Happy New Year from Staffordshire. I've been to work today so am having a curry, a beer and then going to bed to sleep through. It's been like Dawn of the Dead at work and everyone has been dosing up on strong coffee to get through it.

My mate is a Carlisle fan and yesterday, after a gap of a few years, we were able to revive our annual trip to the Bescot Stadium to watch Carlisle sneak a win with virtually the last kick of the game. As we were sat in the home end I had to sit on him to avoid invoking the ire of the locals, but he was happy enough on the way home afterwards. In contrast to previous visits, the game was reasonably entertaining!!! Same again next season (we missed the port vale game) as I was watching my team instead.

I was born in Derby so I feel it appropriate to enter a team , which I have done.

I voted Labour on a tactical basis, but you could stick a blue rosette on a pig where I live and it would get in. In my midlands constituency the Tory share went up 3 per cent , the liberals bagged 2 , the greens 1 whilst labour lost 6. I think the Lib Dems should pack it in as all they do is to split the anti Tory vote. If they are consigned to the bin we might have a stronger opposition. the current system is flawed though. The Tory share of the vote went up by 1.2 per cent yet they romped home. their pact with the brexit party was the deciding factor. They didn’t win the election, everyone else fucked it up. Bloody idiots!

I think a significant proportion of the population are thick bastards who believe any bollocks they are told by someone with a posh voice who "speaks his mind" ( for some reason that seems to be an endearing aspect of Johnson's character to many). I prefer my politicians to engage their brains before they open their gob. That leaves us with....er... Where I live you can stick a blue rosette on a dustbin and if would get voted in as my MP. There really is no point and the election will be won or lost by the decisions that a few thousand people make in marginal seats across the country. How you can call that democracy I'll never know.

I dong think Musk gives a toss about his reputation. Money and power talks (as we've seen with certain politicians on both sides of the Atlantic)

It was watching the likes of Willis on TV as a young lad that got me into cricket and over the years I developed a deep passion for the sport. Thanks for the memories! RIP .

Kirk Douglas gets my vote

He’s a bit of a throwback to a bygone age where the aristocracy burned the candle at both ends and generally shagged, drank and partied themselves to death whilst doing very little to demonstrate to their subjects that they were actually earning their very significant pay cheque. its just as well for him and his family that the British are a generally placid lot who feed of mis-placed nostalgia.
