Stanley Schumacher, a former Speaker of the Alberta Legislature, has died. He was 87. Schumacher was a federal Canadian politician as a member of the Progressive Conservative party from 1968 to 1979. He stepped aside in '79 to allow party leader Joe Clark to run. Clark won his seat and became Prime Minister. Schumache ran provincially in 1986, winning his seat and serving as an MLA until 1997.
