Still alive and kicking, well into his 103rd year. Everyone in his family has croaked, so it definitely looks like Lucky Herman was first in the queue when the DNA was handed out. Good for him, I say.

Well, the films 'Paths of Glory' and 'Spartacus' were essentially 'star vehicles' for Kirk Douglas, who had almost full control of the entire projects and walked away with the lion's share of the loot. Stanley Kubrick was largely a puppet 'director' in those cases, although he certainly took a major role in the cinematography. SK made only a dozen movies in his career, and never really became a 'team player'. Only '2001: A Space Odyssey' is widely remembered now. Stanley died shortly after completing the first edit of the truly awful 'Eyes Wide Shut' in 1999. I can't say he's missed.
