Ronald Colman, one of my favourite actors, one of Hollywood's golden era greatest but now seemingly not so well remembered stars, died from acute emphysema in Santa Barbara, California on this date in 1958. He was 67 years old. Colman, became a vastly popular star of silent films. His elegant accent and beautifully characteristic charming and modulated stage-trained voice, very important to the film industry, made him one of the most popular actors in the 30's. He would have been the perfect Max de Winter in Hitchcock's "Rebecca". A pity he declined the role... He said: "A prolonged future doesn't excite me. It would have to have a point". He was interred in the Santa Barbara Cemetery.

Have you ever tasted? Would you call that a suitable bedtime drink?

@An Fear Beag... You're not a lucky person... But... It's not bad. There's going to be a lot worse days than this.

Thank you for your new information, @TomTomTelekom. "Midnight Run" is a great comedy. My first memory of Charles Grodin is "The Couch Trip". Dan Aykroyd has escaped from a mental hospital and becomes a great radio talk show. Charles Grodin was a very popular psychiatrist. The great Walter Matthau also participated in the film. It's a minor comedy... it isn't a classic film... but it's a film that demands to be seen twice. Entertaining for people of all ages. Thanks again, @TomTomTelekom.

@Toast... I have the same problem... I tried thinking about baseball... and fall asleep on the couch.

American cinematographer Gordon Willis, ten days before his 83rd birthday, died of metastatic cancer on this date in 2014. Despite his reputation as one of the best and most influential cinematographers in the business, his iconoclastic ways were not fully appreciated until his influence on subsequent generations of cinematographers became undeniable. Willis, whose moody aesthetic and technique of using shadows earned him the nickname "The Prince of Darkness", is best known for his work on Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather films. He said: "I believe in the relativity of moviemaking, which includes a world of light and dark, big and small, high and low, good and evil".

What Are You Listening To Right Now?

A good choice... -
I like the way you think, @Boring Bob. But... You're a real optimist, aren't you? Sorry... I'm pessimistic about this. People... They seem to have had a rough time of it. I think... Maybe I'm wrong... Now... the majority of people want sex, drugs and rock and roll... even those who are married. Perhaps... I think I'm being coldly realist about the short term. Or... Maybe... You're a much better person that I am. You're welcome...

That's good to hear...

What an adventure! This makes my head hurt... Toast... you're a very patient person. Ebay... Don't count on me.

Tony Randall, the American actor, comedian and singer, died on this date in 2004. He was 84 years old. Randall, fondly remembered for his role as Felix Unger in a television adaptation of the 1965 play "The Odd Couple" by Neil Simon for which he won an Emmy Award, appeared in many films, including "Pillow Talk" (1959), "Lover Come Back" (1961) or "Send Me No Flowers" (1964). He said: "Marilyn Monroe was no fun to work with. She would report to work around 5:00 in the evening. You've been in make-up since 8:30 in the morning waiting for her". Tony Randall died in his sleep at NYU Medical Center of pneumonia that he had contracted following coronary bypass surgery. He was interred at Westchester Hills Cemetery in New York.

I hope you're wrong about Jeff Bridges, because I love that man. -
You haven't said much of anything lately... I miss you. Paul Bearer... are you OK?

Sammy Davis Jr., the highly iconic and popular actor, comedian, dancer and singer, died at his home in Beverly Hills, California, after a nine-month battle with throat cancer on this date in 1990. He was 64 years old. Sammy Davis Jr. was one of the greatest pop-culture icons of the 20th century. His nickname was "Mr. Show Business". Sammy Davis Jr. was a chain smoker (four packs of cigarettes a day). When he died, he was in debt. To pay for Sammy's funeral, most of his memorabilia was sold off. Sammy Davis Jr. was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. He was survived by his mother (who died at 95) and his grandmother (who died at 112).

This poor man needs a priest who administered him the last rites.

gcreptile... There are a lot of weirdos out there in the world.

You're right again... This is the rule (word for word by CaptainChorizo): *Some name's may appear like a gray area(ie Roz Patterson). Notable in her Native Country as a reporter and would easily get a QO with a plane crash or auto accident type death. However if none of her QO obits mention her journalistic career and is just an angle about her being a Cancer Mum then no points will be awarded. Joey Russ... the rule is very clear.

@theoldlady, Congratulations! You're the sole leader with 7 hits.

Thanks Perhaps and Grim Up North for the explanations... This is simply too complicated... It's a difficult choice... I guess I'll have to find my old math books.
-
CaptainChorizo... I have one doubt in my mind... This rule of Windy City Deadpool: * Cancer Mum's/Athlete's Wives(IE Tiffany Youngs) and other Famous For Being Ill Types will not be accepted even if they get a qualifying Obit. All the news said: "Maria Menounos' mother, Litsa, has died after battling brain cancer"... or... "Maria Menounos announced that her mother, Litsa, died on Sunday after a long battle with brain cancer"... Then... Is Litsa Menounos... the only exception to that rule? And... Why? Hugs.

Grumpy Cat , the legendary cat with a permanently frowny expression who has found fame as a meme and a YouTube sensation and whose real name was Tardar Sauce , died of an urinary tract infection on this date in 2019 at the age of 7. And suddenly... life will no longer be possible. Because... life is tough enough as it is, you know?
