He has recorded over 20 albums and his most famous song is "Pedro Navaja", inspired by "Mack the Knife". In 1994 Rubén Blades returned to Panama to run for the presidency, he placed third, winning only 17% of the vote. In recent years, he is well-known for playing Daniel Salazar in the television series "Fear the Walking Dead".

Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée, Crown Princess of Sweden, Duchess of Västergötland and the firstborn child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, formally known as Crown Princess Victoria, is 45 today. Victoria will be Sweden's fourth female monarch and the first since 1720.

Antonio Ibáñez, Spanish actor, model and painter, has died aged 34. A year ago, he received a diagnosis of lymphoma. Patricia Reyes Spíndola, Mexican film, stage and television actress winner of four Ariel Awards (Mexico's equivalent to the Oscars), is 69 today. As an actress, she has also worked in famous Mexican telenovelas. Spíndola serves as a teacher in her own acting school. Most recently, she was Griselda Salazar in AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead". Spíndola is a breast cancer survivor.

Mavis Staples, American gospel and soul legend who was the lead vocalist of The Staple Singers, is 83 today. She is the last surviving original member of The Staple Singers. Mavis Staples has also released a series of albums as a solo artist. She revealed on later interviews that she received a marriage proposal from Bob Dylan. Mavis Staples was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.

David McCullough, the eminent American biographer, historian and novelist winner of two Francis Parkman Prizes, two National Book Awards and two Pulitzer Prizes, is 89 today. His book "John Adams" was the basis for the acclaimed HBO series.
