She has gotten a couple of mentions on tomorrow’s front pages which means she certainly had the status to be included. Maybe next year the list will include Sophia Loren?(Who as a mistress of Cary Grant would provide a connection to the person’s whose death trigged the list.)

The article implies that was the case.

Its a very rare type of blood cancer called Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinaemia. He had chemo a couple of years ago and it went into remission but now it’s back. He hasn’t yet announced his retirement at the next election

Just now, Lafaucheuse said:Isn’t the German paedophile (Bruckner or something like that ?) the main suspect for it ?
I tried John Cannan in the AO pool but he wasn’t accepted. I can see him being in several DDP thème though
He is but I’m not entirely convinced of his guilt.

The police fingered John Cannan for it. The CPS disagreed but the police have effectively closed the case. There is no evidence in the public domain to connect Cannan to Suzy.
I would like to know that as well.
I wonder if anyone picked John Cannan for any pools as apparently he is receiving palliative care.
I would also like to know what really happened to Madeleine McCann. And what happened to Lord Lucan.

Quite surprising someone with a life limiting condition for years didn’t get one single team to pick him.

Just now, Thatcher said:Brian Tufano, British cinematographer who worked on Trainspotting and Billy Elliot amongst others, reportedly dead.

She must have been interviewed from her hospital bed then as apparently she was on Italian TV in November,

Accepted now the Italian press are reporting it.

After Princess Margaret the only other celebrity death I can clearly remember from 2002 is the Queen Mum (I have a vague recollection of Spike Milligan dying) and the only 2003 celebrity death I remember is Bob Hope and for 2004 Ronald Reagan and Howard Keel. It’s only from 2005 onwards I remember more.

2 minutes ago, msc said:Keep in mind the DDP missed Roy Rogers death because Iain didn't see that nights BBC news. These things were more easily missed in the days before everyone had home internet.
I managed to miss all news about the Cumbria shootings in 2009 until 9pm that evening despite being online most of the day.
John Thaw was a DDP hit for a team full of punts and features the majority of their survivors still around today.

John Thaw was missed in 2002 but him dying so quickly was a huge shock at the time. Was talking years left weeks before.
On the DDP archive there is a link to a chat where someone says she announced it had spread to her bones( in other words terminal) in August 1998. I was only a toddler then so I can’t remember. The first death I remember is Princess Margaret. ( I did react as a baby to Princess Diana’s death but I don’t remember it.)

Interesting in 2004 Lesley Ball, wife of Alan, was a pick but never got a Q/O. Now a days such a pick, wife of a famous sports person, would not be allowed but would have a much higher chance of obiting.
I wonder how many people have been double misses for both the DDP and the main list. Anne Haddy is one I noticed looking at the old archives.

Maybe Dusty Springfield for 1999 as she was reported terminally Ill and the DDP records show that was known enough for several teams to pick her.
