On this day in 1770, a fight broke out on the streets of Boston. Citizens pelted snowballs and oyster shells at British officers as tensions grew. One of the soldiers mistakenly heard "fire" and shot into the crowd that had gathered. 5 civilians were killed on that fateful night: Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, James Caldwell, Crispus Attucks, and Patrick Carr. This famous engraving by Paul Revere made sure that revolution was imminent.
