Announced to compose Hirokazu Kore-eda's new movie Monster. Comes out in June, so I guess he's got something to live for.

Yeah, it's true. Here's the funeral home listing.

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

The guy who made the Bowey surname page listed both of them at the same time. I guess he wasn't curious about there being two English wrestlers with similar names at the same Olympics...

    Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Bowey https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Bowey Heh, looks like he has two Wikipedia pages (created in 2018 and 2019). The second one got his DOB right, it appears, though.

    Hollywood Possibilities

I don't figure he'll ever make the DL but I would expect that anyone in the UK with a passing interest in older Hollywood stuff would know who Holliman is. After all he's one of the few living guys from a number of big movies (Forbidden Planet, Giant, The Big Combo, The Sons of Katie Elder, The Rainmaker, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, etc.), along with the TV stuff already mentioned above.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Nice, a great opportunity to steal all the jokes everyone else has already made about "Elton Jhon" and the King of England.

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

Why? He was liking posts well after that awful article says he "died", including one as recently as yesterday. And I highly doubt the "dear friend" in the article even knew him, or was intending to kill him off. He's a Georgetown University employee whose Facebook appears to largely be viral Internet posts with his commentary.

No, just one of those auto-generated "obituaries". He liked a tweet less than 24 hours ago.

    Norman Lear

Glad he was picked. Would have expected him to go unselected because he isn't much of a presence in the UK, but he's probably the most famous living centenarian and an A-lister over here. Not sure he'll die this year, though; he seems to be doing incredible for his age (but, y'know, 100, never know). Also, is it just me or is the link to his thread on the list busted?

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

Yeah, I think an improvement on last year is pretty feasible. Lot of people on here who surely can't have much longer left (Ackland, Barker, Bennett, the Carters, Delors, Harris, Kissinger, Kundera, Le Pen, Rollins, Tebbit, Wagner), along with a few who are generically old enough to realistically bite it (Baxter, Gall, Laine, Lear, Newhart) and younger ill ones (Musharraf, Nolan, Sakamoto, Taylor). Sure, the additions like Dickinson over Glynis Johns/Eva Marie Saint and Alda, Duvall, and Linden are a little bizarre, and dropping guys like Kaczynski/Whale and failing to add Roberta Flack are headscratchers, but the list we have mostly plays it pretty safe. (And hell, maybe one of the four I just mention will bite the dust. Don't think many thought Loretta Lynn was an especially good pick this time last year.)

    Ryuichi Sakamoto

Agreed. He has an Oscar and a Grammy and he has considerable influence outside of his home country; don't think you can make much of an argument for the others.

    Alan Alda

Wasn't posted here, but he gave an update on his Parkinson's in October where he basically said he feels good and doesn't have many significant issues. Surprised to see him on the list. I reckon he'll be the type to decline gradually, but he's still doing a weekly podcast as has been mentioned many times and looks fine so I don't imagine that'll be in the near future.

    2. Dick Van Dyke

Honestly respect the chutzpah of keeping him at #1 after everyone complained about it.

    Hal Linden

I'll repeat myself: as far as actors in their early 90s go, this seems like a weak pick. Starred in an off-Broadway play last summer, still can walk without aid, travels frequently and clearly isn't senile either. I feel like he'll make 2024.

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

Other thoughts: Pleased to see Lear made the list, would have thought he isn't enough of a UK name. Alda and Dickinson seem like strange additions. I'm a little skeptical about Hurd and Kaczynski being dropped. Mildly surprised they kept Faithfull and Cheney. Will probably do a longer review of the list later because I simply like writing lists, but at the moment I'm feeling a similar finish to this year. ~15 or so.

    Thoughts on 2023 Deathlist

Linden starred in an off-Broadway play this summer and still does plenty of long interviews (September/October). If someone had said in 2013 Betty White was likely going to die after she'd spent a year doing all that, they would rightfully be side-eyed.
