    General Election 2024?

Midnight. After much wailing from Tories saying " you don't know the results yet". We've known the result for months. It's a question of how big now.

    General Election 2024?

One way. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that Lib Dems become the opposition now.

    That Portillo Moment

Johnny Mercer Plymouth Moor View (I know the Reform candidate- he ran a very good pub in Plymouth for years called the Old Friary- and he's a ok chap) but it's Labours to lose. Jacob Rees Mogg - North Somerset and Hanham Penny Mordant Portsmouth North

    General Election 2024?

Mercer was out yesterday in St Budeaux part of Moor View. You know, the part as close to Cornwall as you can get for a quick getaway. The plymouth end of the Tamar Bridge is here, and that's put up its prices again so that's a BIG issue but Mr Mercer hasn't said jack about it. He's utter toast. Of all the wards in his area the only Tory is in Eggbuckland and then by a handful of votes.

    General Election 2024?

As a football secretary, this plan would destroy more local football than anything else. It's the critical ages 16 to 18 when most lads stop the game, so to force them to do Rishis plan would loose thousands more from the game.

    That Portillo Moment

Well I'm booking leave for 5th July today. Locally losing Johnny Mercer will be brilliant - but Sheryl Murray in SE Cornwall is equally disliked.

The way it's going... I wouldn't be surprised if it was May.

This speech fringe Rishi is sheer utter rubbish. 20 points behind in the opinion polls, clinging to power like a stubborn skid mark on a pair of underpants... I'll make the education system great. Yes mate. You've had 15 years to do that...

    Curse Of The Eurovision

As a Eurovision fan currently in Greece on holiday the UK entry was met with almost stunned silence by the Greeks. It wasn't just the song which was poor, but the sexualisation of the staging. Greeks were literally shaking their heads. And here's the problem. We've got to get away from the idea that it has be shocking. All the songs which are good had hooks- Ireland, Croatia and to point Switzerland. The Croatian song has been everywhere here this week playing in the pubs, bars etc. If we have a song like in 2022 which is sung well, staged well we can do it.

Postal vote done for local and crime commissioner. Whilst it's Labour for Plymouth council (I'm in the most Labour ward anyway) I've tactical voted for the crime commissioner. As its the whole of Devon and Cornwall - in reality only currently 4 areas would be Labour foothold (both Plymouth constituency, Exeter and Falmouth/Camborne area). So I've gone Lib Dem as I think they'll do pretty well in most of Cornwall and Devon.

Bit late to this conversation, but yes Portillo was seen as the next leader by most political commentators- on YouTube you can watch the election result and there's a really interesting discussion at the beginning between Portillo and Paxman where it's clear Labour will get a landslide and that Major wouldn't survive. Taxman really presses Portillo on if he expected to be the next leader - the answer he dodges but clearly Portillo is thinking about it. Of course - it all goes belly for Portillo and again after his result he's interviewed. Now he's relaxed, gloves are off and he says "well at least no more questions about becoming leader". We got Hague, a guy I like but was never PM material and it's important to bear in mind the next leader is very unlikely to be PM as the pendulum has swung for at least 2 elections IMHO. Mordant no chance of survival but I want to be up for the Rees- Mogg - that will be the moment hopefully!!!
  14. Tories are going to be seriously wiped out in May local elections - cue blood and thunder and panic from back benchers to remove Rishi. He'll call a snap election I think to stop that and therefore 27th June seems most likely or at a push 20th June.

Don't think Laura K will have John O'Farrell back on her "Loose Women Politics" show anytime soon. He was spot on. Wars all over the place and she's pressing on Angela Rayner! Pathetic.

Am i missing the point with this Angela story? It screams of any last ditch attempt to discredit her. Meanwhile in the real world, I see diesel is up in price again this week, food is increasing and I've a toothache with no real NHS dentist within a 100 miles. But for £1500 - the Tories want to discredit an MP. Get real.

Haha brilliant Well we've all been honeytrapped, forced to send nudes, and share 12 colleagues details. Haven't we?? Tories are firmly in the death spiral down the plughole. I see even Johnny Mercer retreating to the last posh neighbourhood this weekend saying "it's not that bad out here honest". He's toast come the GE in Moor View.
  20. Knowing local government, May has to be off the table now. There's little doubt down here in SW, they are going to get destroyed but Devon has no election until next year. Plymouth elects a third but that's not going to change. If its bad, June could be a cut and run so 27th June could be the to watch.

    Disc Jockeys

Tough listening to Pick of the Pops yesterday with Gary Davies nearly cracking during the introductory part. Old Radio 1 mates and obviously good friends. But - Gary is the right fit for the show, unlike Steve. The chart rundown on both occasions were spot on (with Steve it was always a fear he'd run out of music bed!)

The 1994 Matthew Bannister era. Wasn't the best breakfast show.
