If he wasn't the oldest remaining survivor and his significance only seemed to come from that, my judgement may be different (e.g. I would likely have accepted both of these men who died in 2007 and 2000 as a point in this competition, but I don't think they would have even been picked or known about since they were not significant figures) I choose not to award the points for the longest lasting survivor of a historical event, who doesn't seem to be a significant figure other than his longevity. I have tried to make this decision in good faith and have done many minutes of googling in order to consider the fame of his book and his post WW2 life. If your first sub dies, feel free to remind us and they may count instead. Once again, the relevant rule/guideline, which I bolded in the first post of this forum: Candidates cannot be famous solely for the fact they are likely to die imminently - this includes people famous only for their advanced age.

"Last survivor" Is there anything other than his longevity that makes him significant? Were others on the Arizona famous if they lived half as long? If I see a justified response to my concerns I will award the point.

He was there for a noteworthy event and war and write a book. His wikipedia page seemed to have been made only in December 2023. I'm leaning towards no on the point. Could I please hear an argument for him being otherwise famous, the popularity of his book, or anything else that should be taken into consideration in awarding a point? A reminder of the criteria I usually look at: Are they likely to obit in a major newspaper? Are they a well known celebrity?
