I don't know how anyone remembers anything that happens around here long enough to nominate anything.

At the moment that's 26 things. And at least 20 halfway things. And a bunch of pathetic, sorry assed, slimy politicians - most of whom have full time professional protection - offering their worthless thoughts and prayers. You know, those wonderfully effective things that do such an amazing job stopping this bullshit time and time again. The same thoughts and prayers that stopped 20 elementary school children from being slaughtered and concert goers from being picked off like fish in a barrel and a bunch of people in a nightclub being executed and an eight month old from being annihilated by a guy who was going out with an Uzi to hunt humans. I wish I couldn't go on. I can, but I won't. More guns and prayers - that's working so fucking well, isn't it? I used to think that my countrymen who weren't angry just weren't paying attention. Now I think they are blind.

T is a schedule IV drug over here - low potential for abuse/dependence. Still a controlled substance with prescribing restrictions, but not along the lines of an OxyContin or Dilaudid. T has a wicked side effect/withdrawal profile. It lowers the seizure threshold and can cause serotonin syndrome, which I can tell you from personal experience completely sucks. I think that if I was going to choose a drug to abuse this would not be the one. It's not as addictive as others and it has more negative effects than anything remotely approaching positive. Go find a real opiate or give up on being a drug addict. T ain't worth it. -

You can philosophize yourself into a corner where someone will find you drooling and rocking back and forth while humming nursery songs to yourself. If you want to watch House of Cards or Pulp Fiction or The Pianist or read Mein Kampf or Bleak House or listen to the Symphonie Fantastique, fine. Do so. People are complicated. Very few are irredeemable. Accept the beauty with the ugliness. Both have something to teach us.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/10/30/paul-manafort-what-we-know-he-did-and-why-he-might-have-been-ensnared-by-the-investigation/ In March 2016, as Donald Trump was trying to ensure his victory in the Republican nomination fight, he hired Manafort to help corral delegates for the upcoming convention. At the time, you may remember, there was a lot of talk about whether or not Republican delegates pledged to Trump would hold steady as the convention unfolded. Manafort had helped Ford with that task in 1976, fending off a challenge from Reagan. The recommendation to hire Manafort came from Trump’s longtime ally Roger Stone, who’d formed a lobbying firm with Manafort after the 1980 election. Manafort accepted a position with the Trump campaign for no salary. Manafort’s questionable business associations were well known, but, at the time, Trump was still having trouble attracting top-tier Republican staffers who were skeptical that Trump was a viable candidate. Once on the campaign, he butted heads with campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. In late June, Trump’s children helped convince him to oust Lewandowski and elevate Manafort, who became campaign chairman. He held that senior position with the campaign until August. On the day he resigned, former House speaker Newt Gingrich told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that “nobody should underestimate how much Paul Manafort did to really help get this campaign to where it is right now.”

Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. It's like the practice for the SAT itself, which is required for admission to any college or university worth attending in the US. The scores are also used to award National Merit Scholarships. The car is a Passat. -
Thank you. Thank you very much. You put an extraneous "r" in there, by the way.

I don't necessarily agree that Flake was in that much danger - it's too early to depend on polls and the power of the Republican machine can't be easily discounted. Disliked by his party, yes, but with McCain's health and the insanity of the only other current option I doubt they would have let him flounder. The idea of the outsider is being sorely tested by Trump. I can't count the number of times I have seen incumbents pull from behind when the political will hit the wheel even without an idiot president. Nevertheless, he took himself out, and I choose to believe that at least 1/8 of what he said was heartfelt. The midterms will be interesting. Unfortunately neither of my senators is in serious danger. I need to win the lottery, buy an island and set myself up as dictator for life.

And then there's regifting. And degifting. Unfortunately I bring the sad tidings that "gift" has been a verb for many, many years. Like 400, according to Merriam-Webster. In the OED: VERB [WITH OBJECT] Give (something) as a gift, especially formally or as a donation or bequest. ‘the company gifted 2,999 shares to a charity’ SYNONYMS present, give, bestow, confer, donate, contribute, endow, award, accord, grant pledge, vouchsafe, furnish, bequeath, hand over, turn over, make over, leave, will

I'm not moaning about anything. Why do you ask?

Sorry. I have to be that person. Can't help myself. Probably something to do with being an American.

McCain has been a big deal in the US in one way or another since 1973.
