Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

3 brilliant gigs in 11 days. Started off with Aussie pink Floyd at the Royal Albert hall. Fair to say they have developed their act a bit since I first saw them 30 odd years ago. Absolutely superb, highlight being pigs (3 kinds) and shine on. Music has got to the stage where a tribute act can sell out the Royal Albert at £70+ a ticket! Next was Beth Hart at the lighthouse Poole. God that woman’s got some chops in her. A really variety of her stuff and a couple of cover well all delivered with passion and power. she went a bit off the setlist, to the stage where she ran into Curfew, so the non existent Encore was probably not what it could have been. Just on the train home from Paul Heaton and Rianne Downey at Eventim Hammersmith. Wow. Rianne is no Jacquie Abbot, but brings a whole new energy to the Set and what a voice. The pair of them had the audience eating out the palm of their hand from the first song. Just one of those great atmosphere gigs I won’t forget in a hurry. Rotterdam for Rianne and Caravan of love for Paul as the last songs showcased just how great they were. Shout out the zutons in support who I’ll definately seek out for a headline show. Next up Sharon Shannon and various guest stars ( Imelda May, Camille O’Sullivan etc) in a tribute night to Shane MacGowan at o2 Shepard’s Bush......although I may slot in John Otway at the half moon Putney if I feel like it on Sunday. -
Damn Godley. Zero to history in a lack of heartbeat.

Saw Teskey brothers at Hammersmith last Friday. Wierd Gig, started really well first five or six numbers but then degenerated into some self indulgent guitar wank and vocal guitar gymnastics in songs that seemed to end many times as they milked the applause to death. Almost felt prog rockish at times. Left before the encore to mop up the blood from my ears bleeding. Each to their own I suppose. Earlier last week I’d seen young singer/song writer Ladybyrd at the Half moon Putney. Quite impressive. Not sure what direction her career will go in, but certainly has a voice on her. On to the brilliant Sam Fish At Koko London next week. 5th time I’ll have seen her and as female blues guitarist and singers go, there ain’t many better. -

Did Wick St festival in Sussex last week, and it was bloody great. Capped (and sold out) at 1800 punters, it was just the right amount. food and drink at local not festival prices like £6 a pint £7 a burger. Punters from kids to a 93 year old doing her first festival, and it was a great friendly rural atmosphere. Main stage. Second stage and a dj tent saw everything from Irish folk through to Reggae, drum and base. Brilliant sets from ELO Encounter, The Veltmans, Rosie Frater Taylor, John Otway, Toploader, and many more, and Don Letts and Jazzy B (soul 2 soul) rounding off each night with superb DJ sets.. Best for me though we're Cuban Brothers who were just bonkers and really got the crowd going. Heaven 17 surprised me with just how good they were. But the Dutty Moonshine Big band were just something else. Impossible to pigeon hole, just look them up. Electro, swing, drum n base, dub, hip hop, samba, reggae type stuff all with a brass band thrown in., The main tent was jumping for them. Look up the website, you'll get a feel. After only about 400 punters in '23' due to various reasons, the organiser deserve major plaudits for a great job done, and roll on 25. -

I was there too. Agree was a great Gig. First time I'd seen him live, and the power might not be there in his voice now, but the craft and delivery was superb and Suzi wow what a voice. Saw Robert Cray at the New theatre last year as well, so the venue only throws up good give for me.. -
Mr Winstone Kodogo IIRC. You have to be of a certain vintage
