Christ, we are not back to this again are we? Look at Wannamaker's picture posted earlier - look familiar?

According to this caption, this is Bob Barker at the 34th Daytime Emmy awards. Bob may only have one suit, but I am guessing that those two lovely ladies have more than 1 dress, so it is definitely the same awards ceremony as what you posted from. Which was in 2007. Which is therefore the same awards ceremony that Toast posted a picture from already.. Cant accept it, I'm afraid

    The Joker's Dead Pool 2023

I will definitely accept that, as I am fairly certain it is a different year to those posted previously. However, I am also almost certain it is from 1995, not 1982. I am guessing you got it from USmagazine.com where they have that picture beside the section on him winning an Emmy in 1982. However they have just inserted random pictures into that article, regardless of the timeline.

    HARE'S DEATH POOL 2023

Not many hits to reports since the last update, all of 9 days ago. However, at this time of year the hits tend to get more significant as the points rise, as this weeks update illustrates. 18th August: Al Quie 21st August: Abe Jacobs 26th August: Bob Barker Bob Barkers demise is obviously the big one here, being selected by 13 players, enough for a place on the ZZZ Boring Predictable Team. Most significantly, he was a hit for @TheSpinosauruswho now takes the lead. @Thatcherwas only in the lead for 10 days this time, and now drops down to second place. Three more players cross the 1000 point barrier, with last years champion @Death Impendslurking ominously in 5th place with a Joker still to play. However no-one is running away with it, and there is plenty of scope for a bolter from the pack over the coming month or two. These are the players over 1000 points. Full updated leaderboard, as always, is on page 1. The Spinosaurus (1426 points) 7 hits [Alan Arkin, Bob Barker, Constantine, Horst-Dieter Hottges*, John Devitt, Michael Parkinson, Tony Bennett] Thatcher (1253 points) 8 hits [Federico Bahamontes, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Gina Lollobrigida, Milan Kundera Rolf Harris*, Ted Kaczynski, Tony Bennett] WEP (1204 points) 7 hits [Augie Nieto, George Alagiah*, Jango Edwards, Mutulu Shakur, Ralf Harris, Teresa Taylor, Tim Lobinger] The Unknown Man (1130 points) 6 hits [Bob Barker, George Alagiah*, Gianluca Vialli, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ted Kaczynski] Death Impends (1128 points) 8 hits [Bert I Gordon, Billy Graham, Bob Barker, Ed Ames, Francoise Gilot, Jimmy Weldon, Lucille Randon, Milan Kundera] Wannamaker (1051 points) 9 hits [Bob Barker, Frank McGarvey, George Alagiah, King Constantine, Pervez Musharraf, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Ted Kaczynski]

My extensive research suggests that this is from the 34th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2007. These Emmy photos are going to be difficult to assess, because similar to Tony Bennett, Bob Barker appears to be wearing the same suit with the same red handkerchief in the pocket at all of the Emmy ceremonies! And you can't tell by the look of his face, as the older he got, the younger he looked! For example, this is Bob receiving a 1996 Daytime Emmy award.

Let lots of other sources be your friend instead. It's really not difficult to find information on the origin of the gris-gris (or gri-gri) as an amulet or charm originally from Islamic healers, then absorbed into African culture, and from there via slaves to the south of America. It's quite interesting to read about it, if actually reading about stuff is your thing. Apparently it is not all about cursing someone, although that it is what it came to be used at in voodoo. It is also widely used as a protective charm and is (or at least was) used in parts of Africa as a contraceptive. Now that Nick Hitchon has gotten a QO, I can stop sulking and bring you an update. Not many popular hits, but there were a few important ones. These are who I have since the last update: 23rd July: Nick Hitchon 8th August: Federico Bahamontes 8th August: Yulia Borisova 9th August: Doreen Mantle 17th August: John Devitt 17th August: Michael Parkinson 18th August: James L. Buckley With the Bahamontes hit, @Thatcherretakes the lead that @WEPheld for a full 4 days. WEP drops down to second, just ahead of @TheSpinosauruswho becomes the third player to pass the 1000 point mark. Despite their worries, with only 6 hits down, they have plenty of scope to rack up scores as the year progresses. @TQRand I both enter the top 10, which is listed below. At the bottom of the pile, Parkie gives @Bibliogryphontheir first hit of the game, leaving only @chickencobra, @DeathByArsenicand @Pedro67 still with nul-points. Full scoreboard is on page 1, let me know if I missed anyone, Thatcher (1253 points) 8 hits [Federico Bahamontes, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Gina Lollobrigida, Milan Kundera Rolf Harris*, Ted Kaczynski, Tony Bennett] WEP (1204 points) 7 hits [Augie Nieto, George Alagiah*, Jango Edwards, Mutulu Shakur, Ralf Harris, Teresa Taylor, Tim Lobinger] TheSpinosaurus (1189 points) 6 hits [Alan Arkin, King Constantine, Horst-Dieter Hottges*, John Devitt, Michael Parkinson, Tony Bennett] Gcreptile (999 points) 8 hits [Burt Bacharach, Daniel N Paul, Frederic Forrest, George Alagiah, Grant Turner, Haris Ibrahim, Menahem Pressler, William Consovoy] The Unknown Man (893 points) 5 hits [George Alagiah*, Gianluca Vialli, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ted Kaczynski] Death Impends (891 points) 7 hits [Bert I Gordon, Billy Graham, Ed Ames, Francoise Gilot, Jimmy Weldon, Lucille Randon, Milan Kundera] Toast (857 points) 9 hits [Fay Weldon, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Just Fontaine, King Constantine, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Winnie Ewing] Arghton (856 points) 9 hits [Carmen Sevilla, Emlain Kabua, George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Ivan Silayev*, Otis Taylor, Rafiq Nishonov, Tim Lobinger, Winnie Ewing) An Fear Beag (846 points) 8 hits [George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Lucille Randon, Mary Quant, Nick Hitchon, Nigel Lawson, Ryiuchi Sakamoto, Tim Keller] TQR (839 points) 5 hits [George Alagiah, Harry Belafonte, Michael Parkinson, Nigel Lawson, Tony Bennett]

