I have said this before but Republicans need to start having the conversation now about the future of the monarchy because their voices will be drowned out in an orgy of nationalistic eulogising when the Queen dies

No, the Queen will die, there will be a period of mourning and reminiscence and then after a few months the first questions will start

When are we going to start an abdication sweep stake?

I’ve always thought that her comments on the matter have perhaps been taken too literally. One could argue that she has already served her whole life.

Abdicating at 95 after a 70 year reign is also a whole different kettle of fish to abdicating after 11 months for some tart…

If she reaches age 98 but doesnt beat the Reign duration record of French King Louis the ca. 10-15th, then I'll eat my chair

Seems unlikely as he is seen as maybe too divisive to get enough people to elect him. Plus i suspect they Will be concerns about his age and health.

Well, the Italian President is quite frequently someone thats really old. Napolitano was elected at age 81 and ruled till age 90.

    A “shame”?!

Can I remind you they’re a tyrannical regime with millions of their citizens in concentration camps, starving to death or being subjected to the cruelest forms of torture?

woulda been interesting to see Kim Jong Un have a ceremony for him at his 100th, thats all. Im always annoyed when 99 year old people die.

If that ever happens to me, I will have the doctors keep me on life support by any means till one day after my 100th.

That'll burn all the inheritance money for my children, but at least it'll be for a good cause.

You have quite an odd fixation about him.

I replied you many times, but let me reply again:

1)He was seen in public in 2015, then 93, and reportedly attended some Supreme Assembly sessions until 2018, effectively retiring in 2019. Why should a man in his late 90s fall from grace so much he does not even get a wreath?

2)Normally a congratulatory message will be sent for his 100 birthday, which is in 2022, though not exactly known when. Still, It would be the first cadre to get to 100, so a completely new situation, and I would not be sure about how It would be handled.

3)The South Korean minister of unification updates their list of NK cadres each year. For example they confirmed long-fallen from grace Kim Song-ae died in 2014. A death date for Kim Yong-ju would be sorted quite readily even in absence of official obits.

5)In the case he will not be proven to be either dead or alive, I'd consider him certainly dead past 105-106. For wiki It Will be 110, I think.

No reason to worry, he will get his wreath "relatively" soon.

Thanks for replying again. Yeah, I am always itchy when I see people on the "oldest state leader list" who might be dead cuz that would make the list inaccurate especially when they're in a top spot. -_-

So as reported elsewhere, Ri Yong-suk has prematurely died at 105.

In 2015 there were five remaining "anti-Japanese" war veterans in the country: Ri Ul-sol, Kim Chol-man, Hwang Sun-hui, Pak Kyong-suk and Ri Yong-suk.

Ri Ul-sol died of lung cancer in 2015, at 94. Kim Chol-man died of bladder cancer in 2018, aged 98. Hwang Sun-hui died of pneumonia in 2020 at 100, Pak Kyong-suk died in 2020 at 99 and now Ri Yong-suk is finally dead at 105. It took six years, but it'a clean sheet now.

Oldest undisputed cadre in the country is 99-year old Kim Yong-ju, who was officially studying in Russia during the patriotic struggle, but unofficially was a translator and a spy for the Japanese. A fact that quote hindered his career.

Do you think that the NK Government will acknowledge Kim Yong-Ju's 100th Birthday, or will we just have to forever wait for the confirmation of his death that may never come?

  7. https://www.voanews.com/a/cameroon-paul-biya-marks-39-years-in-power/6302673.html

Paul Biya, Prime Minister (1975-82) and President since 1982 has his supporters seemingly move for another term for him when his current term ends in 2025. He will be 92 years old then and running for a 7-year term.

Seems like a Mugabe parallel to me. He also has no clear successor so the army might step in (theres also a Ethnic Civil War going on so they have some power already so the army has the national security excuse).

Mugabe was also couped a year before he wanted to go for yet another term, so Paul Biya may be someone to watch in the next few years.

No real reason to be put in the deathlist just because she is " starting to age ".

    She ages slowly and steadily.

If nothing more comes out until the end of the year I don't think that there is a big probability of death in 2022.

Friendly reminder of how quick decline can happen.

It’s not possible for the throne to pass immediately to the second in line.

Charles becomes King at the very instant of his mother’s death. The instant. The only ceremony involved is her doctor pronouncing her dead.

He can refuse the throne right?

Different monarchy of course, but I remember in Russia in 1917, when the tsar abdicated his son and the Grand Duke Michael were the successors but they both refused the throne which effectively ended the monarchy in that case but would just pass the title to the next in the UK's case.
