Kill or Save: UK No.1-hits of the 90s

Not sure anyone who champions Three Lions should be taking any artistic high ground. -
Savile's career was thankfully pretty much dead by the time I came along, and I've never understood the appeal. Even if he hadn't been a monster, he was creepy and weird, and I just don't understand how that was deemed prime time material for a couple of decades.

Didn't know being a blonde bloke who used to play a boring sport made you a national treasure, but then utter cunts like Cilla have been arbitrarily given that status too, so shouldn't be surprised.

I'll be throwing more than a few points in the direction of Gina G. -
Isn't the show a bit of a zombie now anyway? Can't imagine that many people flock to see Flintoff, the omnipresent McGuinness and the other one in quite the same way as Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Yeah, it's a good song, but I don't get people continually blowing their load over it. -

Idea for a film: Dick Van Dyke needs to retake his driving test at 97. It must not, repeat not, turn into vehicular manslaughter.

Not just a cover, it also contains deadly UB40! -
*Ann Lesley, but as long as she has a pillow and decent upper body strength, who cares?

msc and I previously spoke of our love for Doop when it appeared on TOTP. Hard to overstate how awful it is, especially when presented with a troupe of dancing flapper girls. -

I'd never heard of Toni di Bart until he started appearing on the TOTP repeats on BBC4. The song was very successful but the guy couldn't sing live to save himself. I don't expect Simply Red to get much love here but someone who proved he definitely could sing live was Mick Hucknall. -

Anastacia's mum, Broadway actress Diane Hurley, has just turned 80 and looks great! No idea if she's as prone to illness as her daughter but she looks like she could last a fair bit longer. -

Regarding the 'top 4' thing, the rules as described at the start are contradictory. It says 'From each round 5 songs will enter the last round, the Grand Final, consisting of 25 songs', but then proceeds to state how 4-7 songs from each round go through. 5 ≠ 4-7, and in fact none of the rounds send 5 to the final. I can see that there were more no.1s in the later years of the decade, but giving them extra weighting skews their representation in the final round, and I'm not sure why that's a good thing? The 80s contest just went with 5 from each round, which is fairer to my mind.
