesome at times, it's a managable chronic condition. A PM's job naturally comes with a bit of stress, and that's kind of unavoidable, but as long as she and her doctors look after her health (and keep her blood pressure etc. under control) she'll be fine.

    1. Jimmy Carter

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being as healthy and active at 92 as Jimmy. But then, Christopher Lee had made films and released albums into his 90s and still wouldn't have beaten Ford's record (if he had been a US president). And Bess Truman's record (more than 7 more years) still seems like a long shot for Rosalynn.

I'm gonna be original and go with... Phuket, it's gotta be Christie now.

    General Non School Massacre Thread

That was my first thought, even before the London attacks, just after they announced they would organize it: "You guys are really serious about this?" It's like an "invitation to tender" for terrorist organizations. I bet it'd cost more money to properly secure this event and protect the people there than they could ever hope to raise as revenue.

    Club 27

So you are turning 27 in just two weeks? Congrats! Are you a (somewhat famous) singer or at least musician as well? If not, you could be "safe" – of course you might still die this year, just not as a member. Btw. these earlier rumours were denied by the singer and sources close to her: it seems that she is suffering from liver (and not lung) cancer. Nevertheless, her prognosis still seems rather dismal, since her doctors declared that they are not considering her eligible for liver transplantation, implying that her cancer had already spread beyond the liver. Olivia Newton-John

Sorry for your loss. Regarding the cancer though, I don't think that David Bowie's totally different kind of cancer (liver cancer) is in any way informative for Olivia's case. Yes, having enough money and living in a country where she can access high quality Western health care certainly won't hurt her, but she seems a bit too optimistic about this whole affair ('Just a bit of photon radiation treatment and a hint of a beetroot juice/hemp oil/... and I'll be back in no time').

Mad Hatter has linked some material about metastatic breast cancers and their dismal prognosis + limited treatment options. In short: Most of the time, cancers that have spread so far away from the original site (the sacrum is at the base of the spine) are very hard (in most cases, impossible*) to cure. Even if they remove all apparent/visible tumours, use chemo+radiotherapy etc. the cancer will usually stay/recur/spread and ultimately kill its host. (*Some cancer types [like testicular cancer] can usually be treated successfully even if they spread – but unfortunately, most cancers are considered to be incurable at that point.)

    George Bush Senior

Just see the positive side: you got fresh pix each they to watch how his state of health evolves over time. What I see on it, is that not much have changed since his last photo: we can see the same painful grin and unhealthy purple colour on his face. I'd guess he's still "stable but frail", not in immediate danger, but the next flu/pneumonia could be his last.

Biggest Misses By The Committee 2017

Well, that's mere speculation, but if the family has mentioned a "short but brave battle with cancer", it's possible that his terminal cancer had not been diagnosed before Dec 31. (On the other hand, he was a good deal older than either Rickman or Bowie, so he had a chance to make the DL50 anyways.)

    Leslie Phillips

Actually, just some 11 years ago, there was a Hungarian theatre director (and actor) who pulled such a stunt ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4689692.stm ):

Greta Garbo was a DL success in 1990. https://deathlist.net/lists/1990 And if Swedish surnames are more important than genuine Swedishness: Rehnquist was a DL succes in 2005. https://deathlist.net/lists/2005

    George Bush Senior

He's still living and doesn't have any terminal ailments, so he has a chance, but he's still fairly young at 74 and we're talking about almost two more decades here... Regarding Barbara, I don't really see why so many of you talk about her imminent demise. Sure she looks a bit frail, but not worse than what you expect at an age of almost 92. Bush Sr on the other hand looks awful, painful grin, unhealthy purple cheeks, no muscle tone whatsoever in his legs. He doesn't need much more time to claim the presidential longevity record, but I still wouldn't put any money on it.

    Queen Elizabeth II

That's an interesting take, and yes, she's in a better shape than most nonagenarians, but... I wonder what would happen if she suddenly lost one of her children or her husband of 70 years? Would that sap her of her will to live?

