  1. Jean Heywood (I missed the notice of her death in September) and Clive James brings my total hits for the year to 14. Still (only just) managing to stay ahead of the committee. Curiously :scratchhead: the committee and I only have 3 hits in common - Herman Wouk, Robert Mugabe and Clive James; that's the wonder and randomness of death for you :axe:.

Most likely a rights issue, as is common with book adaptations.

If so - a simple explanation - but not forthcoming from the Beeb. Indeed if this was so JCJ would have understood such constraints - yet it appears that the reasons were not, are not this simple.

  5. For me the saddest aspect ofJames Cellan Jones' death is that the BBC NEVER gave him an explanation why his production of Sartre's Roads to Freedom trilogy has remained in the BBC vaults and unseen for over 40 years (originally broadcast 1970, repeated 1972, 1977; then silence apart from a showing by the BFI to invited guests a few years ago). He deserved an explanation, indeed the trilogy should have been, and should be, shown on TV, and released on dvd - it is a masterpiece. I have long been angry for this neglect. :smiley_f:

  6. Could/would someone (hello committee!) please enlighten us devoted Deathlisters as to why (according to Deathlist 2019) Herman Wouk continues to live. Oversight? Or is there a deeper systemic problem, and Deathlist has itself passed over the great divide?

  8. Clearly the committee think that they know something that no one else knows - Herman Wouk is alive and well residing in the Death List offices. Either that or the committee have left earth on a trip to the far distant reaches of a black hole.
