Have to say I used to have a quiet chuckle every time the Honours List came out and he wasn't on it...

No obituary yet but it's circulating in the Laurel and Hardy community that Stan's only child, Lois Laurel Hawes, has died aged 89.

Probably just me....
Yeah, just you. I'm wondering what rubber mask he put on to get past St. Peter...

I completely missed that. Didn't see any mention here so assumed it hadn't been picked up.

Didn't make the news over here but Joan Lee, wife of Marvel Comics' Stan for 69 years, died on 6 July.

They appear to have corrected that now, with pictures of Barry Norman, not Barry Cryer,

John will forever be a part of my child hood memories. As I said earlier I hope he is taking Shep for a walk in heaven right now !
Pah, you young whippersnapper. Lesley Judd? She is not fit to lick Valerie Singleton's feet!
But hang on... John Noakes taking Shep for a walk in heaven? Surely Shep went to live on a farm....?

Just now, Davey Jones' Locker said:Chuck Berry would have liked to have filmed that...
Yes, that was the point! You didn't think it was just a random thought, did you?

Maybe not...
More chance of her taking a dump on a glass table while you watch from underneath...
Seriously, happy birthday, Dame Vera!

I wouldn't read too much into that. You know how he hates publicity...

Maybe he'll come back posing as his own twin brother.

Cernan always said that he hated being 'the last man on the Moon' and hoped there would be some new footprints up there someday. Alas, there is no sign of that happening anytime soon.

Ive never watched Star Wars and I never fucking want to.
So there.
Why do people who say things like this always sound as if they're boasting?

NSPCC tape played at his trial
That's the sort of stuff that gets jurors dabbing their eyes
I read somewhere recently he had his hands up the skirts of 12-year-old and 14-year-old girls in the 70s. Basically a serial predator like Saville.
Yeah, he also assaulted a blind woman.
Allegedly he put something in her hand and said 'Can you guess what it is yet?
How does she know it was him?

Ken
No, that's not where East Fife play.

I'm not claiming that the Scottish Premiership is on a par, skillwise, with the English Premier League. Apart from Celtic, most of our SPL teams would struggle in the Championship. Celtic would finish in the top six but wouldn't be guaranteed promotion. It just bugs me that people tend to ignore the Leagues One and Two here. Yes, they have pitifully small crowds but the people who do go are amongst the most loyal supporters in the land - they turn up in the most hideous of weather whereas your average top-flight supporter might decide not to bother going if the opposition aren't very exciting. And while many people in England probably couldn't name the town where East Fife play, I can't tell you a single team from the National League - except maybe Sutton United, because the FA Cup draw show came from there (apart from the actual draw, which was in the BT Tower). So it works both ways.
-
But we're not talking about the Scottish lower leagues. That would be the Highland and Lowland Leagues, which are the equivalent of the National League.
-
Objection - if you're including pub teams from below English League Two, why exclude teams from Scottish League One and Two, who are part of the Scottish Professional Football League, the main national set-up?

Why does the deathlist show the age people will reach on their next birthday (assuming they do)? Kirk Douglas turned 100 less than a month ago, yet the list shows him aged 101. Is it some sort of fate-tempting exercise?
As one of the admins mentioned earlier, the script showing the ages is a bit more simple than what you see on Wikipedia. It just takes the current year (2017) and subtracts the year when he was born (1916) arriving at the figures you see on the front page. It's guaranteed to be accurate at the end of the year (31st of December, 2017); but it doesn't keep track of the exact birthdates (day-month).
There are only fifty of them - it can't be that much of a slog to enter the ages manually, shirley?
Yeah but someone would have to manually update 50 names on 48 different days.
Why would they have to update all the names each time? Only the person whose birthday it is would have to be changed. (Insert adult nappy joke here.)
Not trying to be argumentative; I just feel I'm missing something.

In general the UK doesn't remake US sitcoms; we just show the originals. One time we tried was Brighton Belles, which was a remake of the classic The Golden Girls. The original had Betty White and Estelle Getty; ours had Wendy Craig and the mother out of Bread. Crashed and burned and was taken off air halfway through its run.
