Kanerva sent his last tweet saying that his "sick leave will continue for now" a day ago. He was very ill but that must've been sudden.

Indeed. I figured he would be a goner this year after the recent news about his sick leave, but I'm surprised how quickly he went.

Doesn't seem like a reliable website or reliable news - there is no hockey insider reporting his death, no Twitter chatter that he has passed away.

While he's no doubt very ill, I'm very suspicious of a random blog announcing someone's death based on random Twitter people's claims, so. Going to wait for a proper report on this one.

Apologies, you're indeed correct. I should've checked the source more carefully. I'll amend my original post.

No BBC obit so far. She might be one of the first DL successes not to get one. I actually neglected to choose her as I didn’t think she’d get a BBC obit. Arguably not famous enough in the UK.

Herman Wouk and Bill Gates Sr. didn't get BBC obits either.

I didn't think she was famous enough in the UK either and was surprised the committee picked her. Though obviously it turned out to be a good decision.

Pentti Poutanen is the oldest one, 100 in August. In office 1970-1987.

There are currently nine of them aged 95+, most of them very minor names (including Poutanen) but there are also a few (slightly) interesting ones: Heikki Hasu, 1952 Oslo Olympics 4x10km relay gold medalist, Jutta Zilliacus, journalist (who was also sued by Vladimir Zhirinovsky in the 90s) and Ele Alenius, socialist who opposed the Soviet Union and the invasion of Czechoslovakia and now considers both capitalism and socialism outdated.
