I suspect wishing to oppose this bill was one of the reasons she carried on. Especially given her apparent condition.

The one saving grace of deaths like these is that it introduces you to bands you'd been meaning to listen to for years, but had not yet got around to. The Olivia Tremor Control fall firmly within that category.

Appears as though Alastair Down has passed away. Glad he got to see the Press Room at Cheltenham named in his honour just last week.

New album came out on Friday. Notably, there's no tour announced. 2 North American gigs but nothing more yet. The album (I'm mid listen here, so maybe jumping the gun) suggests she's absolutely a runner for teams next year.

Reference was made to Peter Chapple-Hyam the other day "ongoing health challenges" or something to that effect.

General Election 2024?
nantonian2013 replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The Exit Poll methodology is based upon changes in vote share from previous elections. Entirely possible they will have Richmond already in the sample, but they try and keep the individual polling stations the same from election to election. I don't think they will add more polling stations specifically because it's Sunak's constituency. -
I know people who applied for this and it never arrived, despite applying before the deadline. Much like the postal ballots in Scotland and elsewhere it has been a complete debacle. You can apply for an emergency proxy vote, but it's a bit of a faff and some people would prefer the ritual of going themselves to the polling station for a myriad of reasons.

General Election 2024?
nantonian2013 replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I'm hoping the bleak picture for the Conservatives nationally will mean they will drift out to better prices in Leicester East and the Scottish seats. Though I abhor any Conservative seats in the next election, where there is a bet there is a bet.... -
General Election 2024?

4(!) different Independents in my constituency. Will be disappointed if none of them are complete nutters. -
I'm sceptical she has as much of a personal vote in her constituency as Corbyn might.

Stefano Cherchi succumbed to his injuries. Most known for his association with the Marco Botti and Amy Murphy stables in Britain and he appeared to have a promising future. In the race immediately prior to his fall he'd won on a 60-1 shot which shows how cruel this great sport can be.

Most of the remaining members of the 1974 Dutch World Cup squad pictured (yesterday I'm pretty sure). Johnny Rep the only living absentee.

I meant to post this several weeks ago, but forgot. Pat Murphy has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer. He trains in Lambourn, doesn't have a battalion of runners but is a Welsh National winning trainer as the article notes (just as well, as he would have been a possible Pointless answer for even the most diehard racing anorak). Will obit in the Post anyhow. He turned 66 this week.

It was very sporting of connections to give her a go in Europe, admittedly at the twilight of her career. A sad loss. Her Melbourne Cup win was really impressive, even if the European contingent was severely limited that year (I can't recall whether due to covid, or Racing Victoria's onerous and silly veterinary checks).

Possibly, but I wouldn't be completely certain that Labour pick it up. It's a very White Working Class seat with a strong military background. It's difficult to say with Mercer as he's quite divisive, but possible he gets a better than average incumbency bonus. I can see a scenario where Labour get a majority of say 40/50 and this seat just about holds on for the Tories, whereas less marginal targets may perish. It all depends on where you think Labour's swing is going to come from, is it likely to be greater or lesser in amongst demographic groups which have been trending away from them since at least 2010? Might well be big enough swing to make the distinction a moot one in Mercer's case but it is dangerous to call an election this far out (2017 anyone?).

One of the first elections I have a vivid memory of (I was a very nerdy 11 year old, whereupon he was elected as Cambs' inaugaral Police & Crime Commissioner). I doubt we will ever see a Conservative MP in Luton in my lifetime (unless we switch to STV and it gets amalgamated with various parts of Bedfordshire - and this assumes the persistence of a "Conservative" party in the UK after the forthcoming general election).

You'd make Player about the best bet of any octogenarian male still alive to reach 100 though. He's surely fav to outlive Nicklaus at any rate. -
Nigel Twiston-Davies' assistant Richard Bevis is in an induced coma following a farming accident. His brother is also a small trainer up in Cheshire, on initial glance I thought the article might be about him.

2 stallion deaths over the past week Speightstown at 25 and Dandy Man at 20. Speightstown will continue to have a decent legacy in the states, as he's got several sons at stud.

Callaghan is most famous for training Danehill Dancer who has become very influential as a stallion (albeit not as influential as his father - Danehill). His training career was before my time, but seemed he actually did better in the mid 2000s after a blip at the end of the 1990s. There would be definite theme team potential if someone knew the precise composition of various Suffolk nursing homes, albeit most would be Hares obits rather than DDP material.
