People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

I only really knew about David Frankham from one of his other roles, the rest were pretty unknown to me because I just don't know much about 1950's Disney. That being said asides from maybe Frankham, none of the names are immediate DL potential as they all appear very well in the online convention I mentioned.

On this day 40 years ago, American race car driver Gordon Smiley died, aged 36 in an extremely violent crash in qualifying for the 1982 Indy 500. So Smiley had been known as an arrogant driver and a general prick, who was way over his head. Despite being warned by several senior drivers about his driving style and being told he was way over his head, he simply ignored their warnings. And then during qualifying, it happened. He lost control of his car, veered right and hit the wall and it completely disintegrated on impact. As for Smiley? The details are a bit too gruesome even for the DeathList so if you want to know you will have to look it up, but he was quite literally, turned into mincemeat. Even to this day, Smiley's fatal crash is considered one of the most violent in racing history.

Singer Halsey has been diagnosed with at least 4 different autoimmune conditions recently (POTS and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome being the most serious of these) and potentially has a 5th, she has also suffered from multiple bouts of Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions) and claims she has been sick for "most of her adult life", but that things have worsened since the birth of her son. She still claims her concert tour will go ahead, but let's see what happens. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/halsey-health-issues-tour-dates-1351498/

Yesterday, Italian F1 driver Michele Alboreto was killed in an accident while testing an Audi Le Mans Car 21 years ago. And on this day 13 years ago, Indy 500 racer Danny Kladis passed away and though he never found success in Indianapolis, he became notable for an unexpected reason later in his life, his longevity and status as Indy 500's oldest living racer at a point of time, having lived to the age of 92 at a time where most Indy drivers were lucky enough to have reached their 40's and 50's.

    The Dead of 2022

This thread is fine, all my MOH recipient related posts are here. Been a while since my previous update, nothing much has happened but WWII's only living recipient Woody Williams has slowed down quite a lot now after his fall in 2021, while Vietnam MOH recipients Doc Ballard and Barney Barnum have only recently become frail. In fact in the most recent Medal of Honor convention, only 7 out of 65 living attended, I might add that most of the active MOH recipients nowadays are Afghanistan/Iraq ones as well, so yeah they are starting to become a dwindling bunch.

I don't know about that. Though Kane seems to have been happy and at least had some quality of life towards the end, living in a cold nursing home/hospital room and requiring caregivers to help feed and bathe you and wipe your arse is not a situation I would want to be in and I certainly wouldn't wish it on my loved ones either, just saying.

German racing driver Rolf Stommelen died on this day 39 years ago, aged 39. Successful in both single seater and endurance racing, his career was marred by a lot of unfortunate circumstances. The most notable of these are a horrible crash in the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix in which his rear wing failed on his car, which then flew into the crowd, killing 5 spectators as well as Stommelen's own death in a racing accident during an IMSA race.

So today's driver death anniversary of the day "featured" is John McVitty, some NASCAR driver who died 66 years ago on this day in a racing accident. I say "featured" because there is literally nothing known about him other then he was killed in a racing accident. To make up for this. Today also marked 51 years since the death of Francois Duvalier, a former president of Haiti.