Fair play to him. It can't have been easy doing a somersault in the tuck position with an oxygen tank strapped to his back! I bet it made a hell of a splash on entry!.

I'll tell you what's wrong with it. It didn't come up on my google search, that's what bloody wrong with it. Search "Nick Hitchon" - nothing Search "Nick Hitchon obituary" - nothing Search "Nick Hitchon died" - up it comes I have no idea how Google algorithms work (and please for the love of God, don't try to explain it to me), but it would want to get its bloody act together. Do Google not realise that it's hard enough running a deadpool without this bullshit going on (and thanks for the link - I'm still very surprised that he hasn't gotten more than that)

Apologies for that Diego, and thank you for letting me know. I had your correct score on my spreadsheet, but for some reason I did not transfer it over to the scoreboard. The corrected scoreboard is on page 1, and this is your little piece of it: Diego (363 points) 5 hits [Felix Sienra, Gianluca Vialli, King Constantine, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris]

Rise and shine, happy dead-poolers - it's your Sunday morning update! Just what you need to start off The Lords Day - a update on people he didn't care enough about to save. And it's another popular one, George Alagiah, selected by all but 4 teams. Only @Gooseberry Crumble (naturally), @Great Uncle Bulgaria, Mrs @Pedro67 (has she really never heard of Alagiah and @tracy (fair enough - he wasn't born in the 1920s ) failed to pick the ex-newsreader. For someone who was a very public figure and who received numerous awards, pictures of this were surprisingly hard to come by, with only 3 players scoring a picture bonus. And so we move on to the man with one suit, Tony Bennett. Only picked by 8 players in this pool, he was more popular in the DDP, giving him a bonus for being Drop 40, and also popular with The Committee, giving him the DL Alumnus bonus. Sadly for his backers in this pool, he was also quite fond both of himself, giving us a -3 point "bonus" for multiple autobiographies, and of wives for which he gets -2 for his 2 remarriages. The upshot is a measly 3 points on offer. TONY BENNETT +2 Base Point +2 Drop 40 +2 Deathlist Alumnus +2 (Hidden Bonus No. 6: "+2 if the picks Wikipedia page has a “Personal Life” section") -3 (Hidden Bonus No. 10: " -2 if the pick has written an autobiography. -3 if they have written more than 1") -2 (Hidden Bonus No. 11: "-1for each time a pick has remarried") +3 TOTAL POINTS Hits for: Book (Bonus +1 Picture posted) Liz Lemon (Bonus +1 Picture posted) Mrs Pedro (Bonus +1 Hits in order) The Unknown Man Toast (Bonus +1 Picture posted) TQR (Bonus +2 Picture posted) Tracey (Wildcard) ThereWillBeDeaths7 The only person to have Bennett as a wildcard was @tracy for only their fourth hit of the game. The first three were Ben Ferencz, Al Jaffee and Milan Kundera and do you know what those four have in common? Yep, they were all born in the 1920's, meaning a 4 point deduction, doubled for the wildcard! Its like deja-vu, all over again. The result is a score of -2 for their Tony Bennett hit @ThereWillBeDeaths7follows up their Kundera deduction with a Bennett hit, giving them a -3 "bonus" and a score of 0 for the hit @Book, @The Unknown Manand @Toastalso followed up their Kundera hit with a Bennett one, giving all three a -2 "bonus" for hits born in the same decade. Mrs @Pedro67 gets her second hit of the game, but remains in second from last position, gazing upwards at @Pedro67, but with @Gooseberry Crumbleperched beneath her. The Joker's Dead Pool 2023