    James Bond 007 (Connery/Moore/Villains etc)

The death notice by his relatives mentioned a "short" but "brave" battle with cancer. Although it was not his first one (he had been treated for skin cancer before). I think a former smoker dying at 89 of cancer is not terribly surprising. Does he count as a DL miss?

    Queen Elizabeth II

I think it could depend on when the succession will actually happen. If the queen happens to live for like ~10 more years and break all longevity records for monarchs, Charles would already be an elderly man (almost 80), and depending on his state of health, might not want to put up with the workload associated with being a monarch. It's also possible, though somewhat unlikely, that he'd predecease his mother (due to a sudden stroke, heart attack or cancer). Regarding the top 10 video btw, item #2 feels far too speculative to me. While Australia could become a republic in the near future (though even that is far from certain), it'd seem unlikely that New Zealand and Canada would immediately follow suit. The real political power in these countries is vested in the PM and the national parliaments anyways, with the governors-general (or similar) being of secondary importance and the Queen(/King) largely confined to a ceremonial role.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Glad you weren't right on this one. The Spanish song was atrociously bad and didn't deserve to be in the final, but at least the juries have rewarded its "ingenuity" with the 0 points it deserved. Anyways, on an actual deadpool-related note, what do you guys think of Salvador Sobral's chances of becoming a hit in the next few years? http://www.dw.com/en/salvador-sobral-of-portugal-wins-2017-eurovision-song-contest/a-38831947 Normally, heart transplant recipients have a 5-10% death rate, which is not high enough for a "normal" DDP candidate, but he could at least fit into some theme teams and could be a lucrative gambit given his age.

    1. Jimmy Carter

Yeah, he kind of has a much better chance now than when metastatic melanoma was found in his brain and liver. But he's still an old man, and a pneumonia or stroke could take him any day. As for the sweepstake, I'd go with 28 December 2017.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Being different is key to winning this contest, perhaps even more so than being "good". Sadly, I didn't understand anything of the Portuguese lyrics, but the singer's comments about disposable music striked me as arrogant. A lot of people watching this show just want to have fun. If I wanted to listen to "music with deepness", I'd watch a televised opera // classical concert on "Mezzo TV".

    29. Linda Nolan

She could easily follow the family tradition started by Bernie of becoming a Deathlist hit provided she doesn't die this year. I'd also look out for their youngest sis, Coleen as she could also have inherited some pretty unlucky genes with all these early cancer deaths in her family.

    Robert Redford

Tabloids do speculate about everything, but... Michael was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in 2010 and was (said to be) in remission since 2011. I'd say that an advanced cancer would've killed him by now if it hadn't been resolved. He's been seen in public many times since (e.g. his daddy's 100th birthday party), and he didn't seem ill at all. Of course, that doesn't guarantee that he won't die of cancer, but AFAIK there's no reason to believe that he has terminal cancer right now.

    Val Kilmer

Early stage head and neck cancer could be cured if it was detected early enough and treated properly. What I don't know is whether he just wanted to keep his fight private or if he really is the kind of religious nutjob (Christian Scientist) that the press reported him to be. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-39769372

    George Bush Senior

The bookies already take May's win for granted and with the advantage that she has right now and taking Corbyn's unpopularity into account, a really huge scandal would be needed to prevent it. Does anyone happen to have pix of May in the company of rentboys, smoking pot or something?

    Charlotte Rae

You'd have to weigh two factors against each other: 1. Cell division is (generally) slower at 90 than 50, so that alone would contribute to a longer survival time; but 2. Nonagenarians typically are less resilient and have more co-morbidities that shorten their expected survival time and might also mean that doctors are not able to pursue an agressive course of treatment (intensive chemotherapy, extensive surgery etc.). The net effect can vary, but for most cancers, age is an adverse prognostic factor.

    Kim Jong-Un

Yeah, but Kim Jong-Un has been playing a madman ever since he had been inaugurated. And the fact that he had some of his adversaries blown apart by an anti-aircraft gun lent some credibility to his strategy.
