According to the ITV Royal Correspondent, it was the doorman.
-
I don't think so. It seems to have taken most of the correspondents by surprise. EDIT: Looks like he had a procedure a decade ago, but by the looks of it, there hasn't been any major concerns since then.
-
Obviously I could be wrong, but given that he's left by car on previous occasions, I think it's a bad sign. Especially given that it was an emergency ambulance, and not a transport ambulance.
-
By the looks of things, Prince Philip will surpass two weeks in hospital with no hint of him leaving any time soon. Looking at where we are now, what do we expect to happen.

Its one of my favourite Wiki articles. Whenever I feel like I've done a bad job of something, I turn to this list and rest in the knowledge that people have made much bigger cock-ups.
-
Yep. It's a common practice. It's also common for them to be accidentally leaked. Common enough that there's a Wikipedia article for it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_premature_obituaries

Technically, we were both right

Most likely

The last time I heard of an embargo, it was royal family related. However, it was just some photos which Buckingham Palace had shared with the newspapers first on the basis they wouldn't be shared until the embargo was listed.
-
I'd forgotten about that. TBF, there wasn't much too it. Pretty much all he said was that Philip was "a lot better". Still keeping somewhat quiet about how he's doing (which is fair enough).
-
I just came here after having the same thought. I've not heard of any more news, and it doesn't look like there's been any other visitors, so... who knows.
-
I'm still somewhat unsure. It sounds like he's making some form of recovery at the moment, but as you've said, he could easily take a turn. If he continues with his recovery as is, then I could see him leaving the hospital alive. However, he looked like he was a stubbed toe away from turning to dust when he last left the hospital, and I reckon that if he takes any sort of turn in the opposite direction, then he's probably gonna snuff it.
-
Not quite. A close 6th.

Poor Liz
-
Well, there's very little doubt about that. You don't go in for 'observation' for over a week. It's clear he's in a worse state than we're being told publicly, but it's a question of how much worse...
-
I was wondering if it was some sort of of signal to the reporters.
-
I think there's something to be said for the lack of formal statement today. The last statement to come from Buckingham was one which stated that Philip would be staying in hospital over the weekend. However, the weekend has very much come and gone now. Obviously, William made a brief remark to journalists today, but you can't make many assumptions from being told that he's 'OK'. That could mean he's feeling fine and will be set to leave in a few days, or it could mean that he's slowly passing away with any pain being well managed by his doctors and nurses.
-
I'd forgotten about that report. It is a good point, but it means that either Charles has broken the Gov't guidance on visiting relatives in hospital (even if Philip asked him to), or Philip is in a worse state than we're being told about. I can imagine the former being true, but I'm still inclined to suspect it's the latter.
-
And this is why I'm quite sceptical about Prince William's remarks. If Philip really is 'OK', then why did Charles travel from Gloucester to London in order to visit his father. The two facts contradict each other.
-
Yeah. It no longer needs to be a black tie. Just a sombre colour, such as navy blue, or burgundy red. However, I reckon they'll go with black if it's possible, just in order to prevent another Sissons.
-
They wouldn't announce it this late. For example, if he has died within the last hour, it wouldn't be announced until 8am.

The guy is a regular royal contributor to Channel 7 in Australia, ABC in the US, and the Evening Standard in the UK. He's also set to release a book about Prince Philip's life. You don't get to that sort of position without knowing your stuff and having some good sources. In terms of reservations of the British press, I think it's more the media not wanting to say something which could royally bite them on the arse. Some journalists will likely have more precise info on Philip's condition, but don't want to risk saying too much and causing an unnecessary stir which might make reporting on them more difficult in the future (cough Nicholas Witchell cough).
-
Australian media reporting that he is in for more than just observation and rest. I know most have already come to this conclusion, but it's still somewhat significant that a major media outlet is willing to claim that he is "very unwell":
-
Yeah. If I was accused of being a nonce, I'd stay away from the cameras too.