An update was promised, and an update you shall get, one death at a time. First up, we have the passing of literary genius Milan Kundera. I did actually read The Unbearable Lightness of Being when I was younger, and it made about as much sense as the scoring system of this pool!. Probably took me about as long to read it as it does to update the pool and all. I have not managed to discover who attempted to cheat the scoring system by adding a "Personal Life" section to Kundera's Wikipedia page after his death, but it goes without saying that no bonus points will be given for that one. I have now gone through the Wikipedia pages of all remaining picks and noted who has a "Personal Life" section or not (there's 2 hours of my life I won't be getting back!), so whoever was trying it on the last time, I am watching out for you MILAN KUNDERA +2 Base Point +2 Deathlist Alumnus +2 (Hidden Bonus No. 5: +2 if pick is the only DDP pick to die on that day +3 (Hidden Bonus no 8: " +3 if they were born in a country that does not now exist" -1 (Hidden Bonus No. 11: "-1for each time a pick has remarried") +8 TOTAL POINTS Hits for: Bibliogryphon (Wildcard) Book Captain Chorizo (Bonus +1 Position 21 on list) Funeralopolis (Bonus +1 Position 15 on list) Gcreptile (Bonus +2 Picture posted) MSC The Old Lady (Bonus +1 Position 16 on list) The Unknown Man (Bonus +1 Position 26 on list) (Breaks run of hits in order) Toast Tracey (Wildcard) ThereWillBeDeaths7 (Bonus +1 Position 26 on list) Wannamaker Despite Kundera receiving many awards, only 1 photo seems to exist of him actually accepting one, preferring to send his translators in his place. That translates into 2 bonus points for @gcreptilewho increases their lead again at the top of the table. @Bookfittingly uses Kundera to rise into second place, while @Bibliogryphon had Kundera as a wildcard to make a leap up the table. The other person to have Kundera as a wildcard was @tracy for only their third hit of the game. The first two were Ben Ferencz and Al Jaffee, and do you know what those three have in common? Yep, they were all born in the 1920's, meaning a 3 point deduction, doubled for the wildcard! @ThereWillBeDeaths7last had a hit with Frank Field (born 1923), giving a 2 point deduction. HARE'S DEATH POOL 2023

Bit of a QO dilemma. My own pick Nick Hitchon died on 23rd July, but somewhat surprisingly (to me at least), there has been very little in terms of obits. The best I can come up with is this: Remembering Professor William “Nick” Hitchon - College of Engineering - University of Wisconsin-Madison The obit rules for this pool states that: "4. Social media posts, personal blogs etc do not count. " However that is not a personal blog - it the College of Engineering blog. So does it count? As is my wont in these situations, my instinct is to wait and see if anything better shows up, therefore putting off actually making a decision. Were it another players pick, I would probably allow it, but as I have an obvious conflict of interest, I will wait for now.

    HARE'S DEATH POOL 2023

It would appear that there have been a couple of quite significant deaths over the past week, so lets bring the pool bang up to date. These are the names I have - let me know if I have missed anyone: 23rd July: Inga Swenson 4th August: Jango Edwards 5th August: Haris Ibrahim The death of much-loved clown (an oxymoron, surely) Jango Edwards means that we have a new leader, as @WEPpasses the 1000 point barrier and into the lead. @gcreptile's selection of Ibrahim puts them on 999, the number of the upside-down beast, good enough for a third place. Now if only someone would notice Steve Woodmore was dead. The top 5 is as follows. full scoreboard on page 1. WEP (1204 points) 7 hits [Augie Nieto, George Alagiah*, Jango Edwards, Mutulu Shakur, Ralf Harris, Teresa Taylor, Tim Lobinger] Thatcher (1034 points) 7 hits [George Alagiah, Gianluca Vialli, Gina Lollobrigida, Milan Kundera Rolf Harris*, Ted Kaczynski, Tony Bennett] Gcreptile (999 points) 8 hits [Burt Bacharach, Daniel N Paul, Frederic Forrest, George Alagiah, Grant Turner, Haris Ibrahim, Menahem Pressler, William Consovoy] The Unknown Man (893 points) 5 hits [George Alagiah*, Gianluca Vialli, Milan Kundera, Rolf Harris, Ted Kaczynski] Death Impends (891 points) 7 hits [Bert I Gordon, Billy Graham, Ed Ames, Francoise Gilot, Jimmy Weldon, Lucille Randon, Milan Kundera]
